A two bedroom traditional stone house in the centre of the peaceful mountain village of Lysos on the edge of the forest. At the front a stone arch leads to a covered bbq area with traditional ovens & seating for 6. To the rear there is a private ( 8 x 4 m) pool with Roman steps. The spacious paved pool area has sun loungers, a parasol, table & chairs. Lysos with its spectacular views of mountains, sea and forest has its own coffee shops and a family run hotel serving traditional dishes. At approx 500 metres above sea level the village has a perfect climate in the hot summer months. A short drive takes you to the small quaint town of Polis with its picturesque square, restaurants, bars and beach. Further beaches and restaurants can be found at the pretty harbour of Latchi, gateway to the unspoilt Akamas Peninsula. A perfect location for a restful break away from the hustle & bustle of touristy Paphos.
The house was perfect & the time of year was the best for seeing flowers & greenery. We hope to return to this house in years to come. Thanks. Mar/Apr 2010
Wow ! Where to start. Amazing house, fabulous pool & astonished at the amount of outside space. Peaceful & relaxing holiday. July 2010
We were very pleased with the quality of the accommodation. Everything we needed was there. A real home from home. The pool area is wonderful. Have enjoyed exploring the local area. We're already looking forward to our 2nd visit. Sep 2010
We had a lovely stay at the house which was very clean and is in an excellent location close to Polis and Latchi.
Ideal for a relaxing holiday!
We had a lovely stay during the weekend, the house was very clean and we suggest it for relaxing vacations.
This is a comfortable stone house in a nicely situated quiet hill top village with easy access to the Polis & Latchi beaches and with scenic drives in all directions. It offered us all that we required for a pleasant and relaxing quiet stay in Cyprus, giving opportunity for days on relatively quiet beaches or a drive into Pathos forest without encountering any other car for several kms.
Even arriving in the early hours of the morning in darkness, owner instructions to the property driving from Pathos airport were clear and easy to follow and access guidance was good. There was a choice of refreshment and basic food items supplied in the house that gave opportunity to enjoy a nice breakfast on the patio first day before heading out to a supermarket.
The house is well equipped with a good size pool and patio area which benefits from the sun throughout the day and in to the early evening.
Evenings and nights are cooler and the many ceiling fans appeared to offer enough air movement to keep rooms at a comfortable temperature for sleeping comfortably. Shower and toilet facilities were good, and plenty of towels for both house and beach.
Lysos is a pleasant place for an evening stroll around its streets with eating and drinking venues if you do not want the drive to nearby villages or the 10km drive down to the sea or the town center of Polis, which both benefit from many restaurants and tavernas.
The villages of Peristerona and Steni are within a 10 minute drive down the hill and both offer food and drink in pleasant restaurants. Steni has a great little rural museum that is free of charge (donation) offering a vision of the past to traditional trades and crafts in the local area, it really is worth a visit and was devoid of any other visitors when we went in.
I think we did spot a bus go through the village, but to enjoy all the great scenery, roads and trails in the surrounding areas and beyond a car or 4x4 is essential.
All in all Mark and Tracey's property served our needs for the type of holiday we were seeking, if you are looking for a quiet retreat away from the mainstream coastal resorts but still within a scenic drive then this might be the property for you?
We came up to Lysos to explore the region and be near to Polis and Latchi. The villa was the perfect base, not all singing all dancing if that is what you're looking for but more than adequate for our needs. It's very peaceful and one of our favourite things to do was lie on the roof at night watching the glorious sunset and later the (shooting) stars A very well equipped villa with a fab pool which the boys loved. We spent days away exploring, then back to Lysos to jump in the pool. The villagers are lovely, welcoming people and we enjoyed frapes and beers with Mike as well as a slouvaki at the local tavern. Lysos is perfectly situated to explore this region. We want to explore the whole of Cyprus while we are living here bit if we have time, we would definitely return to Tracey's villa.
Polis / Latchi 15 minutes drive. Polis beach has a beach bar / restaurant & is surrounded by woodland whilst Latchi has diving, boat trips and watersports on offer. The beaches are sand / shingle with amazing views & spectacular sunsets. There is a lovely coastal walkway linking Polis beach & Latchi.
Paphos airport 45 minutes drive. Larnaca airport approx 2 hour drive.
Car hire is recommended.
Polis - 13 km
Forest - 22 km
Paphos - 48 km
Larnaca - 175 km
Lysos is surrounded by fields, ideal for walking, cycling and birdwatching and also has pony trekking. The nearby forest with its nature trails has a Mouflon enclosure, where these shy, native creatures can be seen in their natural environment. The small town of Polis has all the necessary facilities including supermarkets, banks, post office, chemists, doctors, hospitals, cycle hire and a good tourist office.
The nearby villages of Peristerona & Steni have churches, museums and coffee shops and Steni has a restaurant.
Polis is a small unspoilt town with tavernas, restaurants, bars & gift shops. and nearby Latchi has many restaurants along the harbour.
The unspoilt Akamas Peninsula 20 minutes drive is home to a variety of plants & birds. With its deep gorges & sandy bays a 4 x 4 vehicle is recommended for driving in this beautiful rugged terrain. Lara Bay has a beautiful beach and a turtle sanctuary.
A wine trail can be found in Kathikas 20 minutes drive.
Paphos is a UNESCO World Heritage site with the Tombs of the Kings and the amazing mosaics. Also in Paphos is Aphrodite Waterpark a great day out for all the family.
