Holiday Home in Mullion, Lizard Peninsula, Cornwall, England - Ideal for dogs. Next to coast path. Less than 10 minutes to secluded Polurrian Bay. Surfing nearby.

Sleeps 4. Situated in a clifftop location on the edge of the village of Mullion on the Lizard Peninsular. Breathtaking views of the sea and coast. Metres from the coastal path and ideal for dogs. Short coastal walk down to beautiful secluded sandy Polurrian Cove. The cottage is metres from the Polurrian Bay Hotel, where guests are able to enjoy complimentary use of the indoor pool, gym, tennis court and outdoor pool as well as the hotel's relaxed and excellent dining. The cottage has an open plan kitchen, dining-room/lounge area, a bathroom, a private patio with seating and off road parking. Mullion village is a short walk away. There are shops, pubs and restaurants all within 15 minutes walk. The coastal path passes in front of the property and Poldhu Beach (for surfing) and Church Cove are easily reached by foot and car. The Helford river (for sailing), spectacular Kynance Cove, charming Cadgwith Cove and the Lizard (Britain's southernmost point) are all within a short drive.

About Lucy Townsend

I work and live in London with my husband, an architect, and our two boys aged, 13 and 10.

I spent my childhood holidays in Cornwall and have been bringing my two boys to Mullion and Polurrian Bay every year since they were very small. It was a chance encounter with the previous owner that enabled us to go ahead and purchase our own small part of this beautiful county.

We try and escape to Columbine as much as we can, and spent our first Christmas on the Lizard last year. It was incredibly relaxing to escape the hustle of London to be by the sea and enjoy a walk to Kynance Cove on Christmas Day and brave the Atlantic for the traditional Boxing Day swim at Polurrian Cove. If you don't fancy that then there's always the coziness of the cottage with a good book.

Why Lucy Townsend chose Lizard Peninsula

There is something for everyone on the Lizard whether it's the abundance of beautiful beaches dotted along the peninsula (Kynance Cove the gem), delicious food, surfing, walking the coast path, kayacking around Mullion harbour and beyond, sailing on the Helford river, wildlife, arts and craft or just pure relaxation.

The cottage lies adjacent to the coast path less than 10 minutes walk to Polurrian Cove. Rarely crowded this sandy beach offers surfing on your doorstep. We love to go down early evening in high summer with a beach barbeque and catch the last of the sun as the tide rolls in. Or blow the cobwebs away and walk to Poldu Beach, about a 15 minute walk, for an egg and bacon breakfast bap and "special" hot chocolate with cream and marshmallow. There is also the surf school.

What makes this bungalow unique

Despite being the most southerly point of England, Cornish weather is always changeable. The cottage includes free use of the leisure facilities of the Polurrian Bay Hotel just metres away, including the tennis court (with views of Mounts Bay), indoor and outdoor pools, jacuzzi and gym. There is also a spa offering a range of treatments to treat and relax you on holiday. You can also take advantage of the informal yet good quality dining.

Mullion village is a short walk away and has a range of shops and fooderies to suit most of your needs including a well-stocked Costcutter and Spa (selling local produce) to bakery with home made bread and Cornish pasties, delicatessen, chemist, post office and the Atlantic Forge for your wetsuits and the latest beach necessity.

Notes on accommodation: Bookings run from Saturday to Saturday but can be flexible out of high season. Electric thermastatically-controlled heating (new in 2012). The cottage is suitable for children. Dogs are welcome, there will be a charge of £35 per dog per week. Outside: Private south-facing decked patio with table and seating for 6. Storage and drying facilities for wetsuits and bikes. Free use of indoor heated pool, jacuzzi, outdoor pool gym tennis court and leisure facilities belonging to the adjacent hotel and just a few minutes walk away. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Duvets and pure cotton linen changed weekly. Hand towel and bath mat for bathroom. Bath and beach towels not provided. Mid-stay clean included if requested. High chair provided if needed. Selection of tea towels/cleaning cloths on arrival. Welcome tray. Beautiful secluded Polurrian cove minutes walk away and Mullion Cove harbour with kayak and oceaneering 15 minutes walk.

Lovely bungalow, cracking location

The stay was all we hoped it would be. The location is perfect - smack on the coast path overlooking a beautiful stretch of the coastline with great walks/runs in both directions and a sweet little cove just a short (if steep!) walk away. The property was very clean, nicely decorated, neatly furnished and well equipped with all you need for a short stay - including a washer /dryer which came in handy. Having the hotel gym facility on tap was a very nice added bonus - we didn't make use of the pool but that looked good too. The patio is a sun trap and great for an afternoon G&T. The pub in Mullion is excellent: good beers, nice food and very friendly. Highly recommended.

