A winding road through the southern part of the Snowdonia National Park leads you into the Dovey (Dyfi) Forest to a secluded longhouse called Maesywerngoch.

A luxurious yet laidback holiday home, Maesywerngoch has no neighbouring properties. Whilst keeping elements of the longhouse's 300 year-old charm such as its original wood beams, slate floors and thick stone walls, we have completely restored and expanded Maesywerngoch to include 6 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms and spacious common areas.

Accompanying the longhouse are several acres of lovingly maintained gardens with streams, ponds, footbridges and waterfalls. Enjoy wandering through the garden viewing the many varieties of rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias, roses and clematis.

Maesywerngoch has been a mainstay in our own family for over 40 years. To keep this tradition, we have worked to create a perfect space for multigenerational family holidays, with intimate yet spacious living areas filled with high-end furnishings. Maesywerngoch is kept cosy year round by a delightful pillar box red AGA in the kitchen and wood burning stoves in each of the three sitting rooms.

Floor to ceiling glass doors open up fully in both the 'barn' and 'stables', now a large open-planned sitting room and dining room to enjoy the velvety views of the valley and gardens.

Maesywerngoch is a perfect base for walkers and amblers of all abilities. We are spoilt for choice with walks directly from the property including a stretch of the wonderful Wales Coastal Path that runs through the forest.

A favourite activity for our family and friends with small children is walking the many miles of Welsh paths picking blackberries for a crumble! Adults enjoy it just as much.

Now that our children our teenagers, it seems only these walks can pull them away from their video games. We think it will have the same effect on your family! But not to worry-we do provide modern technologies like large flatscreen TV's in two sitting rooms and free WiFi throughout the house.

Other child-friendly activities include crabbing from the pier at Aberdovey Beach, cycling though the forest on Cycle route 8, tent camping in the front garden, playing badminton on the front lawn and gazing at the stars on a clear night and bird watching.

Maesywerngoch sleeps 10 adults in beds and 2 children in the bunk beds and 2 babies in travel cot and proper cot.

High chairs and put up beds available.

The forestry road to the house may have a few shallow pot holes. There is a short section of our driveway that may be unsuitable for low slung sports cars with low profile tyres.

Why Susan Harrison chose Wales

Maesywerngoch has passed down from one generation to the next. We enjoy the remote location and beautiful views over the valley while still only a short drive to the seaside town of Aberdovey or the market town of Machynlleth.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Maesywerngoch has no neighbouring houses so is in an extremely quiet location with only the sounds of the waterfalls or the occasional hoot of an owl. We enjoy the many walking paths throughout the valley and picking blackberries in August. Star gazing on a clear night is stunning.

We booked Maesywerngoch for a family party in late January 2017. The assistance provided by the owners in terms of directions etc., was second to none, and the house did not disappoint. It oozed character and charm, and felt homely from the minute we arrived. The house is set amongst landscaped gardens in a remote and beautiful area of mid wales and the children had an amazing time exploring the garden and streams etc. I can honestly say that the whole family had a wonderful stay and would not hesitate to book here again.

“Perfect accommodation and location” 10th - 18th April 2017

13 of us in total, 8 adults, 5 children and 2 dogs all to celebrate our golden wedding anniversary. What a fantastic place, brilliant location and spacious accommodation. The house itself was so well equipped with everything you needed, was spotlessly clean and great layout. The surrounding area, great for walking and we all had so much fun in the large garden with our Easter Egg Hunt. Could go on and on about this place. As for the owner Susan Harrison, she could not have been more helpful and attentive.

A fantastic property hidden away in the beatiful Welsh mountains.

Perfect long weekend getaway with a big group of friends and family; dog-friendly which was ideal for us. Plenty of well-appointed and comfortable accommodation for everyone and a decent, well-stocked kitchen that made for some lovely group meals.

Organising our visit was very easy - Susan the owner and Terry the property manager were on hand to answer any questions we had and provided us with plenty of information about the house and surrounding area before, and during out stay.

Absolutely superb!

Wow! What can we say about our stay? We only had a long weekend but wished we had more time... Our party, 3 families - 9 adults, 1 teen, an 8 month old baby and a dog had a fabulous time. There is so much space that we just didn't get in each other's way - everyone was able to find a little peace and quiet when they wanted it and there was more than enough room when we were all together. We wish the weather had been a little kinder (misty on day 1, clearing on day 2 and amazing on day 3 - the day we were leaving), but it didn't detract from the sheer beauty of this place. If you are looking for somewhere where you can more or less disengage from the real world in comfort, then this is the place for you.

There are 3 wifi routers and a landline so you are not truly out of touch, although mobiles don't work. One of our party works internationally and found that the wifi connection was more than enough for him to be able to work with no problems.

The "cottage" is beautifully appointed - lovely bathrooms, soft, comfortable beds, plenty of seating, a very efficient kitchen and lots of little extras such as salt, pepper, dishwasher tablets, hand soap, plenty of wood and starters for the fires etc. There's even a bread maker if you're so inclined.

The communication with Susan, the owner was extremely quick and plentiful, and she was more than happy to deal with my sometimes rather daft questions.

We had plans to visit some of the local area and restaurants, we really did... but we never got there - we were too comfortable relaxing in this beautiful property!

Our dog, a very active Eurasier had great time disappearing into the bushes and reappearing in some very odd places! He probably has a far better idea of the surrounding property than we ever discovered.

We loved this place so much most of the party were asking when we could re-book before we even left. Let's hope that our schedules work next year!

SUPER PROPERTY IN THE DOVEY VALLEY

This is an excellent spacious, comfortable property in beautiful surroundings. Highly suitable for dogs. Very good for long walks. The property was clean well-maintained and very well equiped. Customer service was excellent and I highly recommend the property to anyone who likes country peace and quiet but there are also lots of things to do in the surrounding area

Excellent Stay

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The house is in a very secluded and peaceful location. The size of the house is perfect for large groups and it has beautiful gardens which our children (and us) all enjoyed. We are going back again for New Year and would recommend to anyone.

Marvellous house, beautiful location

We stayed at Maesywerngoch for a weekend to celebrate my mum's 70th birthday, the ages of our party ranging from 17-70 plus a dog. Everyone had a fantastic time - the house is warm, welcoming, spacious and well equipped, with comfy furniture, fab decor and beautiful views. The grounds are marvellous and well kept, with a mixture of lawns, streams and ponds surrounded by woodland. There are lots of interesting walks starting from the house and some fantastic looking bike tracks. The place is beautifully secluded - we didn't see a soul all weekend.

Manchester and Birmingham airports are a 2.5 hour drive away.

Our local village of Pennal is 3 miles away. The market town of Machynlleth is a 10-15 minute drive. King Arthur's Labyrinth, Corris Craft Centre and The Centre for Alternative Technology are all around 10 minutes away.

The beautiful seaside town of Aberdovey is a 20 min drive away.

The Riverside restaurant is located in Pennal, a 5 min drive away, do book ahead for this popular venue.

Further Details:

In Machynlleth you will find a large Co-Op supermarket. A wonderful butcher shop called William Lloyd Williams and Son is located next to the HSBC and the Wynnstay Arms across the street offers lovely lunches and good beer. There is a delightful deli called Blasau around the corner. Market day is Wednesday. Aberdovey has several pubs including The Penhelig Arms, The Britannia, and the Dovey Inn. There are many brochures at the house detailing all activities in the area.
