About Sam and Vicky

Sam and Vicky Elliott moved to Kerabellec in February 2015 from Eastbourne , just shortly after both his parents died and our two children having finished university were settled in jobs in England. ( We live on site in our own house )

Sam had spent the last 30 years working abroad in healthcare, whilst Vicky had been working in local schools in Eastbourne as a teaching assistant, cover supervisor , matron and a housekeeper. We decided that we needed to spend some time together after years of feeling like ships passing in the night . So we decided to make some time for ourselves and we found Kerabellec, where we walk our two small dogs every day and it is a wonderful place to live all year round with the birds, cows, deer and wildlife which still amaze us when they come in to the garden and we rush to pick up the binoculars. We hope that you enjoy Kerabellec as much as we do.

Sam and Vicky purchased this cottage in 2015

Why Sam and Vicky chose Baud

All four of our properties are in a fantastic location and very central to head out for the beaches , towns , eating or shopping with South facing aspects , which means that we have the sun all day on the complex. It is a bright, spacious complex but everybody still has their own privacy . Guests can take books or games from the site with a picnic and sit down by the river under the weeping willow tree, and there is a calm and peace that helps you to unwind from the usual hectic work/ school life .If you bring your wellingtons or paddling shoes, the river is only a few inches deep in the summer months and great for looking for habitats with the children paddling in the water. Or the younger children have space to ride bikes or skate. Le Pierrot has a double bedroom , and a twin bedroom which accommodates 3 single beds ( size of room approx. 14 feet by 14 feet ) , which is ideal for a family with children who are happy to share or a group of adults who are happy to share bedroom and bathroom space. Le Pierrot has a cosy family bathroom with bath , shower , toilet and sink . The cottage is very old and used to be the village bakery for Chapelle neuve . ( sleeps 5 ) La Faisane our other 2 bedroomed gite is fantastic for the less able guest , teenagers or 2 lots of coupled holidaying together because La Faisane has a double bedroom upstairs with an ensuite and the twin bedroom downstairs also with its own shower room .The doorway is also wide enough to accommodate wheelchair access and with an open plan style lounge, kitchen diner this gite is next to the swimming pool and great for a less able person.

L Hirondelle our 3 bedroomed gite with a double bedroom ensuite , 2 twin bedrooms and a second family bathroom is great for families bringing extra teenagers or grandparents . One of the sofas in the lounge area makes a double bed . La Alouette is absolutely great for two families wishing to holiday together and share the cost . ( sleeps 8 ) + sofa bed in the lounge

What makes this cottage unique

Kerabellec is fantastic for group bookings, where friends and families have the opportunity to all meet for a holiday together (as well as individual family holidays) as the complex sleeps 22/24 plus travel cots. All on one site everybody still has their own space and privacy.

Kerabellec is central for , beaches, towns , historical sights, markets , river kayaking , water sports golf and fishing all within 30 minutes or less on the fantastic French roads . Every gite is south facing . We do have wildlife here , with the red squirrel, birds of prey, the deer who come to the river at night for a drink and thousands of small birds and also the tiny little bats that fly around late at night ,so fantastic for the animal lover. There are some beautiful French towns really worth a visit such as Vannes , Auray, Josselin, Rennes and many more but especially Quimper which has a magnificent cathedral in the centre of the medieval town. For the beach lover you would really love Quiberon, Guidel , Lamor Plage , St Philbert , Trinite Sur Mer or the wild and rugged Nevez and Kerhillio suitable for dogs . For the bird lover the sea estuary of Nostang is a beautiful experience only 20 minutes from Kerabellec. If you love modern art then the chateaux and sculpture park just through Bignan is well worth a visit And it is FREE for you to go in to the art exhibitions . Kerabellec is only 15 minutes from Pont Augan where you can take your bikes and ride along the Blavet for miles. Kayaking is also available at this site and is great for an adult or family activity.

Notes on accommodation: The cottages have all been professionally renovated to a high standard and furnished and equipped very comfortably. All of the complex is suitable for families and group bookings. 20% Off your Brittany Ferry journey. La Faisane is suitable for the less able with a downstairs bathroom and bedroom Outside: This area of Brittany is very suitable for families, the peace and quiet of the countryside combined with easy access to the beaches of Southern Brittany. We have 3 acres of gardens and outside space, so there is always somewhere quiet to sit. During the school holidays we tend to have mostly family groups and the children make friends very quickly and share the play area. We also have a large field running down to the River Tarun, and we encourage noisy games such as football and cricket to be played on this. The river runs at the end of our property and our clients are welcome to fish, subject to purchasing the necessary permit from Baud.

Lovely countryside gite, with super helpful owners

  • 5 of 5

Our stay with Vicky and Sam was perfect. Location was ideal for our young family and close to all the idyllic beaches and towns. Gite was well equipment, clean and the amenities on site where loved by our 3 year old. Would have no hesitations in recommending. Thanks again Vicky and Sam for a great week.

Owner's Response: Hi Damian and Catherine It was great to see you head off for the beach in September and to experience some of this Morbihan region with your young children. Fantastic to see you just chill out and relax and enjoy the peace here at Kerabellec after your busy work schedules, and venture in to the pool on the warmer days . The pool cover does help to keep the wind off the swimmers . We hope that Connie is feeling a little better after struggling with a cough . It was a pleasure to meet you all and you are very welcome here at Kerabellec , should you decide to venture this way again. Very best wishes Vicky and Sam

Lovely place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

From the point of inquiry through to our return home, Vicky and Sam were incredibly helpful and considerate hosts.

