Oakbank Cottage provides stylish, spacious and supremely comfortable family accommodation in the dramatically beautiful Duddon Valley with the sound of a rushing mountain stream nearby. Set back from the little valley road in an enclosed garden, there's a lovely and handy old post office & stores a delightful stroll away. Plus it's an easy drive to Lakeland's favourite attractions and to vast, sandy beaches. The attractive little town of Broughton-in-Furness is just 10 minutes away, with two terrific food shops offering the finest local produce and a baker selling home-made bread and cakes. You'll also find several old inns nearby for excellent meals out. There's loads for all the family to see and do in the area, from golf and canoeing to an owl sanctuary, Cumbrian Heavy Horses Centre and La'al Ratty - a little single gauge steam train ride to the coast. You're in the heart of the mountains here, with wonderful walks from the door, and it's great for mountain biking. Relax in the oak-beamed sitting room and enjoy roaring log fires, comfy sofas and piles of books and games, or chill out and watch Sky TV and DVDs. Wifi makes sure that teenagers are happy too! The stunning and very well equipped kitchen-breakfast room opens onto a walled garden, where you can sit with a glass of wine and listen to the nearby waterfall and mountain beck.

About Candy Goad
We're Candy and Andrew Goad - and we're lucky enough to live in the Lake District, waking up every day to the sight of mountains and rushing rivers, and the sounds of skylarks and sheep. I was a creative director in a previous existence and love designing the ultimate holiday cottage - warm, welcoming, stylish - and a real home from home. Andrew loves doing up old houses and bringing them back to life. So he maintains the properties (and is on call if you need any help!) while I organise the bookings and make sure each of our two cottages is as gorgeous as it can be.
Candy Goad purchased this Cottage in 2005
Why Candy Goad chose Ulpha
There are few more beautiful locations than the Duddon Valley, one of Wordsworth favourite places. We love it too - because it's far less crowded than other parts of the Lakes but is quintessential Lakeland. If you want to see the most popular attractions they're all accessible, but you can come home to total tranquility.
What makes this Cottage unique
Oakbank Cottage is a just a few feet away from a rushing mountain river in this stunning location, with lovely walks from the door - including a handy ten minute stroll to the little post office and stores in Ulpha! This is a special cottage, very well equipped, beautifully furnished and really, really comfortable. Everyone finds they relax completely when they're here - and that it makes a great base for a family holiday in the Lakes.

Idilic location, beautiful valley....
Quite remote, in the quieter area of The Lakes. Enjoyed going to the coast and wandering the Haverigg headland! Great day!
The house was comfortable, clean and everything worked well! Lovely showers, kitchen etc. It was great the garden being enclosed for the dogs.
Thanks so much for a great stay x
Really delighted you had a great stay at Oakbank Cottage! I'm always happy when our guests discover the wonderful coast as well as the traditional Lakeland scenery. Thank you so much for taking the time to write this lovely review.
Lovely cottage, everything we needed!
Plenty of space for us all and very comfortable, when we ran out of water (as did most of the area) James was so helpful to get it going again and get the supply going!
Spacious comfortable cottage
This cottage was lovely for a large family or party. It had a lovely garden to sit out in and listen to the quiet with just singing birds. The walks around the property are amazing and we thoroughly enjoyed exploring the Lake District. We loved Muncaster Castle with its falconry display and wonderful child-friendly gardens, and we enjoyed the peaceful village of Cartmel which although was small, had the Cartmel Priory Church which was really good to see, and some really gorgeous shops, cafe's, pubs, restaurants and delicatessens.
Spacious cottage in Ulpha
We had a lovely time in this very spacious property. Well equipped kitchen. Comfy front room. Showers worked well. There was a bit of a water shortage due to the springs not being filled with rain although we were not affected - we were just more frugal with it than usual.
Very relaxing stay
We had a lovely long weekend stay at the cottage, it had everything we needed and was very clean and cosy. Beautiful surroundings, the river just outside was very lovely to hear, it made us feel very chilled. Thanks Candy :)
Really happy to hear how much you enjoyed your weekend and absolutely delighted you were able to snuggle in and chill out at the cottage! Thanks so much for letting us know.
Fantastic time, peacefull and the Log Fire made it special at this time of year.
We had a really great time, the Log Fire at this time of year really made it special and the Property was exactly as described in the description. Owner really great helped us get some more Logs when the original supply ran out.
We're absolutely delighted you had such a lovely Christmas at Oakbank Cottage and thank you so much for letting us know. We love old-fashioned Christmases with a log fire and real Christmas tree and always try to get the same atmosphere at the cottage as we have at home. I hope you'll visit another time - maybe come in the Spring when there are lambs in the Duddon Valley! Thanks again.
There are beautiful, vast, sandy beaches around 30 - 40 minutes drive away at Silecroft and St Bees, which has a beach cafe.
The nearest airports are Liverpool and Manchester, approximately 2 hours drive away. A car is essential.
The nearest stations are Ulverston, 30 minutes away, and Oxenholme, the Lake District, about an hour's drive but with an excellent, fast service to London.
There is a post office and stores selling newspapers and basics about 10 minutes walk (with fantastic scenery!) from the cottage. Broughton-in-Furness is a very attractive little market town about 10 minutes drive away, with an excellent butcher/delicatessen, greengrocer/grocer and a very good home-made bread/cakes shop which is also a cafe. There is a bank too, as well as a couple of good pubs. Tesco deliver to the cottage too!
There are several old inns within 10 minutes drive serving very good food.
