20 years ago he came across this Farmhouse in the Charente and fell in love with it and its surroundings. The house was in it's original state and 3 years was spent restoring it with modern additions.

Very spacious, very peaceful , great for multiple families.

Very big authentic French farm house. Eleven of us fitted in with ease with 5 beds still unoccupied. Large swimming pool which was kept lovely and clean by the friendly English pool man. Fresh batons of bread came to the village every morning in a little white van that tooted its arrival. The river Charente was just a cross a little lane and easy to launch the little rowing boat kept in the barn. All the bedrooms were large some very large and plenty of bathrooms for everyone. Would definitely go again if I had a large family party or two different families.

Great, peaceful place

A superb gite in a beautiful part of France. Stayed here with family for two weeks and could barely fault the place.

Well spread out rooms with good facilities and enough space for all. We were a collection of six adults and six children in all and had no issues.

The pool was one of the highlights. Away from the house and gated and a great size for all to swim or sit round.

Although it is in the middle of nowhere, this is a plus and not a negative. Located in a small village you genuinely feel like you have had a break from it all but a car is needed. There are some great towns near by and do get out on the bike. Some gorgeous scenery and do please get the boat out and go for a row. Superb fun.

All in all, a great gite in a great location. We have had some fab memories in France and when we look to our next large family holiday, we will think of this place again.

Special interest holidays:

The beautiful River Charente is situated some 50 metres from the house. A small rowing boat is provided for your use and entertainment. Fishing is available with the appropriate permits from the local post office.


Coastal sandy beaches of La Rochelle and Royan are approx 90 mins drive.


Nearest airports are Angouleme (35 mins), Poitiers (1hr), La Rochelle (90 mins), Bordeaux (2hrs).

Eurostar/TGV - St Pancras to Angouleme via Lille or Paris (approx 7hrs).

Car - St Malo (4.5 hrs), Caen (5hrs), Calais (7.5hrs).

Distance from house to Aigre (5km), Mansle (7km), Angouleme (30km), Cognac (35km).

Directions:- Poitiers N10 Angouleme. Junction D18 Mansle. Exit Mansle, over bridge. Traffic lights-right D739 Luxe. ½ mile left D69 Cellettes. Through village, sharp left & right. Follow road to Villognon. Junction-left D32 sign Amberac 4km. Through village, Holy cross, turn right D69 Amberac 3km. Les Granges sharp right. Follow road into Amberac. Over bridge left & left. Pass church-left round corner. Blue gates on right for rear courtyard, main house take gravel driveway on right.

Further Details:

The farmhouse is located in the heart of the picturesque village of Amberac, close to its 12th Century stone church. A bread van visits daily plus a meat and fish van weekly. The larger town of Aigre (5km) has two supermarkets, bank, chemist, boulangerie, restaurants, cafe, tourist information office and weekly market. There is an excellent Michelin rated restaurant, Cheval Blanc Tel 0033 545399475 which is highly recommended for both lunch and dinner (5km). The lively and chic town of Angouleme offers good range of bars, cafes, restaurants, boutiques and a classic french daily market.

A deposit of 25% will confirm your booking. The deposit is non refundable unless we can relet the property. The remaining balance is due 8 weeks prior to the rental period at which time a security deposit of £200 is also required. This will be returned after departure inspection and not withstanding any damage.

Changeover Day:
Saturday - arrival after 1600 hrs - departure 1000 hrs.

25% deposit to secure booking then balance and £200 security deposit 8 weeks before departure

Owner's Cancellation Policy

100% refund if canceled at least 90 days before arrival date.

Notes on accommodation: The property is a very spacious well equipped private home ideal for groups, families and friends. We kindly ask for our guests to leave it clean and tidy on departure. Sorry no smoking or pets. Outside: 10m x 5m private pool with split level sun terrace with views across the surrounding fields, ample sun loungers, parasols, garden table and chairs. Outside covered dining area with barbecue, table and chairs. Badminton court (with equipment). Pentanque. The house is gated, the pool is fenced and lockable. Utility Room: Laundry room with washing machine, sink, iron/ironing board and clothes airer. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are included (not pool/beach towels). The property will be cleaned for your arrival. If you require fresh towels and bedlinen on a weekly basis please advise prior to your arrival. Other: Separate games room situated in barn with 3 bicycles, table tennis and darts.
