|Minimum Stay||7 nights|
Our family villa has a large mature garden with shaded patios and seating areas, as well as a lovely pool protected from view by a well established flowering hibiscus hedge. The villa is situated half way up a gentle rise from the sea to Chlorakas village, so a gentle breeze shields you from the heat of the day. It was built when only a small area of the plot could be used and so gives a wonderful sense of space and peace.
Chlorakas village has retained its traditional style with a wonderful church at its centre, a friendly taverna, a delicious take-away, as well as more modern bars, all within easy walking distance of the villa. The sea is a 10 minute walk away and the beautiful sandy beaches of Coral Bay and the Akamas Peninsular, a short drive.
The villa is spacious and well equipped with Internet access, TV, DVD player, CD player, a variety of games, videos and CDs. The living room is large and has two sets of sliding French windows that open out onto a large patio, well shaded by grapevine and bougainvilia. The bedrooms and bathrooms are well designed for comfort and privacy as they are separated from the living room with wooden sliding doors, making it possible during the hot summer months, to keep them cool whilst still being able to move freely from the lounge to the patio.
The kitchen is well equipped and has a round wooden table with 4 chairs should you want to eat inside at any time during your stay. The adjoining utility room with separate sliding door, houses a washing machine, an ironing board and iron, the barbecue equipment and also a large cupboard full of adult and child beach and pool toys for your enjoyment. There is a table tennis table outside with its own paved area and the barbecue is built into one of our large trees, beside which is a stone table shaded by a large fig tree.
Our villa and pool are well maintained by our agent Tina and her partner David who are on hand to welcome, change linen and for any eventualities. Our large garden provides many seating areas, spectacular views of the sea, shade when needed and plenty of sun drenched patios. It has been maintained for some years by Den, who comes once a week to ensure it remains in tip top condition for you to enjoy during your stay.
We bought a field and designed the villa ourselves, at a time when only a small proportion of the land could be built on. It has been our much loved holiday home ever since and we have added to the villa and garden over the years. We hope that anyone who goes to stay there, will love it as much as we do.
Mrs Viv Peyton purchased this villa in 1980
We loved the Chlorakas area and it has never disappointed us. It is possible to go to Paphos for more cosmopolitan restaurants and fun but also to be out of the mainstream of tourism and we are well situated for Coral Bay, the Akamas peninsula and over the hills, to go boating and snorkeling at Latchi.
Chlorakas itself is a charming village with a beautiful church at its centre, and it has not followed other villages in losing its traditional character. The Famagusta tavern is a short walk away and offers friendly and delicious food and local wine.
Very few villas for rent in Cyprus have either the size or maturity of garden or the privacy that our villa offers to our tenants. There is shade where needed but also sunny areas for sunbathing, beautiful sea views and a gentle breeze that protects from the heat of the summer in Paphos.
These are the most recent comments from our visitors book, where we ask our tenants to let us know about their holiday experience and to share any new discoveries.
'This was out first villa holiday and we couldn't have asked for anything better. It is a lovely villa with an amazing garden which my son (3 years old) has loved exploring. He has really enjoyed hunting for different fruits and then cutting them up to see what was inside.'
'We booked this holiday to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary and what a fantastic place to celebrate. The villa is superb and exceeded all our expectations.
'A wonderful holiday in a really lovely villa, the garden is probably the best we have enjoyed out of the many villas we have stayed in. So many plants, flowers, trees and interesting little nooks and crannies, seating in different areas ... all perfect!'
We have just come back from a 2 week holiday in Cyprus. On arrival we had a much appreciated welcome pack which was perfect as we had a late flight. The villa was brilliant, beautifully clean with a fantastic patio area overlooking the pool. We found it really comfortable and perfectly equipped for our 2 week stay with plenty of games to play whilst sitting under the vines on the patio. The villa is really well located to supermarkets, beaches and restaurants.
The garden is a real oasis, we had many happy days relaxing by the pool, playing table tennis and generally watching the wildlife. When we weren’t swimming we loved going for little nature hunts around the garden.
