Villa in Msambweni, South Coast, Kenya - Sweeping Views of Indian Ocean
We are a family who used to live in Kenya and have left part of our hearts there. We bought this wonderful plot in 1988 and have enjoyed endless happy times there. Today, our three sons are involved with maintaining and running it - a legacy they too will hand down. All we want is for other people to share our love of a unique and beautiful part of the world.
Why Owner chose Msambweni
We bought this wonderful piece of Kenya coast because of our love for this part of the world, and because Kenya is part of our lives.
What makes this Villa unique

Excellent location, excellent staff. This is an old house, but this is what give it it's charm! Some pesky sand flies on the beach and by the pool, so be sure to spray before you head out.
This is an amazing place. It's our second time there and we had a great time. It's about 45 minutes south of the Ukunda airport and that is a good thing. Very few people on the beach and the beach is MAGNIFICENT.
The house help is also amazing. Great cooks and great service.
Make sure you wear insect repellant or clothing that fully covers you in the morning on the beach because there are sand flies whose bites last at least a month. Taking care of this is fairly easy though and shouldn't be a deterrent to renting this beautiful place.
Many thanks Mark,
We are so glad that you enjoyed your 2nd trip to Jinchini.
Hopefully we can welcome you back again!

The property and view is even more beautiful than advertised.
The house is beautifully placed directly on the ocean for an outstanding view and constant ocean breezes. The care and attention to detail provided by Kassim and the staff was outstanding. The meals were out of this world delicious and creative. Our group of 7 (2 children) really enjoyed the pool in the morning and the beach in the afternoon. We had an awesome experience at Jinchini and would highly recommend it. Asante Sana.
We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Jinchini and glad that you were well looked after by Kassim and the team. You are welcome back anytime.
Old Coast house filled with simplicity and charm while cared for by wonderful house staff.
It was such a pleasure to spend time in a true Kenya 'coast' house with its spaciousness and simplicity with all you need without being fussy - all reminiscent of an earlier era. It was a joy to be there and a tonic for the spirit to relax in the garden looking out on the Indian Ocean and the fishermen quietly going about their business - having seen many of the world's tropical coast lines none in my view are a patch on those of the east African coast with its palms, casuarina trees and constant monsoon breeze. Congratulations on keeping Jinchini's character, charm and comfort.
Kassim, Suleiman, Omari and the 'askaris' looked after us all with great care, thoughtfulness and diligence. They could not have done more to make us more welcome and cared for. We felt extremely privileged. Omari’s cooking excelled and it was a delight to have fresh Indian Ocean fish every day!.
We are so pleased you enjoyed our secret piece of magic - with its beauty and tranquil peace that is timeless. We hope others may wish to come and sample the hospitality provided by our wonderful team in a safe and friendly part of Kenya's tropical coast.
We loved our time at the beautiful Jinchini beach house. The property is perfectly situated with a pool and beachfront access. The food is delicious, the staff is very well trained and helpful. We loved it and look forward to going back someday soon.
The Kenyan coast at its very best
It is impossible to sum up what an incredible fortnight we spent at Jinichini. It is a beautiful and peaceful location with so much to offer. It is very private yet with the beach at the end of the garden, just metres from the house. A truly stunning place to stay. We were looked after incredibly well - all our meals were freshly prepared and utterly delicious, eaten with the gently lapping ocean in the background. Paradise.
We had a wonderful holiday and found it very difficult to leave.
Special interest holidays:
Snorkelling, swimming and dhow trips to the reef can be enjoyed from the house. Within a 30 minute drive is Diani Beach where one can scuba dive, kite-surf, windsurf, extreme water sports, camel ride, play tennis and deep sea fish. The best bill fishing for the serious fisherman is at Shimoni - some 45 mintues' drive south to Shimoni at the Pemba Channel Fishing Club. A short distance into the interior is the beautiful green and forested Shimba Hills National Park where elephant, buffalo and the famous sable antelope can be found. Tsavo East and
other Kenya game parks all easily available by light plane or car.
The magnificent sight of the Indian Ocean is ever-present. Msambweni beach is secluded with few people other than the fishermen who go out in their dhows every morning. The sand is firm for ball games and building castles and the rock pools at low tide with their shells and small fish are ideal for small people to find treasures.
There are regualar international scheduled and charter flights into Mombasa. There is an airstrip at Diani for internal flights.
Cars can be hired either chauffeur or self-driven and can be arranged when booking. The drive from the airport is through Mombasa island, over the Likoni ferry and then on the tarmac main road to Tanzania. The journey takes about an hour. A map can be provided or a driver provided.
Msambweni is 35 miles south of Mombasa. There is a turn-off sign. The house is beyond the village of Msambweni. A map can be provided.
Diani - half way between Mombasa and Msambweni - has modern supermarkets and one can stock up here for wine and spirits. Banks with ATM machines are here.
Msambweni town has essentials. The house will have basic supplies on arrival - fish, vegetable and fruit, beers and sodas, bread, coffee, tea etc
Fresh fish, lobster etc. is brought to the back door by local traders, as are fruit and vegetables. Traders also like to come to the back door with baskets, carvings and kikois.
There is a modern hospital in Diani with latest facilities. Msambweni is a malaria area and anti-malarials need to be taken.