Our family stayed in La Faisane. It was clean, comfortable, well equipped and well presented. The photographs are accurate and a very good representation of the gites and outside areas.

What the photos can’t convey is how much fun was had in the pool (yes, in early April) and in the garden with the play equipment, the lovely walks around the local lanes, the sound of the river and bird song in the garden and how nice it was to eat dinner in the sunshine.

We found the location suited us beautifully. There is an awful lot to discover within a radius of an hours drive; we only really scratched the surface in a weeks stay. Vicky has a wealth of knowledge regarding places to visit and there is plenty of up to date information available in the cottages. That is of course if you can tear yourself away from the relaxing environment of the gites!

Owner's Response: Hi Emma, Graham and Millie It was great to meet you all and you were super guests to have stay here at Kerabellec. Thank you so much for the English bacon and the Pollock, which both taste fantastic, and also for leaving your gite so clean after your departure. Yes you are right , a week just scratches the surface really as there are so many places to stimulate everybody interests , and also only 30 minutes from the beaches . I think April or May with all the flowers and blossoms are a great time to visit this area and we hope to see you again in the future . Best wishes Vicky and Sam

Wonderfully relaxing holiday in Brittany

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderfully relaxing two week stay at L'Hirondelle. The first impression was of how immaculate the rooms were with great attention to detail in the decor. Vicky and Sam were extremely welcoming and when we arrived late after a Eurotunnel delay greeted us with much needed beer and wine. They were helpful throughout the visit with everything from suggestions for places to visit or eat to sorting out a vet appointment prior to our return.

The property is very dog friendly, Sam and Vicky having two themselves, which made a huge difference to us and our Jack Russell Maya. They were happy for us to leave Maya for short periods while we went off running or for bike rides through local farmland and woods which would also be great for walking. The pool is a great asset and has a cover making it good for all weather swimming.

I would not hesitate to recommend this a place for couples or families.

Best family holiday ever

  • 5 of 5

Simply lovely tranquillity in France. Sam & Vicky are great hosts - on hand when call for, but off the scene otherwise. The gite & surroundings were in perfect order, the pool clean, and the nearby Town (Baud) an easy 10 min drive away, for supplies & wonderful Crepe. Planning on a return next year.

Gorgeous Escape

  • 5 of 5

We booked this cottage while I was training for a half marathon with our kids. The travel from Paris was beautiful and we were excited to stay in a quiet location with a pool. The owner's showed us plenty of places to walk and incredible nearby towns for day ventures. We spent our days running in the countryside, swimming in the pool and playing in the gorgeous garden. Each morning we woke up and headed to a local bakery for fresh croissants.

The cottage itself was incredible. We had a lovely kitchen as well as a living room the kids loved to play in. There was plenty of sleeping room upstairs for us and the kids in their separate room and at night we would sit out on the patio and enjoy the stars.

The countryside is full of scenery and animals with many accessible day trips including an outdoor modern art park and lots of sea side towns.

The cottage itself is really clean as is the pool and garden. The owners work hard to make sure you feel comfortable and provide help whenever needed. We would return again and again.

This is truly France at its best.

Coast/Beach:

The closest beaches are around Carnac - about 35 minutes on easy roads by car. Worth travelling another five minutes for are the beaches on Western side of the Quiberon peninsular where there is a wealth of water sport, including wind-surfing, kite-surfing, surfing and sand-surfing! The waters on the eastern side of the peninsular are calmer for young families. A favourite beach with our clients is at Kerhilio just at the base of the peninsular, also Guidel, Lamor plage , Trinite Sur Mer . Just ask us for any additional ideas and places to go .

Travel:

Our nearest airport is at Rennes (just over an hour by car) Flights from the UK also come into Nantes Dinard Lorient and Brest. July and August flights from Stanstead to Lorient only 30 minutes from Kerabellec. The nearest ferry ports are at Roscoff and St Malo, each about two hours drive away. Caen is under three hours by car and Cherbourg three and half hours. The drive from the Tunnel terminal at Calais takes six hours but there are lots of service and toilet areas to rest.Your own transport is essential when staying here.

Distances:

Our nearest town is Baud, with a good selection of small shops, and some excellent bakers. There are three supermarkets and several good restaurants. La Chapelle Neuve is our closest village - a twenty minute walk away - and has a small shop. For serious shopping there is a hypermarket in Lorient. There are excellent markets locally - one almost every day in Vannes, or Auray, Carnac or Pontivy or Hennebont. There is also a small market in Baud on Saturdays. Rennes also has some great shops.

Further Details:

All Gites are None Smoking, however outside smoking is permitted & ashtrays can be supplied. We keep a basket in each cottage with recommendations for local restaurants and tourist guides to what's on in the area. We ask guests to add to the basket with the things that they have most enjoyed doing. There are several interesting towns in the area, notably Josselin with its historic castle, and Vannes with its medieval streets. Quimper with its cathedral . Rennes a university town and great architecture .

For those who love second hand bargains , visit the TROC AND PUCE ( Boot sales ) all over brittany . We are region 56 Morbihan so check out on line or ask Vicky and Sam
