We had a wonderful stay in Bugnara. Cass Rosa was just like the photos. A quaint quiet little town with spectacular views from the rooftop terrace.
Thank you for your lovely review, so glad that you had a good time and look forward to hearing from you again in the future. Joanna
Fantastic week in Abruzzo
Casa Rosa was a great place to immerse ourselves into the local culture. The people of Bugnara were welcoming and very friendly to us. Bar Gino is the place to be ! Joanna’s information about the local region was such a great source of amazing things to do and places to experience. We loved our stay at Casa Rosa ! Thanks so much !!
Thank you both very much for your lovely review. We are so glad that you had a great time at Casa Rosa and we feel very privileged and honoured that you chose Casa Rosa as your honeymoon destination, and congratulations to you both. Thank you again and hope to hear from you again in the future Joanna, Dave and Fay
A Bit of Heaven in Abruzzo
My family and I highly recommend Casa Rosa. Joanne is a perfect hostess - always communicative, easy to reach and thinking of her guests' convenience in advance of their arrival! Casa Rosa is the perfect getaway spot in a storybook village in one of the most beautiful and relatively undiscovered regions of Italy. The house is comfortable, light-filled and spacious, and has three outdoor levels as well as a rooftop terrace with gorgeous panoramic views of the mountains - a perfect place for an evening glass of wine! The house also has a little information center with a plethora of information and maps on the surrounding area, including nearby restaurants. The people of the village are warm and welcoming, especially at the bar in the center of town - say hello to Alberto for us if you go. He graciously gave us recommendations for places to eat in, and a map of, nearby Sulmona, a historic and scenic city. The location is close to many postcard pretty medieval hilltop villages and relatively close to the Adriatic coast - we visited Pinetto, which was an easy hour or so drive. Casa Rosa is also very close to two national parks that we visited - the Majella National Park and the Gran Sasso National Park. We also traveled to many other parts of Abruzzo which were well within striking distance. Our children loved Casa Rosa and Bugnaro, with all the little narrow alleyways and olive trees and the pets wandering around town. The word idyllic is overused but really, Casa Rosa is idyllic and we heartily recommend it for your next family vacation or romantic getaway! We hope to visit Casa Rosa again, soon! Richard and Jennifer S.
What a lovely review, thank you so much, and really glad that you all enjoyed your holiday at Casa Rosa, sounds as if you have fallen in love with, like us. We look forward to hearing from you in future, and thank you again for your marvellous review. Joanna & David
I loved it!
Great detached house, felt like it was my own holiday home, everything was there and Joanna answered all of my questions promptly and was a great help. Great real Italian Village with friendly locals.
Thank you very much for your review and look forward to hearing from you again soon. Joanna
This was our fourth visit to Casa Rosa, and once again we enjoyed our holiday immensely. It is so easy to book as Jo always replies immediately, so plans can be made straight away. We feel relaxed as soon as we get to Bugnara...it is easy to park near the house and then just a short walk to the front door, and because we have been several times, it is all so very familiar! Casa Rosa is spacious, comfortable and homely, it is well equipped with everything one needs and we feel at home the minute we get there! We love the garden, which has terraces on different levels, and so there is the choice between sun and shade. There are several garden tables, just right for enjoying a drink or meal outside. The roof terrace is lovely, with spectacular views, which we never tire of.
Bugnara is only a few minutes drive to the lovely town of Sulmona, and there are also many other lovely villages and towns nearby to visit. The motorway is only about 20 minutes drive away, so it is easy to visit places of interest a little further afield...we particularly enjoy visiting ancient archeological sites, old abbeys and museums...there is always something of interest somewhere nearby to see! We absolutely love it here and hope to go again soon!
This is far more than a holiday rental, it is a home. Thank you so much Jo, Dave and Fay for letting us stay at Casa Rosa.

Thank you ever so much for your lovely review, we are so glad that you love Casa Rosa and that you feel at home and can relax and really enjoy your holiday. Thank you again Jo, Dave and Fay
Bugnara is a small quiet traditional medieval village with all the amenities. It has a pizzeria which also does takeaway pizzas, a hotel with a restaurant, small bar, a bakery, two shops, a post office, a chemist, hairdresser, four churches, doctors surgery, a fishing pool and a children's playground. There is a regular bus service to the surrounding area, including Scanno and Sulmona. The village is very well situated, being only a few minutes drive from the motorway which links Rome to Pescara. Casa Rosa is a five minute drive away from Sulmona, which is an ancient city full of history. There you will find facilities such as supermarkets, shopping centres, bars, restaurants, museums, a theatre, cinema, sports complexes and railway station, in addition to many fine buildings, churches and parks. From Sulmona regular buses and trains take you into Rome, Pescara and the rest of Italy. Pescara Airport is the nearest being only a 40 minute drive away, Rome is 90 minutes, with Naples and Pompeii 2 hours away. Skiing nearby at Campo di Giove, Monte Pratello & Roccarasso, which are all 25 minutes drive away.
Other Activities: Bugnara, Sulmona & the surrounding villages have a large calendar of events, which include many festivals
Ski: Casa Rosa, Bugnara is a 25 minute drive away from Abruzzo ski resorts of Roccaraso, which is Italy third largest ski resort and the main ski resort in Abruzzo. Abruzzo has 15 ski resorts with 368 km of runs in 172 different ski tracks. The most popular resorts are Roccaraso, Pratello, Campo Felice, Campo Imperatore. Located on the highest altitudes of the Apennines, these ski areas are at heights nearly comparable to many resorts in the Alps. Because of their proximity to the Adriatic and winter precipitation patterns, they often have more snow than the Alps. Abruzzo also is popular for cross country skiing, especially on the high plain of Campo Imperatore in the Gran Sasso as well as the Piana Grande in the Majella.
About Joanna Mundy
We live in Ludlow, Shropshire with our seventeen year old daughter and visit our house at least four times a year and still haven't discovered all that this beautiful part of Abruzzo has to offer. We look forward to hearing from you and helping you in anyway that we can. Best wishes Jo and Dave Mundy
Joanna Mundy purchased this Villa in 2007
Why Joanna Mundy chose Bugnara
We were lucky enough to buy the villa Casa Rosa nine years ago, it hadn't been lived in for forty years, so we spent 2 years restoring it to its former glory. We have been renting it out about 9 years ago and in that short time we have had so much fun and had some lovely guests, some of whom have become firm friends.
What makes this Villa unique
Casa Rosa is completely unique it is a completely detached villa, complete with a garden, terraces and roof terrace, which has a 360 degree view of the village and surrounding countryside, but also in the middle of a quiet medieval village. So you can pop the village shops and bar whenever you want. We just fell in love with it and hope you do too!
