A winding road through the southern part of the Snowdonia National Park leads you into the Dovey (Dyfi) Forest to a secluded longhouse called Maesywerngoch.
A luxurious yet laidback holiday home, Maesywerngoch has no neighbouring properties. Whilst keeping elements of the longhouse's 300 year-old charm such as its original wood beams, slate floors and thick stone walls, we have completely restored and expanded Maesywerngoch to include 6 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms and spacious common areas.
Accompanying the longhouse are several acres of lovingly maintained gardens with streams, ponds, footbridges and waterfalls. Enjoy wandering through the garden viewing the many varieties of rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias, roses and clematis.
Maesywerngoch has been a mainstay in our own family for over 40 years. To keep this tradition, we have worked to create a perfect space for multigenerational family holidays, with intimate yet spacious living areas filled with high-end furnishings. Maesywerngoch is kept cosy year round by a delightful pillar box red AGA in the kitchen and wood burning stoves in each of the three sitting rooms.
Floor to ceiling glass doors open up fully in both the 'barn' and 'stables', now a large open-planned sitting room and dining room to enjoy the velvety views of the valley and gardens.
Maesywerngoch is a perfect base for walkers and amblers of all abilities. We are spoilt for choice with walks directly from the property including a stretch of the wonderful Wales Coastal Path that runs through the forest.
A favourite activity for our family and friends with small children is walking the many miles of Welsh paths picking blackberries for a crumble! Adults enjoy it just as much.
Now that our children our teenagers, it seems only these walks can pull them away from their video games. We think it will have the same effect on your family! But not to worry-we do provide modern technologies like large flatscreen TV's in two sitting rooms and free WiFi throughout the house.
Other child-friendly activities include crabbing from the pier at Aberdovey Beach, cycling though the forest on Cycle route 8, tent camping in the front garden, playing badminton on the front lawn and gazing at the stars on a clear night and bird watching.
Maesywerngoch sleeps 10 adults in beds and 2 children in the bunk beds and 2 babies in travel cot and proper cot.
High chairs and put up beds available.
The forestry road to the house may have a few shallow pot holes. There is a short section of our driveway that may be unsuitable for low slung sports cars with low profile tyres.
As team leader you will be the STAR for choosing Maesywerngoch as your holiday destination. Inquire now.

About Susan Harrison
Maesywerngoch was purchased in 1974 from the Forestry commission. The extensive gardens were created by my mother in law over many, many years. This house then passed to her son Nicholas, my husband. We have continued her work by renovating the house to a luxurious standard.
Susan Harrison purchased this House in 1970
Why Susan Harrison chose Pennal
Maesywerngoch has passed down from one generation to the next. We enjoy the secluded location and beautiful views over the valley while still only a short drive to the seaside town of Aberdovey or the market town of Machynlleth. Our children who are now teenagers have enjoyed visiting this fantastic house and grounds since they were babies.
What makes this House unique
Maesywerngoch has no neighbouring houses so is in an extremely quiet location with only the sounds of the waterfalls or the occasional hoot of an owl. We enjoy the many walking paths throughout the valley and picking blackberries in August. Star gazing on a clear night is stunning. more photos at www.walescottageholiday.com.