Cottage with cosy atmosphere in beautiful location

We spent a lovely holiday week with our two sons, 15 and 11 years, in Columbine Cottage. Although the cottage is rather small it has all you need for a good and relaxing time. It is lovingly decorated and the mattresses were very comfortable - we all slept very well and long. The place is so quiet and peaceful! The boys enjoyed the possibilty to swim in the indoor pool of the hotel in the neighbourhood. The location of Columbine Cottage is unique, it is located directly next to the coast path and in 5 minutes walk down a path you reach Polurrian Cove. We can highly recommend Columbine Cottage to everybody who likes holidays in a peaceful and quiet area, next to the overwhelming nature and scenery of the Lizard Peninsula. A forgettable holiday! Thank you!

The cottage is compact you are right especially with two teenage boys who are similar ages to ours, however, as you say the availability of the local Hotel indoor and outdoor pools and tennis court which you can use free of charge, along with the sun-kissed outdoor terrace and its proximity to a beautiful secluded sandy cove you can walk to help compensate for this. Our future plans include a rear extension and kitchen refurbishment to enlarge the eating area which should offer more feeling of space.

Perfect

The property was super, It was very clean on arrival, warm and dry without a hint of any damp. The decor is bright, modern and tastefully updated. It was perfect for our family of four, far from the madding crowd (not too far) on the coastal path and a short stroll down to the beautiful cove. We used the pool every day and played tennis overlooking the sea. Would definitely return.

A really nice suprise!

A charming little chalet in a superb location.No need to drive anywhere for a glorious walk on the South West Coastal Path,just walk out the front door..Left for The Lizard...Right for Lands End!! We found two excellent places for an evening meal and a well stocked supermarket 5 minutes by car.the property was everything we needed for a weeks stay..even damp clouds did not deter us.Very quiet at night,we had no need to use the hotel but dropped by and a really nice place there too,the guy on the desk was very helpful.In short,a really nice surprise and highly recommended if you want somewhere to stay on this amazing coast of ours :-)

Beautiful location but cottage damp

Lovely destination, great to be able to walk to the beach, shops and pubs. The location is beautiful. The kids loved swimming in the hotel pool every day and plenty to do in the local area rain or shine. The maritime museum at Falmouth was great for a rainy day. The only downside was that the cottage was damp. The smell in the twin room and kitchen was overwhelming and we had to dry the bedsheets on arrival. I emailed the owners on our return in case they were not aware of this problem. As I didn’t receive a response I can only assume it is an ongoing problem. I would not recommend this cottage unless you have assurance from the owners that the damp has been fixed.

perfect location

We have just returned from a glorious week at Columbine Cottage what a fabulous location. It is situated on the coastal path with views of the sea from your doorstep. We walked along the coastal path to Mullion cove a few times and our dogs loved it.The cottage is compact ,excellently equipped and spotlessly clean. The small decked back garden catches the sun nearly all day and is perfect for reading or just relaxing. One of the best cottages we have ever booked.

The cottage is directly adjacent the coastal path and just a few minutes walk to the quiet and secluded sandy beach at Polurrian Cove. Poldu Beach with its surf school and beach cafe (open all year) is about 20 minutes walk or less than 10 minutes in the car. There are many other beaches including stunning gem Kynance Cove (with acclaimed National Trust cafe), the charming fishing village of Cadgwith Cove or the quite calm of Daphne Du Maurier's Frenchman's Creek all within a short drive.

Distances:

Mullion Village is a 10 minute walk away with its selection of restaurants, art galleries, shops, pubs and churches. There are many interesting places to visit within a 15-minute drive including the market town of Helston, the Helford river and the Lizard (Britain's southernmost point). Bustling St Ives with its Tate St Ives art gallery, Falmouth and west Cornwall's simply spectacular open-air Minack Theatre overlooking Porthcurno Beach are less than an hour's drive away.

Mullion village is a short walk away. There are shops, pubs, restaurants and the famous Mullion chocolate factory!

Booking Notes:
Our aim is to keep the availability page as current as possible but please contact the owner to confirm availability. Bookings are subject to a £200 deposit per week with the balance due 8 weeks before arrival. Bookings made within 8 weeks of the holiday date are payable in full at the time of booking. Short breaks and long weekends are available in low-season.

Changeover Day:
Normal changeover day is Saturday although this is flexible in low season and for late bookings.

Notes on prices:
There is an additional £15.00 per week charge for the supply of linen for the sofa-bed.

The full holiday balance is due 8 weeks before the start of your holiday
