Character Cottage in Lorgues, Var, Provence, France - Privacy, Calm and Relaxation and Yet Less than an Hour Drive from the Busy Cote d'Azur

La Petite Bourgade, a charming stone house with its own drive and wrought iron gate to the Bourgade Square is set in the grounds (1 acre) of the owners main residence. It enjoys privacy, calm in a landscaped garden with mature trees and shrubs offering natural shade. A tantalizing tiled 'infinity' pool and pool deck are shared with the owners in season (May until September). It offers views of the Collegiale bell tower that can be admired especially at night. Lorgues is a picturesque medieval village situated in the heart of the vine and olive region of the Maures hillside. The imposing three hundred year old St Martin Collegiale as well as large plane trees lined avenues and fountains are the setting for a thriving typical Provencal market every Tuesday morning. The lively village with cafes, renowned restaurants (one of them enjoys a Michelin star) shops, banks to meet all your daily needs is only an hour from Nice, 45 minutes from the coast and the Verdon Canyon.

About The Owner

After 37 years spent living and working in Surrey we retired in the beautiful and picturesque village of Lorgues.

We arrived in Weybridge in 1967 lured by the then 'new' oil industry and after 30 years spent selling pipes, fittings, valves we started an Art Gallery in 1997 realising a life long ambition.

We exhibited French oil paintings at most venues (Olympia, Earls Court Claridges in London, Chester, Ascot, NEC Birmingham, Harrogate, Glasgow, Gleneagles etc...) and became members of BADA and LAPADA.

The family, three children and four grandchildren currently live in the UK.

For years, we owned a cottage in la Motte (25km from Lorgues) that we rented on a regular basis to British guests. (testimonies and references are available).

The Owner purchased this cottage in 2003

Why The Owner chose Lorgues

For years we owned a summer country cottage in La Motte (25km from Lorgues) and enjoyed it together with the rest of the family, our three children and four grand children.

The region with its diversity (beaches, resorts, the Verdon Canyon) never ceased to enchant us.

We also appreciated the easy access from the UK either flying (with three airports and many low cost airlines to chose from) or motoring (door to door motorway)'

When we retired in 2003 the choice was made for us...

All the reasons that made us buy the property six years ago are there for you to enjoy...

The region is rich in history, the landscapes are wonderful and the climate is enjoyable all year round...

Although quite small 'La Petite Bourgade' offers a beautiful and secluded garden, a tantalizing 'infinity' pool and all in the middle of the typical and attractive village of Lorgues.


Car: not necessary


The coast is only 45 min away. There are many beaches and resorts such as Cannes, St Tropez, Ste Maxime. Water sports such as sailing, boating, jet skis, scuba diving are easily available.


Nice airport 1 hour, Hyeres airport 1 hour, Marseille airport 1.5 hours, train station (Les Arcs) 15 min - regular and frequent train services to Cannes, Nice, Monaco. Access to TGV (high speed) trains to Avignon, Lyon, Paris. A8 motorway 15 min.


Verdon Canyon 1 hour. Nice 1 hour. Monaco 2.5 hours...(or more in the Summer!)

Notes on accommodation: We regret the fact that due to its location and ground configuration la 'Petite Bourgade' is not suitable for children. By courtesy to other occupiers 'La Petite Bourgade' is a non-smoking area and again for the same reason pets are not allowed. Outside: Your private secluded courtyard is facing south. The grounds (1 acre) the 'infinity' pool and pool deck are shared with the owners. The pool deck is furnished with sunbeds and side tables. Secured and private off-street car park. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All linen provided with the exclusion of pool/beach towel. Other: Sunny terrace furnished with wrought iron table and chairs - sun umbrella. Private off-street parking and access to village through wrought iron gate.

The Best Holiday spot you could find

One word sums it up- Fantastic! From the moment we arrived and were welcomed by our hosts, Jacqueline and Jean-Claude we were made to feel welcome and that we were valued guests. Never intrusive our hosts were always there to offer advice, local tips and to ensure our stay was memorable.

The cottage was seriously cute, comfortable and beautifully appointed, as is the rest of the property. As temp was in mid 30s we made full use of the pool and Cabana every day, the Pétanque and a walk through the gate at the back of the property into Lorgues town each day was a treat- especially when coming back with fresh croissants to the local Partissiere! Not to be missed was the Tuesday market and the shopping in this beautiful medieval town. Everything you needed was at your fingertips. A beautiful property in a stunning place with great hosts. What more could one want for 2 couples wanting a good rest and break. You could stay here without a car as train/ bus is available. I am sure the hosts would happily provide you with guidance regarding transport

This little stone cottage is gorgeous with enough room for 4 adults sharing for a week. The cottage is well appointed and well maintained. Just a short walk out the back gate and you are in the middle of the cute old village of Lorgues with shops and supermarkets within easy access.

Doing the walking tour of Lorgues is beautiful ad. The huge plane Rees quite spectacular.

Jean-Claude and Jacqueline are superb hosts who are unobtrusive but always available with help and advice when required.

The pool and pool house were well utilised during our stay with the temperatures regularly in the mid 30s.

Thank you Jean-Claude and Jacqui for a fantastic holiday. We Kiwis loved it.

Booking Notes:
We require a 30% non refundable deposit with booking - this can be paid in the UK in Sterling at the the tourist exchange rate as quoted in UK daily newspapers at the time of booking. The balance to be paid on arrival in Euros. A refundable Security deposit of 150.00 Euros will be required on arrival.

Changeover Day:
Saturday is our preferred change-over day.
Arrival after 4.00pm - Departure before 10.00am

Notes on prices:
All quoted rates are for two person occupancy. An extra charge of 30.00 Euros per night will apply for the use of the second bedroom.
