My husband and I are semi retired professionals. We bought Rainbow Farm about 14 years ago purchasing it when it came up for sale after our family had rented it for two years for our holidays. We use it very much as home and have tried to make it as comfortable and well equipped as our UK home. We frequently take groups of friends from our church for short breaks and our annual family holiday get together takes place every Summer.
We enjoy the house in both Summer and Winter. It's good to curl up, after a good French style meal, with a book in front of the log fire and our grand children love it when it snows. The garden is a delight in Summer and we eat on the terrace whenever possible. La Fermette is my husband's dream of a home and he would like to relocate it to the UK.
Carole Ford purchased this farmhouse in 2002
We rented the house for two consecutive years and when it came on the market decided that we would buy it to continue to enjoy it. We live in Kent so its a quick and easy journey for us to get to the farmhouse. We enjoy quiet countryside and like rural French life without the hassle of a long car journey. Our kids all enjoy being able to get there cheaply and quickly and with a car full of young children there's no stress on the short journey. We are still finding things to do in the area and are never bored.
With a growing family of grand children we enjoy the space of the house and garden. We like to take groups of friends for weekends and for us the journey is so quick and easy. I do not want to spend many hours in a car driving through France to get further south to a crowded beach when the beaches on the coast nearby are fabulous.
I have just returned from my 3rd visit to Rainbow Farm this year and it was, as ever, a superb location for a late summer break. The house is clean, comfortable and in a good location for exploring northern France. Especially good for history enthusiasts: Crequy within 20 minutes, an hour or so from Ypres and the Somme and plenty of WW2 memorials all within easy reach. La Coupole- the German construction site for the V2 weapons is a MUST.
After seeing so much bad news about travelling through Calais I was just a little apprehensive about my journey. This was totally unnecessary as like all my other journeys this last year I saw no trace of any problems.
The owners of Rainbow Farm have worked hard to make this house a good holiday home with so many comforts that one does not always find in rental properties. La Fermette has been well restored from a traditional French farmhouse to a modern comfortable home whilst retaining some of the original features.
I highly recommend this property for a relaxing break in northern France.
A very lovely cottage, not too far from the Euro shuttle. Drive took us about 45 mins(but I do tend to drive fast!). Bedrooms very large and en suite. I travelled with my two young daughters and a little yorkie terrier. Kitchen well equipped with all the necessary items you would need for cooking. Large fridge freezer, microwave. Had a gorgeous view of the church outside the kitchen window. I loved that we could open all the windows and french doors during the day. We had breakfast outside most mornings. A decked area with tables and chairs/bench. Large garden for our dog to run around in. Security gates to the entrance of the house. Plenty of car parking space. House was very clean. There were board games for a rainy day, plenty of books to read. The lounge was large with comfy sofas. We met the owners as they were staying in the cottage next door for a few days. Carol was very helpful with information and told us about a few festivals taking place near by. Which we went to. All in all the place is suitable for children/the elderly/families with teenagers. I would like to say a very big Thank You to Carol for helping me out when my car broke down!
Her french was a lot better then mine and she helped to translate everything to the recovery chap.
We took my mother in law and sister in law for a week in France and hired La Fermette. It is in a lovely rural area. The local supermarket (about 10 minutes away) was pretty good. We used this home as a base and had enjoyable trips to Boulogne and Paris from there. The house is well equipped and spacious. We ate outside on the decking every day ( except the one day it rained). This property is good value for money. We all had a very relaxing holiday.
Thank you for a wonderful holiday. The house was delightful, full of character and well equipped. Our children loved the chance to explore the countryside around the house (both in the extensive garden and the surrounding village) and we had a couple of fantastic trips to the beach. The footpaths and quiet roads around the property provided excellent family cycling and more demanding cycling was enjoyed by those that wanted it. We will definitely book again.
Lovely conversion of this old and interesting property - loads of original features, but modernised to a high standard so very comfortable.
The property was clean, in very good state of repair, and well-equipped. Possibly a few more dishes for cooking for 5 or 6 may have been useful, but we managed.
Hope to return in the summer to enjoy the garden and terrace.
Good walking area with many signposted routes within a few minutes of the houses. Good also for cycling. Many excllent local markets selling fish, meat and vegetables produced in the region. Many weekend markets selling bric a brac , arts and crafts and local foods Visit Montreuill for the sound and light show of Les Miserables performed on the ramparts. Excellent museum and many varied places to eat catering for all tastes and prices.
Miles of excellent sandy beaches within 35 minutes drive with free and easy parking. Le Touquet for beach, market and shops 30 minutes drive. Good markets Aqualud in Le Touquet is a water park with an eclectic mix of flumes, slides, chutes both indoor and out.
Rimboval is just over 1 hour by car from the Shuttle terminal at Calais and 1 hour 15 minutes from the port.
10 minutes drive to nearest town with useful shops. 20 minutes to walled town of Montreuil and Les Miserables Son et Lumiere in Summer. Within easy driving distance for a day out to Amiens (the largest cathedral in Europe with stunning stained glass windows), Arras, Bruges, WW 1 and 2 battle fields including Ypres. Denlys Park only 15 minutes. Bagatelle 25 minutes. La Coupole and Arques Crystal factory 30 minutes. Abbey de Valloires 30 minutes, Azincourt 25 minutes. 7 valleys is an area that has outstanding natural beauty and is a bird watchers delight. Paris and Bruges for a long day out are both possibilities if you get up early.
Good location for commemorating ww1 battles - Ypres easy driving distance.
Carrefour supermarket, excellent boulangerie and banks in nearest town 10 minutes. Hypermarket within 15 minutes drive. Mobile shops call in village several times weekly. Large range of restaurants within 20 minutes drive. Good walking in the area and maps left at house. Chocolate factory tours in Beussent 15 minutes. Interesting picturesque watermill at Maintenay serving good lunches and snacks and selling home made bread. A real treat is a meal at Le Fournil in Coupelle-Vieille (15 minutes away) Outstanding food and wine but does not come cheap.
The cosy log burning stoves in both houses make for a good relaxing stay in the winter to simply enjoy rural France and good food and wine.