Fabulous property in the most idillic surroundings
The property is stunning and the location is breath taking. Everything is catered for within the house, the thought and attention to detail is amazing of all the houses we have ever stayed at. The house is beautifully clean and the beds so comfy. If you want a complete get away hidden away in the forest with magnificent views and walks then this is the place for you. The owner was so helpful and informative on every aspect of our stay. Loved every minute.
Thank you very much for your lovely review of your stay at Maesywerngoch. We are so pleased that you all enjoyed the house, gardens, views and complete quiet. I do hope that you can come back when the gardens are in full bloom. Susan
Beautifully furnished relaxing house
The location is stunning and so beautiful to sit in the garden listening to the birds and the stream. The house itself is magnificently furnished and a great range of different rooms to relax in and a great kitchen to cook in too. The owner was so attentive and helpful too. Can’t recommend this house highly enough and already looking for a reason to visit again.
Beautiful long house in the wilds of Snowdonia
The location of this house was perfect for our Christmas family gathering. It is surrounded by streams, forests and mountains but only 15 minutes by car into the nearest town. Peaceful and quiet with no neighbors close by.
The house lived up to all our expectations. Large, Stylish, modern and clean in a traditional building, set in wonderful scenery. The house had been beautifully decorated with 2 very large real Christmas trees. The house was stunningly furnished and very clean with plenty of towels provided for our use.
Terry, the caretaker, was fantastic . A real gem who can problem solve and who has the social and communication skills to welcome all visitors. We had a slight problem with the heating which Terry fixed in no time at all. He also gave us tips on where to visit and which were the best routes to take. The gardens were huge and beautiful and we especially enjoyed watching the birds feed on the feeder at the front of the house. We and our dog also enjoyed the many varied walks around the house. The welcome hamper was a lovely touch and was really appreciated. We will definitely be coming back to Maesywerngoch.

Everything you could wish for
Maesywerngoch is a thoroughly relaxing and spacious home in an idyllic setting. it is secluded with all the comforts you require- space to chill, relax, socialise, snuggle and indulge. Be prepared for an adventurous road trip to get there and then gasp at the location, the views and the solitude. A wet but glorious week at the end of October, highly rated by Fudge (the dog) and enjoyed by all.
Thank you very much for taking the time to write your lovely review. We are so pleased that you and your party enjoyed the large gardens, solitude and spacious house. We look forward to welcoming you back to Maesywerngoch soon. Susan
5 star experience in every way possible
This was our second rental and we are returning again next year. This home has everything one would want and more.
Thank you for your kind review.
We are so pleased that you and your party enjoyed your second stay at Maesywerngoch - ‘Snowdonia’s Secret Stay’.
We look forward to welcoming you again next year.
The property was outstanding. Perfectly equipped for every eventuality. VERY remote tho.
Stunning property in beautiful grounds; ideal for celebrating Mum's 80th birthday with 8 adults and 4 young children. Susan was incredibly helpful in the run up to our holiday, readily proving information and advice to make our stay perfect. Couldn't fault the property; everything you could possibly need was provided, and everything was of great quality. Few issues with low water pressure meaning loo flushing was a slight problem. The midges were a nightmare and seemed immune to all the sprays and potions we'd brought so this put paid to meals outside in the balmy evenings. Despite us being a hardy lot, the midges won!
We were glad we'd stocked up on provisions but had to make a good few trips to Machyllneth for food shopping as the kids ate us out of house and home. Fair old journey so it's well worth ensuring to take lots of food with you.
Had a superb meal at the Riverside Hotel in Pennal again, due to Susan's recommendation.
We took advantage of the great weather and spent a day at Aberdyfi beach which was perfect.
So, in all, a really lovely few days at Maesywerngoch which we'd highly recommend and envy those lucky enough to spend Christmas here!
The superb sandy beaches of Aberdovey, Tywyn, Barmouth and Borth are a short to medium drive from the house.
Manchester and Birmingham airports are a 2.5 hour drive away.
Our local village of Pennal is 3 miles away. The market town of Machynlleth is a 10-15 minute drive. King Arthur's Labyrinth, Corris Craft Centre and The Centre for Alternative Technology are all around 10 minutes away.
The beautiful seaside town of Aberdovey is a 20 min drive away.
The Riverside restaurant is located in Pennal, a 5 min drive away, do book ahead for this popular venue.
In Machynlleth you will find a large Co-Op supermarket. A wonderful butcher shop called William Lloyd Williams and Son is located next to the HSBC and the Wynnstay Arms across the street offers lovely lunches and good beer. There is a delightful deli called Blasau around the corner. Market day is Wednesday. Aberdovey has several pubs including The Penhelig Arms, The Britannia, and the Dovey Inn. There are many brochures at the house detailing all activities in the area.
