Born in Norfolk UK, i met my Husband in Australia and after getting Married in 2002 we moved to Madeira where my husband is originally from. We really enjoy living on this beautiful little Island. Our passion is renovating properties, turning something old and run down into a new stylish home to rent or sell!
Louise Allison purchased this apartment in 2011
The Docks just spoke to us when we first found it in 2008. A ruin that was literally crumbling away & desperately in need of some love & attention. At one time it was the tallest stone house in Madeira & one of the first houses to be built in this little harbour village. Finally after a few years we returned to Paul do Mar & managed to locate the owner, some how it was meant to be ours, it has been a wonderful project restoring the house & bringing it back to life again.
Every room in this property has amazing ocean views, it´s light, spacious & has so much character. The location next to the small harbour & beach is really unique & the scenery is beathtaking. The benefits of staying in an area like this mean you are close to nature, walking & really getting to experience what Madeira is all about. it´s also a great base to explore the rest of the Island or just chill out on the terrace by the sea. We have really focussed on things like, comfy beds & sofas, quality fixtures & fittings & fantastic showers with lots of hot water after all those Levada walks! Our philosophy is that we do not expect our guests to stay anywhere that we wouldn´t really enjoy ourselves!

Very dissapointed this time. Cockroaches a frequent unwelcome guest. Power cuts due to faulty wiring and very poor responses from an uncaring owner.
The flat was very spacious, tastefully decorated and clean and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Being a ground-floor flat, we didn't feel we should sleep with the windows open as they were French windows, so it was really handy to have the air conditioning available. We appreciated the information folder with suggestions of where to go and what to see and also the various guide books and leaflets provided by our hosts. It was lovely to hear the waves pounding on the pebble beach and see the spray fly over the harbour wall. We enjoyed watching the locals mend their nets down by the harbour and were surprised to find that most of them spoke perfect English! The walking trail which starts behind the flat is very dramatic and offers wonderful views as you haul up the steep and rocky cliff path, once used by locals to access the village. Paul do Mar is quiet and unspoiled yet connected by a tunnel to the neighbouring village and the main road around the island is not far away. My Dad, though 91, is pretty active still and managed the steps up to the flat entrance - maybe a hand rail would be useful for older guests! Louise was very helpful throughout the booking process and during our stay - you've done a wonderful job converting the Docks. Many thanks.
I almost don't want to provide a review as want to keep this gem as secret for when I want to stay again!
The location is wonderful - spent many hours on the terrace sitting watching the waves roll in and the wind surfers.
And the apartment is the best equipped holiday apartment I've ever stayed in. Really nicely laid out and finished.
A great location also for getting around the island.
Would highly recommend it!
We arrived at the Docks after having stayed a couple of nights at Louise's other beautiful apartment in Funchal. The stay was fantastic from start to finish. When I initially saw these photos on Owners Direct I thought perhaps the photos were a bit too good to be true - but I was proven wrong within seconds of arriving at Paul do Mar. The place is absolutely stunning. The setting is perfect, right at the end of the village with lovely sea views and waking up to the sounds of the waves - perfection! The place is really well done out - extremely high quality and the perfect place for a relaxing holiday.
If you are staying for more than a few days at Paul do Mar you will definitely need a car to go off and explore the island - there are plenty of guides provided by Louise and tips for places to go!! We discovered a couple of lovely bars at the very far end of the village on the sea front - one of which does some amazing steaks and fresh fish!! Lovely place and definitely a treasure for anyone wanting a bit of luxury!! Thanks so much Louise!!
bestimmt mal wieder. Vielen Dank.
It was the first time we were staying at Madeira. We choose the apartment due to the great references and we were suprised what amazing apartment we chose. The apartment is located near the harbor of the beautiful village Paul do Mar. The facilities of the apartment were luxurious. We were sleeping while listening the sound of the Atlantic Ocean. By crossing the street you can go swimming or jumping into the ocean at the harbor. We can highly recommend this lovely apartment. If we are planning to visit Madeira again, We would take the same apartment, because the atmosphere at this place was quite amazing. It is a great location to discover the island (e.g. for hiking tours, road trips or piscinas naturalis). Thanks for getting the possibility to stay there. Best regards, Tim
Paul do Mar is on the south west coast, famous for it´s year round warm sunny climate & beautiful sunsets it is located at the foot of the cliffs, this unique landscape surrounded by banana plantations & quaint little streets has plenty to explore & at one time you could only get there by boat, today thanks to the new roads it can be easily accessed & is just a short drive from the villages of Jardim do Mar & Calheta. This Historical house has uninterrupted views of the ocean & is only a few steps from the beach & harbour where it´s safe to swim in the sea. There is a Levada walk that starts just around the corner & takes you up along the original paths to the village of Prazers, the views are breathtaking! You can also walk for several km along the ocean front, admire the waves & watch the surfers! There´s a handful of cafés, restaurants, a small grocery store, a bank & in nearby Calheta there is a sandy beach & Marina, you can go Game fishing, dolphin & whale watching or visit Casa das Mudas art gallery along with more restaurants and a supermarket. This area offers fantastic scenery, nature, walking & generally getting away from it all & it´s a great winter escape too for some warm sunny relaxation by the sea. Access to the main roads is just a short drive so you can still be in Funchal within half an hour by car & explore the rest that Madeira has to offer.
