Located in one of the most popular Cotswolds market towns, Farthing Cottage is furnished and equipped to a high standard of comfort and style and retains much of its original character. Whether you want to eat out every night, snuggle up in front of the flickering flames of the log burner or enjoy a barbecue in the garden, this is the perfect place! The area is ideal for those who want to park the car and explore it by foot or bike and also ideal as a base for exploring the whole of the Cotswolds. With pretty Cotswolds villages with walking distance and popular towns such as Cheltenham, Stratford-upon-Avon and even Bath within driving distance, there are plenty of things to see and do in this wonderful area.
Cottage in Stow-on-the-Wold, Cotswolds, Gloucestershire, England - Quiet Location with Private Parking, just 2 Minutes from the Market Square
We fell in love with the Cotswold's and Stow in our twenties and after many visits, bought Honey Cottage and then Farthing Cottage. Both cottages are very special to us and we get a great deal of pleasure and satisfaction from people enjoying a holiday in our cottages and reading the lovely comments that are left by guests. Most of our holidays are taken in the UK either in Honey or Farthing Cottage or in other self-catering properties if we want a change of scenery! We are both very 'passionate' about self-catering and huge lovers of the Cotswold's as it suits our huge desire to eat, cycle and walk. Not forgetting sitting in front of the fire with a nice glass of red! We hope you enjoy staying in our cottages as much as we do and will do everything we can to make your stay enjoyable
Sarah purchased this Cottage in 2006
What makes this Cottage unique
We fell in love with Farthing Cottage from the moment we stepped through the front door and saw the abundance of beams, stone floors, fireplace and chunky Cotswolds stone walls. It is surprisingly spacious for a one bed property with a lovely large bedroom upstairs with vaulted ceiling (and more beams!) that add to the lovely sense of space, plus it has a garden to relax and off-road parking which is fairly rare in Stow. It offers the best of all worlds - a magical place where you can relax right in the heart of one of the Cotswolds most popular towns with everything on the doorstep.

Spent 3 nights in this charming cottage to have a little writing retreat and a quiet weekend away. It was so cosy and warm. And it happens to be the best equipped cottage I’ve stayed in - and I’ve been doing self-caters for years. Truly every detail has been considered - I just can’t get over it. Had a lovely fire and the fluffiest towels. I can’t wait to come back and spend another long weekend again.
Exceptional in So Many Ways
My husband and I spent two wonderful weeks at Farthing Cottage, and we could not have asked for more charming, comfortable, and convenient accommodations. The cottage itself has everything one could want, including an exceptionally well equipped kitchen. It was easy to cook full meals, not only because of the kitchen amenities, but because shopping for groceries was not more than a ten minute walk each way at either Tesco or the Co-op. In general, the location of the cottage is ideal: It's on a quiet, dead-end lane away from traffic and tourist activity but is only a block or two from the main attractions of Stow, including the many footpaths that are the start of beautiful walks in the countryside. We did not have a car, and we found that was no obstacle to enjoying the surrounding area of the Cotswolds. When we wanted to go further afield, there were convenient local buses that took us to more distant towns where we could explore and from which we could take additional walks. Stow itself is a lovely place in which to spend time, with lots of good pubs, interesting shops, and friendly people. From start to finish, our experience with Farthing Cottage was made even more enjoyable by its owner, Sarah, who was always responsive in the most helpful ways, as was the local housekeeper, Julie. We felt well taken care of and will remember our holiday at Farthing Cottage with great fondness. If we didn't live so far away in the States, we would definitely make it a regular retreat!
Hi Betty, I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Farthing Cottage. We love spending time there and having such lovely independent shops (and the convenience of Tesco's and Co-op) within strolling distance, plus excellent places for a meal out. I hope we get to welcome you again one year to Farthing Cottage.
Wonderful cottage. Has everything you would need for self catering. Great kitchen. Great locatio.
This is a wonderful cottage, perfect for 2 people. Very comfortable. Great location. For someone who wants to eat in the kitchen is well equipped. Owner is wonderful and very responsive. Will stay here again.
Hi Susan, thank you so much for taking the time to leave such nice feedback. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay. There's lots of great restaurants on the doorstep but it is nice to cook in as well or BBQ and enjoy eating outside.
We hope to welcome you again in the future.
excellant cottage we felt at home.
lovely cottage and well presented. owner(Sarah) was really helpful and gave us a lot of info regarding places to eat and visit. the yew trees at the back of the church door are a must see. Also the walk to the fox and a really nice Sunday roast is a must. great location would love to go back.
We ended our trip in England and Scotland at Farthing Cottage and it was perfect. The cottage is charming and comfortable and all the recommendations for restaurants and walks were spot on. We especially appreciated the firewood and starters that were there for us. Lighting the fireplace after our return from a long walk or dinner was our way of topping off a day. While we don't usually return to places, this may be our exception. We would love to spend even more time there although we did have five nights. If you are planning a trip to England, we encourage you to consider ending it with at least four days in ths charming spot. You will return from your vacation rested and restored.
The perfect romantic country getaway
We had a splendid long weekend staying at Farthing Cottage. It is just as described in its listing, but even better. The cottage is beautifully furnished and has a lovely relaxing, cosy feel to it. We loved the evenings in front of the log burner and thought the welcome basket of logs was very thoughtful. It was very easy to book the cottage and Sarah’s responses were quick and spot on. She provided us with a map, so it was easy to find the cottage – it is on a quiet street so be prepared to sleep well! We arrived late afternoon to find the lights and heating on plus a welcome tray of coffee/tea and snacks, which was a great touch. The attention to detail in the cottage is superb and we did not want for anything. It was spotlessly clean and there was lots of space in the kitchen to store provisions. The cottage is warm, the central heating works perfectly and the shower room has a great power shower.
Sarah also provided us with lots of information on the village and the area and we used that to plan our explorations. We were lucky with the weather and had wonderful crisp winter weather which was ideal for walking or relaxing. The village and surrounding areas are beautiful and really worth enjoying. We strongly recommend Farthing Cottage and hope to be back to perhaps enjoy the garden in summer.
I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay in Farthing Cottage and thank you for taking the time to leave such lovely feedback. We try to provide everything we can think of to enable guests to immediately start to relax, especially when on a short break with only a few nights away to enjoy yourself.
The shower room was newly fitted in 2014 and I am pleased you found the electric shower nice and powerful (it's actually not a power shower!).
We hope to welcome you at Farthing Cottage again in the future and many thanks once again.
