Cottage in La Seurie, Nr. Mouilleron Saint Germain and La Chataigneraie, Vendee
About Bob hawkes
Having spent many years holidaying in France we decided to buy the cottage in 2005 - it was in good condition and habitable from the outset. Over the years we have worked to make it more comfortable and continue to do so. We have been sharing the experiece with others for some years. We live in a small village in Buckinghamshire and have three children all at whi have now flown the nest. Despite working on the cottage we have had some very enjoyable holidays in the area. We hope you enjoy your stay. Cathy and Bob.

Why Bob hawkes chose Mouilleron-Saint-Germain
We bought this property in 2005 mainly for the location. It is in a small hamlet far from the madding crowd! At just 1km away Mouillerons en Pareds is the nearest place for drinks and meals out and we eat there regularly. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and there are many recommendations for visits without spending a great deal of money eg Vouvant superb views and walks, Mervent take a rest in the lakeside bar whilst the children take to the pedalos. Within 40 mins to an hour is the Coast line - in most places very much unspoilt. However La Tranche sur Mer and La Faute sur Mer do offer more traditional lines of shops and restaurants, but in a very conservative French way. As they say 'What's not to like?'
What makes this Cottage unique
The cottage is located at the foot of a hill below a line of windmills, they had seen better days but have been restored and the 'views from the top' are stunning and there are plenty of walks so no need to spend a week in the car. We often walk into town via the Millers path, a 30 minutes scenic route which avoids arguments as to who should drive! We are fortunate enough to have two friendly English people, resident in France, overseeing the property for us. Wendy and John will make sure that the house is ready for you and in the unlikely event of any problems will provide a swift resolution. The cottage itself has a very large split level living area; at the lower level the lounge, intermediate the kitchen and stairs and upper a dining room with patio doors and electric shutters.

Lovely peaceful place to stay
This cottage is in a lovely rural part of the Vendee in France. It is perfect for a peaceful getaway. The weather was glorious while we were there and the house has a sunny patio at the back for barbeques. There is a little town nearby which has a baker and it is 15 minutes from Chataigneraie which has an excellent SuperU supermarket. There are good walks in the immediate neighbourhood. There are also interesting places to visit nearby such as the Haras (pedigree horse stud) at La Roche sur Yon and the boats in the 'Green Venice' area.
Lovely cottage, clean and tidy.
We had a nice week in France, especially the 2 day visit to Pay du Fou. The cottage was clean and well looked after, lots of space, comfy beds. The only comment we would make is that some of the information in the booklet provided is out of date, twice we went to French markets that were no longer on the days stated. Some other information provided was also incorrect, i.e rubbish collection, no bike. No leaflets or information from other visitors available, we always like to read recommendations from others. However the cottage was good value for money, the information and communication by the owners was excellent prior to the visit how to find the property, key, contacts during our stay etc and we enjoyed a peaceful week away.
The nearest coast is approximately one hours drive away. The coastal areas are mainly unspoiled and provide miles of sandy beaches. The small coastal towns are full of character offering a variety of typically French restaurants and shops. Markets days are many and varied details are provided in the cottage information booklet.
