Why Kate or Dinah chose Camaiore
Intenrational sculptor Fiore de Henriquez lived in the area of Camaiore due to its proximity to the Carrara marble quarries and the bronze foundries of nearby Pietrasanta. In the 1970's she found the small hamlet of Peralta, perched on the hillside above Camaiore. It was remote, served only by a footpath, and the buildings were mainly in ruins - their inhabitants having left in the mid 1950's due to the hard living in the hills. No water nor electricity at this time. Fiore fell in love with the hamlet and managed to gradually buy the various houses. She then set about restoring them and the hamlet and created the very unique place that exists today. She died in 2004 and the hamlet was then taken over by a very good friend who owns it today. Repairs and renovations are undertaken where necessary, but the essential essence of the hamlet remains the same as when Fiore was alive. It is the home of her archive and sculptures, which can be seen throughout the grounds and in the various accommodation.
What makes this Apartment unique
It is hard to describe the absolute charm and beauty of Peralta and why I am so passionate about it. I now own it and am as much in love with it as Fiore before me. Every corner has its surprises, small details to delight the eye. The wisterias and bougainvilleas offer vibrant colour and essential shade. The views are wonderful, changing with the light, with the weather, with the season. Sunsets are magic. Early morning mist lying in the valley. The sight of Corsica on a clear day. The large bronze sculpture of 'The Phoenix' on the main terrace about to fly off over the valley. Fiore used to say it signifies 'Peralta rising from the ashes'. The many sculptures Fiore left for visitors to enjoy on the terraces. Her private gallery which I love to show to guests and one evening a week, at aperitivo time, I invite any guests staying at Peralta to a viewing of the gallery and Fiore's original house I hope many visitors will find their way to Peralta and enjoy it as much I do ......... possibly even fall in love with it! A magical place to stay
We stayed here for 3 nights in early June and enjoyed every second of it. The views are amazing, along with the gardens and the pool. The location was great for day trips to surrounding areas. I would definitely return here in the future :)
Delighted to return after so many years!
Our last visit here was almost 20 years ago, when we enjoyed a truely wonderful family holiday. At last we've returned, to find that the unique Peralta magic we experienced then lives on.
Peralta is an incredibly special place. To stay here is nourishing for the soul! Thanks to Dinah and Kate for continuing to look after this haven of peace, representing all that's right with the world, for those of us fortunate enough to enjoy! And with Johann's warm welcome and Kate's kind attention how could we wait another 20 years?! Thank you.
Gorgeous, sympathetically decorated properties amongst the most amazing greenery and stunning views. Loved it!
Thank you very much. Hope to see you back at Peralta.
I was looking for a romantic destination with Tuscan charm and in a beautiful countryside setting and Peralta did not disappoint. This property was even more than I had hoped for. Stunning views and a wonderful staff. Dinah, Kate, and Christopher were so helpful and friendly. They were always there if we needed something yet we had plenty of privacy. When we needed to extend our stay on short-notice, they were very accommodating.
Peralta is a 25 minute walk to the small village of Pieve where we enjoyed delicious food with great service and a 45 minute walk from Camaiore full of friendly locals.
We loved this place and plan to return next year!
Incredible stay at beautiful Peralta
My girlfriend and I spent a week at Peralta Tuscany in September 2016 and had an absolutely magical time. It is a special place.
We stayed in Gemelli, a self-catering apartment with breath-taking views across the valley below and out over Peralta's main large terrace. Gemelli comprised a good sized bedroom with a comfy good sized bed and en suite, a small kitchen, living space with wood burner and arms chairs and even our own private terrace - perfect spot for a morning espresso!
We absolutely loved Peralta with it's traditional rustic Tuscan feel. There are so many charming nooks, crannies and pathways it feels there is always a private spot to read a book or simply take in the views. The pool area is great, located at the top of Peralta it is the perfect place to watch sunset.
We also visited Pietra Santa and Lucca nearby which we really enjoyed, both well worth a day trip.
We could not recommend Peralta highly enough and will be back!
wonderful holiday - amazing setting, quiet and idyllic, off the beaten track.
this beautiful hamlet is private, quiet and in the most gorgeous setting. the pool is situated on an elevated plateau with a stunning view, plenty of space to sunbathe and relax. the pool is quite small but deep and very refreshing.
the accommodation is as described - rustic and charming, clean and well-maintained, good service was provided.
the approach to the hamlet is a challenge - a very steep and winding road; for the faint-hearted there is small car park and the staff will take you up the last few hairpin bends.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review of your stay at Peralta. We are so pleased that you enjoyed our beautiful hamlet and hope very much you will return one day. We are planning to widen the last bit of the road as much as possible so as to make the access less of a challenge for our guests who have large cars (small cars have no problem).

Peralta is a hillside hamlet situated in the northern part of Tuscany, on the slopes of the Alpi Apuane (national park), 10 min from the market town of Camaiore which, in turn, is 10 min inland from the coast.
Lucca is a 35 min drive to the south.
The A12/A11 autoroute exit is 20 min, making day trips to Siena (2 h), Carrara & its marble mines (45 min) very easy.
You can drive into the Carrara mountains - or go to the beach - the closest is Viareggio, the most popular Forte dei Marmi (35 min or so). The Cinque Terre are one hour away - one can drive to La Spezia or Porto Venere and visit them by boat - the ferry service is frequent.
Shopping in the area (Lucca/Florence/Forte dei Marmi) is legendary! The sculptors' town of Pietrasanta is only 20 min away.
Peralta is Ideally situated for the Puccini Festival (40 min away). Open air opera Festival taking place in July and August at Torre del Lago.
We have a mountain of information and suggestions for our guests, including directions for walks, when and where local markets happen, brocante markets,' must visit' places and restaurants, our favourite mountain drive, etc etc
Peralta feels wonderfully remote and secluded and yet is, in fact, very accessible.
In the daytime, there is always someone on site to help with all inquiries regarding day trips, ferry times, advice on this and that.
