South Ham Barn is a converted wagon house in a peaceful rural location. It is conveniently located for many attractions. The area is ideal for cycling, walking, canoeing and fishing. Footpaths to other villages lead directly from the property. A private heated indoor pool was completed in December 2009. The property is situated near the owners old thatched farmhouse and parking is well off the road. Home-reared lamb and pork, home-made bread and eggs are usually available. No smoking.
We moved to South Ham Farm from another house in Muchelney in 1997 because of its peaceful location and surrounding land.
South Ham Barn was converted into a single dwelling from a wagon-house. We have a flock of sheep, 2 horses,a few hens and sometimes pigs. Our 3 children have left home and we retired from medical practice in 2008.
In December 2009, a heated indoor swimming pool was completed. It is available for the exclusive use of guests for at least 10 hours per day, and at other times by agreement.
Muchelney Ham is a very beautiful place and we feel privileged to live here.
P& E Nightingale purchased this barn in 1997
South Ham Farm is located at the edge of Muchelney Ham near the ancient village of Muchelney on the Somerset Levels an area of outstanding beauty and character. Having lived in the village for 20 years, we did not want to leave it so were very happy to move down the road when this property became available. The farm land attached has allowed us to pursue our interest in breeding sheep and keeping horses.
Our peaceful location and heated indoor swimming pool make it an ideal holiday destination for everyone. We are ideally located for walking, cycling and canoeing from the garden. Golf and fishing are available in adjacent villages. Cheddar Gorge, Glastonbury and many excellent gardens are nearby.
'Have enjoyed a lovely week. Very peaceful. The cottage is very well equipped-especially liked the pool.'
'A wonderful and relaxing retreat-thanks to you both. The cottage is picturesque, comfortable and exactly.....'
'The cottage was spotless! Wonderful setting for our holiday. We have enjoyed many walks and the swimming pool is a real bonus. The dogs were made extremely welcome and have had the time of their lives. Hoping to visit again soon.'
A great retreat. Swimming pool is excellent and well maintained. We were presented with a cake and a freshly baked loaf on arrival and fridge was already stocked with essentials. A good supply of logs, coal and kindle was provided which lasted the whole week. Property is well furnished throughout.
Had a wonderful week with our family in this very peaceful location. Elizabeth and Peter were very welcoming despite being very busy with lambing! Cottage is very well equipped and the essentials supplied, milk butter cake etc were a bonus. Found the two lounges very useful and the bedrooms comfortable . Used additional heating , log burner and electric fires/ radiators as it was chilly at times but we didn't need the full allowance of £35 . Pool area has been well designed with shower , toilet etc and was well used by us. Suited our needs perfectly and would definitely consider staying again .
We had a fantastic time staying in South Ham Barn this December. We visited as a family looking to spend a quiet week away and we got exactly what we hoped for. Relaxing by the fire, playing board games and swimming in the pool.
The property was quite cold when we arrived on a cold winter night but once it had warmed up by the next morning it remained lovely for the rest of the week.
The pool area is fully heated so we didn't get a chill while finishing up after a swim. If anything it was too hot as we found we got quite sweaty putting our clothes back on!
The villages in the area are beautiful, particularly Langport which had Christmas decorations throughout and a Christmas fair while we were staying.
We would definitely be tempted to visit again if we were looking for similar criteria another year!
The cottage was beautiful and perfect for our group. Elizabeth was very welcoming and did not mind us coming back at the crack of dawn from our Halloween party. The cottage is easy to find although very remote this was not a problem when ordering taxis or going to shops. Next time we will make sure to use the pool!
Finding it was a little bit of a challenge. I couldn't seem to get the address, post code etc; from the web site and the name of the property, only a property ref. The accommodation though was good. We were able to buy fresh produce from the farm which was very nice.
My family and I have just returned from a lovely 5 day break at the barn. The hosts Peter & Liz are lovely ...and so too are the dogs, especially Vas who is the friendliest dog ever! The barn is lovely and clean, bright yet cosy. We enjoyed sitting in the garden with our drinks having a good old chat around the picnic table in the sunshine. George & Harry loved the swimming pool and George even learned to float on his back! My parents enjoyed exploring the churches and country pubs! We wished we had booked longer than 5 days, the time went so fast. We have already made plans to return next year and I have been recommending the barn to family & friends.
