Holiday Home in Heybrook Bay, Wembury, South Devon, England - Superb Hill Top Position With Private Garden and Ample Parking

Merrivale is situated in the south west corner of the South Hams on the Devon/Cornwall border and enjoys uninterrupted panoramic sea views from its superb hill top position in the coastal village of Heybrook Bay within the parish of Wembury, an area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB). The location is perfect for couples or family holidays, walking the coastal paths, exploring the nearby beaches or simply relaxing in the garden or on the terraces soaking up the sun and watching the many boats and species of birds.

Merrivale is spacious and modern with most rooms having sea views. Three good sized bedrooms on the ground floor with three bathrooms and master bedroom and bathroom upstairs with balcony and stunning sea views. Each of the bedrooms has a bath/shower room either en-suite or adjacent. There is a large living room with log burner and Sky TV, a spacious well equipped kitchen, which opens into a large dining room with spiral stairs down to the games room. There is a balcony at the front of the dining room and large terrace in front of the lounge overlooking the sea, so that you can relax inside and outside.

Merrivale has gas fired central heating throughout with triple glazing to most of the windows and doors to provide a cosy feel when the south westerlies are blowing.

A lower terrace allows guests to sunbath in peace sheltered from the house.

The games room has a comfy sitting area with pool table, table football and air hockey, as well as a range of board games and jigsaws for all ages. There is another patio in front of the games room with bistro table.

To the east side there is another terrace, which is ideal for enjoying the morning sun with coffee and croissants whilst gazing over to the Mewstone.

There is a washing line, as well as an airer (clothes horse) indoors along with washing machine and tumble drier for guests use.

The internal hall acts as a study area and with WiFi for guests use.

There is ample parking for multiple cars and there is just one step up into the entrance porch from the gravel drive.

I live in Birmingham with my wife Sarah and daughter Hannah, whilst our son Josh is having fun and working hard as a student in London. Our hearts are by the sea, which is why we love Merrivale and the peace of Heybrook Bay.

We get a lot of pleasure knowing that others can enjoy the peace and tranquility that Merrivale offers. The sea air is very therapeutic and blows away the pressures of busy lives.

Why Richard Lait chose Plymouth

We fell in love with the fabulous uninterrupted sea view and peaceful location.

Merrivale is a beautifully spacious home and its location is convenient to explore both Devon and Cornwall with close proximity to the historic Barbican and Plymouth Hoe, as well as Dartmoor National Park.

This is the undiscovered part of the south coast between Salcombe and Looe, so why not come and discover it?

When we are ready for a slower pace of life, this is where we intend to retreat to live.

What makes this bungalow unique

We enjoy the sea, peace and quiet, whilst being close to fabulous beaches, the rugged wilderness of Dartmoor national park and the city life of Plymouth, with its maritime history.

In the summer months we enjoy walking the coastal path to Wembury and on to Newton Ferrers or Noss Mayo to enjoy a pub lunch overlooking the River Yealm. Just don't miss the last ferry as it is a long walk back!

Sitting on one of the many terraces or balconies watching the boats on a shimmering sea with a cup of tea and a home made scone loaded with jam and clotted cream is a perfect holiday treat.

Of course a glass of chilled wine watching the sunset over Cornwall is another holiday treat to be enjoyed.

Notes on accommodation: There is gas central heating throughout and a log burner in the lounge. Suitable for children (cot and high chair available by request), the elderly and the disabled with assistance. For the comfort of all guests we have a non smoking policy in the house. Sorry no pets. An Ofsted registered child minder available for babysitting by prior arrangement and payable locally. There is a garage at the property but this is not available for use. Basic cleaning materials such as washing up liquid and some dish washer/washing machine tablets. Welcome pack includes Devon cream tea, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, milk and sugar/sweeteners, as well as a bottle of wine in the drinks cooler. There is a games room with comfy chairs, selection of board games, 6' pool table, mini table football and mini air hockey, as well as a bistro table and chairs. All bedrooms have a TV and DVD player with Sky TV in the lounge, kitchen and upstairs master bedroom. Outside: A great feature of Merrivale is the attractive garden laid mainly to lawn with various seating areas, which provide a super opportunity to enjoy uninterrupted panoramic sea views spanning the Mewstone to the south east, the Eddystone Lighthouse straight ahead and across Plymouth Sound to Rame Head, Cornwall to the south west. The garden encompasses many different seating areas and is secure for young children to explore. The decking area outside the conservatory has a large table, parasol and chairs for dining. There is ample car parking. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Duvets, pillows, bedlinen, towels (not beach towels), tea towels included for each week of your stay. Laundry of bedlinen, bath and tea towels, as well as changeover clean included. Other: Dining room: dining table seats 8-10, dresser, sliding doors leading to front balcony and terrace with bistro table and chairs. Chairs for inside/outside use to sit and enjoy the sea view. Stairs to games room Wifi, games, jigsaws and DVD's for guests

