About the property

FR5167

This lovely converted barn in the delightful village of Salignac is in easy walking distance of the village amenities and yet is peaceful and private. The barn is divided into a romantic 1 bedroom cottage (including a 4-poster bed, with views of the medieval chateau), and a spacious 2 bedroom cottage with many original features. If both gites are required, the soundproof adjoining door can be unlocked. Each cottage is self-contained, with its own private patio, and joint access to the garden and pool. Each has all modern conveniences, including central heating and satellite TV, but keeps the character with exposed beams and stonework, and rustic furniture. There are lovely views all around - across the medieval village, the garden and pool, and to the chateau and beyond. This beautiful area of France has something to offer everyone - prehistoric cave paintings, medieval chateaux, beautiful gardens, pilgrimage spots, outdoor activities, cultural events, food and wine.

About Julie Dodd

My husband and I have been lucky enough to travel a lot through his work, but we felt we needed a place of our own. As he comes from the North of England and I am from the South we felt we needed to buy in neutral territory - and what better place than this lovely corner of France!

Julie Dodd purchased this in 2004

Guestbook comments from the owner

We were very honoured to be your first guests at the Gite - the first of very many to come. We loved the house, its beams and furniture, and appreciated how well it is equipped - especially having the TV which allowed us to watch some Wimbledon finals. Tony and Gay Ridley, July 2008

Peaceful, Quiet and Lovely Location

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at this cottage. It is located in a lovely quiet location and the facilities are first class. There are nice walks in and around the village location with a Super Market and other small shops within walking distance. We spent a lot of our time either sitting around the pool or visiting nearby towns and villages. There were English speaking caretakers on sight which was a bonus and gave us local knowledge of the area. We found a Restaurant called the Black Duck about 2 miles away which we found first class. All in all we had a superb holiday and hope to return next year.

Blissful

  • 5 of 5

This was our 2nd time here and it was once again delightful. The cottage is well laid out and spacious. It is very comfortable and well equipped .

It has a wonderful pool which comes in handy because the weather in this part of France is frequently lovely and hot!

Salignac is a great little village which is centrally located in the Perigord Noir, lots of things to see within an hour's travel from the cottage. Whether you are looking for history or activity you will not be disappointed.

R and R

The gite was lovely, it was clean and well equipped. We have visited this area before and there are plenty of things to do but this time with temperatures in the high thirties every day we were happy to to just chill by the pool. Just a short stroll to the village and you can buy everything you need for self catering. We enjoyed an early morning trip to Sarlat market and a wander around the farmers market at Salignac for local produce. We enjoyed drinks at the hotel bar and the Cafe de la Place and also had a very enjoyable lunch at Duo, the new restaurant in the village. Keep an eye out for events in neighbouring villages we were sorry we missed the Boney M tribute concert but had great fun trying to name their hits without looking on the internet. The gite was perfect for a really relaxing holiday but would equally suit the more energetic as a base for canoeing and sightseeing etc.

Fabulous

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in numerous places all over France and this was absolutely the best ever

Great location in great village with shops, bars and restaurant all within easy walking distance

The gite itself was the best equipped we have ever stayed in, proper hob, decent fridge freezer, lots of utensils and condiments provided

Flat screen TV with Sky great for catching up on Wimbledon

Bedroom was spacious with lovely views and bathroom was great, with separate shower

Really thoughtful to provide liquid soap in the bathroom and pool towels

It was so very clean throughout

If we had any complaints it would be that there was not much hanging space for clothes other than that perfect
