About us: Margaret is a trained junior primary school teacher and has lived in Italy for the last 20 years and moved to Cortona with her husband Maurizio and two boys, Thomas 16and Elliott 14 nine years ago. When not playing mum, she is busy in the greenhouse or creating beautiful photographs. Maurizio, Italian born and bred divides his time between Tuscany and Milan where he is a successful advertising photographer and film director. Thomas is 14 years old and passionate about fast cars. He goes to the school in Australia. His little brother Elliott who is 12 years old loves computer programming and mine craft! We are all completely bilingual in Italian and English.
Margaret purchased this Farmhouse in 2005
Why Margaret chose Cortona
Welcome to our home. Having become tired of the city and smog filled air of Milan we began searching for a better way of life for our children and ourselves 9 years ago. We stumbled on this property and instantly fell in love with it! The property probably dates back to the 1100s with the newest part being built in the early 1800s. The house would originally have been built by the farm workers who were under the power of the land owner who lived next door (evident by the tower on our neighbours house). We have been told that our home housed 30 people in the early 1920s as well as a barn under the house for the animals. The land was let completely go after the second world war when many farms in Italy were abandoned for the lure of easy work in the cities.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
Our little farm offers a respite from the bustling Tuscan towns that surround us. The benefits of being at 650m above sea level means that the nights are always cool, no matter how hot the days are. Our 24/7 presence means that we are always on hand for advice about what to see and where to go and "how to say in Italian" as well as for any questions or problems that you may have.

Perfect Family Holiday.
This place is an absolute joy. From beginning to end, we loved it.
The property in the Tuscan hills is utterly charming, spacious & fully equipped.
We felt welcome immediately and Margaret was most helpful, especially with her handy tractor to help with the luggage!
The views are spectacular and really don't encourage you to leave the property. If you do decide to explore, Margaret is a wonderful source of information & advice.
There is a pool, trampoline, badminton set and a BBQ over looking the hills.
We would gladly go back here in a heartbeat and are kind of wishing we'd never left.
Thank you Margaret, you have created a wonderful home from home which we loved being a small part of for a short time.
Amazing holiday in Tuscany.
We could not have dreamed of a better place to relax with our kids than here. Margaret and her family were excellent hosts - always available to answer questions and help, but very respectful of guests' privacy. Her whole family was pleasant and a joy to be around. Great place for kids - plenty of space to run around and fun things to do outside. We'll be back when we can!
Perfect Tuscan Escape
A special holiday experience at this wonderful place. Our hosts Margaret, Maurizio and family couldn't have done more to ensure we were perfectly looked after, nothing was too much trouble. Our two super-active boys (1 & 3 yrs) adored the pool (safely fenced!), chickens, trampoline, tree house, swings, tractor, badminton, veggie patch, BBQ... the list goes on. The story of the property's restoration is inspiring and the location is fantastic for a balance of Tuscan adventure (not least in nearby Cortona) and well needed country air. Sunset with a local glass or 3, and fireflies was a great end to the day! Highly recommended.
A 750-year old beautifully appointed Tuscan villa about 15 minutes east of the town of Cortona – with charming hosts Margaret and Maurizio who ensure you feel like a part of their family. Magnificent views of the Tuscan hills, absolute peace and quiet – does it get any better?
Into the Cortona square to meet some locals and observe the passeggiata with our hosts. Cooking wood fired pizzas together, talking Brexit, EU and politics. This is why we came to Tuscany.
We used the villa as a base to visit towns like Spello, Gubbio, Bagni San Filippo and many other places in between. There are a few small restaurants that are a short driving distance, great for dinner or a beer overlooking the spectacular valley. We self-catered for breakfast in the well-appointed kitchen, with supermarkets available in Camucia, just down the hill from Cortona. The Camucia market is also very well stocked with all kinds of local fresh produce.
Having no TV meant that we could all do lots of reading, but fast WiFi is available for your use.
I cannot recommend this rental highly enough. Thanks Margaret and Maurizo for all your guidance and advice.
Such a great stay in Tuscany, beautiful settlement, very nice and helpful hosts Margaret and Maurizio. We stayed there for a week with our friends from Spain. Quercia apt.was just perfect for our two families, the property was clean and well maintained. We would recommend this place to anyone!

Coast/Beach: The closest beach is at Grosetto and takes a good two hours of driving. Travel: A rental car is essential in this area of Tuscany as public transport is scant. Perugia 60km. Firence 130km. Roma Fiumicino 250km. From Cortona: Keeping the ancient walls of Cortona on your right head on towards Citta di Castello. At Portole, keep to the right and continue for another 3.5km. At the number 15 blue and white road sign turn immediately right onto a white gravel track. Continue down the track until you come upon small brown barn in a field. You have arrived!