Beautiful property, fabulous views, lives up to expectations

This was our second visit to Merrivale and it was just as good as last year if not better. We loved sitting on the terrace and watching the ships and the sunsets, the birds and the rabbits. It feels like home and we are grateful to Richard and Sarah for sharing it with us. Sue and Karen do a great job of making it look welcoming on arrival. We will return....

exceeded our expectations

rented house for family and grandparents to stay as our daughter was getting married at the nearby Wembury church. The location is stunning with great views in many directions. The house was great for entertaining as many family and friends were down for the wedding. Everyones initial reaction is WOW. Some of them are considering renting it themselves. Felt home from home rather than a rental. The photos do not do it justice. Richard and Sarah were very helpful with clear directions.We had a lovely cream tea and bottle of "Merrivale" wine on arrival. Cant recommend highly enough. Handy hint if you are using sains or tesco home delivery you will need to forward directions to them

Our 5th or 6th stay here, and never disappoints! The owners strive to make sure guests are made to feel totally at home, upgrading equipment etc. This time, a big green egg bbq! Granted we didn't use it, but how many rental villas would have one of these? Book in advance, and you'll never regret staying at Merrivale!

Wonderful house & wonderful holiday

We have just returned home from a fantastic weeks holiday in this amazing house which has stunning views. I can not recommend this house highly enough, it has absolutely everything to keep all ages happy we were a family of eight adults and a 2yr Old and we have all come away hoping we can visit again one day. Thank you Richard & Sarah for a wonderful holiday.

Beautiful spot , clean and spacious property

We spend an extended family Christmas here and it was an ideal house - big enough to give people space but cosy enough for a warm atmosphere.

Very well equipped - partic the kitchen and dining area, RIchard was a very helpful owner and made us feel welcome. Amazing views.

Merrivale is only 5/10 minutes walk from the coast via a footpath at the end of the drive and within a mile along the coastal path to the east is the National Trust beach at Wembury and to the west the beach at Bovisand, both with toilets and cafe/shop. Within easy reach by car you are many of the Devon and Cornish beaches such as Whitsands, Bigbury, Thurlestone and Bantham, as well as the north coast beaches such as Bude, Polzeath and Newquay.

A mile away in the village of Down Thomas is The Mussel Inn, parts of which may date back to the 14th Century, post office, and convenience store/ bicycle shop. For a main supermarket Morrisons in Plymstock is 4 miles away on the A379 towards Plymouth or Sainsburys at Marsh Mills, which is 7 miles away. The nearest banks are in Plymstock or Plymouth city centre. Riverford is a fantastic organic farm shop with everything from fruit, veg, meats, cheeses, wine and other groceries located in Yealmpton on the A379 heading east from Elburton. Somewhere to head for a little treat! Merrivale is only six miles from Plymouth where you can explore the historic Barbican area renowned for its heritage including the Mayflower Steps, cobbled streets, quaint shops, fine restaurants and bars many specialising in locally sourced produce and seafood. Plymouth is rapidly becoming a good food destination, so well worth the trip. Around the city there is a wide selection of tourist attractions including the National Marine Aquarium with its sharks, Plymouth Pavilions with its leisure pool and ice rink, the dry ski slope or toboggan run, the Theatre Royal which hosts many touring London West End Shows or the Drake Circus shopping mall which offers a wide selection of top retail outlets. Other local activities include coastal walks, hiking in Dartmoor National Park, boat-hire, surfing, mountain biking, horse-riding, fishing, cinema, not forgetting Adrenaline Quarry near Liskeard, a must for thrill seekers, with the longest zip line in Britain with a special Hovercraft Flying School! As Merrivale is on the border of Devon and Cornwall you can easily explore the two counties and find within an hour or so by car as there many fine Stately Homes and gardens open to the public such as Buckland Abbey, home of Sir Francis Drake, and castles such as Tintagel with legend of King Arthur. The many other gardens in Devon and Cornwall are a special delight in the spring when they provide a blaze of dramatic colours.

A 25% deposit is taken on booking. The rental balance, heating supplement (if applicable) and security deposit are payable 6 weeks before your holiday start date. The cautionary security/breakages deposit is £200 and will be refunded once the house has been checked over and usually within a week after leaving. For short breaks please enquire. Low season heating supplement of £40 per week.

Changeover Day:
Saturday changeover day with 10.00 departure and arrival from 16.00. Changeover day can be flexible for short breaks and Christmas/ New Year weeks.

Notes on prices:
Prices for the property per week in UK Pounds. Short breaks are available out of high season at 80% of weekly tariff for 4 nights or less. Please contact for availability. A heating supplement of £40pw is charged from 1st October until 31st March.