This our 3rd visit and can’t recommend it enough. We love the island and would definitely recommend renting a 4x4 car. A few days were spent out and about, Turtle bay (Akamas Peninsular) was probably our favourite as we were lucky enough to see a baby turtle being released into the sea. Viklari was absolutely amazing and the best BBQ on the island and Latchi a real highlight. Agios Georgios is still a favourite place for a Keo watching the sun go down.
Highly recommended and the owners were really friendly and helpful!
We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Lizard Rock. The garden, pool & patio area are really beautiful and private and the terrace is great. Diana for the cleaning & linen change and Andy for the pool did a splendid job and were very helpful. There's a number of decent restaurants within 20 mins walk (Caravelle, Sienna & Famagusta were our favourites) and a very good bus service between Paphos & Coral Bay just 10 mins walk down the hill. Will certainly consider coming back.
I can't recommend Lizard Rock Villa highly enough.
It was literally a little corner of paradise.
The villa itself is well appointed, spotlessly clean and beautifully cool.
The weather was amazing and perfect for relaxing by the pool, lizard watching, playing table tennis, boules or cooking a delicious lunch on the bbq which we ate on the terrace overlooking the sea.
The gardens are stunning and filled with fruit trees and bushes - oranges, lemons, grape vines, mango... The smell in the garden is heady and floral.
The villa looks directly west which means we watched the sun set and sink away. Just incredible.
It is well placed for Coral Bay with it's white sandy beach and azure waters, Pathos which has a harbour full of restaurants and ice cream parlours plus a new large shopping mall, the Troodos Mountains and numerous vineyards and historic sights.
Very much hoping to go again next year!
We arrived at Lizard Rock excited to begin our holiday, when we walked in the villa we were really happy as everything was lovely. The villa is like home from home, everything you need is there. When you arrive there is a welcome pack which included things like water, milk, bread, jam etc (I cannot remember everything) but everything included was exactly what we needed.
This villa is very spacious inside the bedrooms are all lovely, the kitchen has all the equipment you need from a bottle opener to equipment to cook a lovely meal for the family.
In my opinion the gem of this villa is the outside area, when you open the patio doors and walk outside it is absolutely beautiful. There is a large patio area where you can enjoy eating outside and several areas around the property where you can sit and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
The garden is so interesting, I spent ages walking around and looking at the different plants and flowers and fruit hanging on the trees.
The swimming pool is a good size and kept beautifully clean, which makes it very inviting ! There are plenty of chairs and sun beds outside and around the pool. The table tennis provided lots of fun for our family and a great idea to add some entertainment to the outside area.
The villa is called lizard rock for a reason, there are little lizards (I don't know the correct names for them) in the garden. You may be lucky enough to see one sunbathing on a rock or on the side of the house. There are two tiny ones that live on the side of the villa near the kitchen, they come out at night.
They just sit on the wall in the evening and became part of the holiday and we always looked out for them. I was a little weiry of them to start with but then i realised they are not interested in me and as with garden creatures at home they run away if you go near them. Once i became comfortable around them i enjoyed seeing them whenever i had the opportunity.
The villa is only a few miles away from Coral Bay, there are many places to visit and also to eat out. I could write all day about places we went and places we ate at, but i think that discovering places yourself is part of the fun of a holiday.
Lastly, the owner Viv and her team are very friendly and helpful, when they come in to tend the pool/ garden/ villa, they are very discreet so not to disturb you.
I hope this helps you make the decision to visit Lizard Rock as it is a beautiful place to spend your holiday
We have been to Lizard Rock three times now and each time it gets better! I can't highlight just one thing about this villa because everything is great. The location, the accommodation, the facilities are all first class, everything you need to have a relaxing holiday. Will definitely be booking again.
We stayed at Lizard Rock when we were visiting Paphos for a family wedding. I was 5 months pregnant and needed some rest and relaxation! Lizard Rock could not have been more perfect.
The house is a great, calming space and the garden is totally beautiful. It has been planted and landscaped with so much attention to detail. The pool was my absolute highlight, and I could have quite happily spent the whole holiday in there! The table tennis and outdoor BBQ kept us occupied too!
We had some great days out to local beaches (Lara being a favourite) and restaurants. Hiring a speedboat in Latchi was another great day out.
There are lots of leaflets and information about local attractions in the house, with guest books full of lots of suggestions of great days out had by other visitors.
I would absolutely recommend Lizard Rock to couples, families and groups of friends wanting a relaxing, gorgeous holiday!
Lizard Rock Villa is in a quiet residential area with lovely sea views, set in a large mature garden, within easy reach of Paphos and Coral Bay and close to the beautiful Akamas Peninsular and Lara Bay.
Nearby Coast and Beaches:
From the villa, it is just a 10 minute walk to the sea where you can swim from a small pebbled beach and walk the coastal path all the way to the harbour in Paphos. For larger sandy beaches you can drive or take a 10 minute bus ride to Coral Bay where there are 2 very nice beaches and a wide variety of water sports. A slightly longer drive takes you into wildlife sanctuary of the Akamas Peninsular. There you will soon come to the beautiful hilltop taverna called The Last Castle. It is family run and very friendly. You sit at stone tables under grape vines, sampling the best batbecue we have found in Cyprus! Returning there from a day on Lara beach and sipping your first ice cold Keo is just heaven and not to be missed! Do book in advance from the card in the villa as it is very popular.
A little further on along a rough track, you will come to Lara bay where there are two lovely beaches. The first has a taverna overlooking the beach and the sea, but the second beach is free of habitation and is just wonderful. It is where the turtles come in and make their nests and is unspoilt. The sea sparkles it is so clear and swimming there, looking out over the hills of the Akamas is truly magical. We never miss it!
If you have rented a little 4 wheel drive you can drive on from Lara along the coastal path to Latchi. Or you can go back to the tarmac road and drive over the hills, sampling beautiful views of the island as you go. This takes about 30 minutes but it is well worth the drive. The beaches at Latchi are less sandy but the swimming and the snorkelling are fantastic. It is also a great place to have a go at diving for a day or you can take your own boat out and explore the lovely coast. We do this every trip and eat at one of the fish tavernas that line the coast there and offer all the local fish, fresh from the sea.
Paphos airport is only 20 minute drive from the villa. Our agent can arrange a taxi to pick you up and bring you to the villa or car hire is relatively cheap. It is not essential to have a car as the bus service into Paphos and to Cora Bay is frequent. However, to really see the best of the surrounding areas, car hire for some of your stay would be advised and a little 4 wheel drive means you can really explore the Akamas. We use a cheap local service and are happy you give you his details. He knows the villa well and can bring the car to you the morning after you arrive or meet you with the car at the airport.
Chlorakas village is 5 minutes walk from the villa, where there is a bank, an excellent taverna called the Famagusta, a fishmonger, two good Greek take away, traditional cafes, as well as more modern cafes and bars. A 5 minute walk the other way takes you to a little shop which in Cyprus is called a kiosk and which sells the basics. A little further away is a larger supermarket, called Papantoniou, which still sells all the local produce but where you can get anything you may need. There are many additional shops nearby, including a pharmacy, a hairdressers and a bakery.
A short drive away, Paphos is a thriving town and the best Roman mosaics in the world are to be found there, as well as many high quality Greek and cosmopolitan restaurants. Fish is a speciality and a meal on the harbour overlooking the sea and Paphos castle is a lovely evening out. For the young at heart Paphos also has a very lively night life, with many bars, clubs and discos.
Coral Bay has many restaurants and night life and is a toned down version of the one in Paphos. It is one of the oldest British areas in this part of Cyprus and tends towards British pubs and restaurants, whereas Chlorakas is much smaller and has retained more of its traditional flavour. The little harbour of Agios Georgious is a bit further on from Coral Bay along the coast, passing the Sea Caves where there are fascinating rock formations and views to enjoy. There is another beautiful taverna overlooking the sea with a wide menu including delicious fish caught that day.
Latchi has a different coastline, with its pebbly beaches and calm, clear sea. It has a gorgeous marina and boating and snorkelling are a must during your stay. Another great area for learning to water ski and sailing or wind surfing is Pissouri Bay to the East of Paphos about 40 minutes drive away. There is also kite surfing nearby and the tavernas on the neighbouring Avdimou beach offer a more casual experience and a very safe, sandy beach to enjoy.
