Farmhouse near Carrouges, Orne, Normandy, France - Peaceful Location, Set Amongst The French Countryside, Five Minutes Away From Local Village
Why Philippa Cubitt-Bright chose Saint-Sauveur-de-Carrouges
We came to this region on various occasions on holiday. We liked the pace of life and the simplicity of day to day living and decided to jump in and have an adventure. The beauty of the area was another positive factor in promoting the Normandy region. The local French people are very friendly and welcoming. The local markets selling local produce and general buzz of village life is quaint and Traditional. The house is set amongst the rolling countryside within a tiny hamlet and is very peaceful and serene. Offering that get away from it all atmosphere. However there are big towns about 30 minutes away if one finds country life to quiet.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
The property offers a peaceful get away from it all atmosphere. The large garden looking out over rolling French countryside is very therapeutic and relaxing. There are area's on the property offering sun and shade and the garden is big enough to get away and be on your own. The heated swimming pool offers a refreshing dip when the heat gets too much. Later in the evening you can sit by the pool and sip some good French wine and watch the fantastic sun sets that this area offers.

I took a while to find the right property for a family holiday for 8 adults and 4 children with a pool....a proper, full sized heated pool. So many just had the stand up ‘pretend’ pools, not suitable for the children who swim and dive like fishes! This property is awesome! Pippa and Gary were perfect hosts, communicative and on hand if you needed them. The quality of the accommodation is first class, well equipped with everything you could need for lots of people and very comfortable beds 👍 The Gables bedroom and bathroom is connected by an internal door to the rest of the property and was a fabulous room for us. The garden is HUGE, with so many outdoor games for the children (and adults!) and Gary even dropped a swingball set into the garden for us one day! Great bbq area under the trees and a large table by the pool, big enough for everyone. Overall a lovely place to stay, highly recommended (we will be back!). Only one minus point... the sunbeds are very hard, pads would be an added bonus although there are plenty of pads for all chairs provided. Thank you Pippa and Gary, fabulous holiday enjoyed by everyone.
What a marvelous spot in the country! We thoroughly enjoyed staying here. Pippa & Gary couldn’t have been nicer. The House was spotless and everything was perfect. I highly recommend to anyone who wants a peaceful getaway in a central location in Normandy!
Thank you so much Tom for a lovely review and we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay at our Farmhouse. Hopefully one day soon, we might see you out here again with your family for a longer stay. Best regards Pippa & Gary
Lovely farmhouse with fabulous garden
This is a fabulous property that caters for large groups or families. Our group of 11 people (6 adults and 5 children) thoroughly enjoyed the property. The garden provided endless enjoyment for the children. The hosts were exceptionally kind keeping the swimming pool open for us at the end of October. It will certainly be a long term memory for us swimming in the pool on a beautiful autumn day. The football goals, trampoline and ping pong table all provided entertainment for our children (and adults!). The Gables bedroom provided a perfect get away from it all atmosphere for the grandparents - waking up to beautiful views over the garden and Normandy countryside. Pip and Gary are extremely friendly hosts and go the extra mile to make your stay enjoyable. We would certainly recommend this property.
Dear Jane, we hope you had a good journey home yesterday and hope the sea wasn't quite as choppy as on your way out :-) Thank you for such a wonderful review and making the end of our Summer/Autumn season such a pleasure and leaving the house so lovely and clean. We hope to see you again one day in the future. Wishing you all the very best Pip and Gary
Beautiful farmhouse in quiet location with fabulous private garden and pool
We consisted of 4 couples aged from mid fifties to seventy and had a wonderful holiday together in this property from 19/8/17 - 26/8/17. The hamlet of La Drutiere is off a quiet D road with the house at the bottom end overlooking countryside and we loved the fact that there was no traffic noise. The house was beautifully presented on our arrival with fresh cut flowers in a couple of the rooms and a french stick, marmalade, a bottle pear cider and cheese awaiting us in the kitchen. We were lucky with the weather so spent a lot of time outside. The pool area was delightful and we made use of it every day. On the second day the pool was a little cold but as Pippa and Gary were in a house next door they quickly rectified this for us and it was a perfect temperature for the rest of the week. We also enjoyed the separate BBQ area and had fun with the table tennis and trampoline. At one point a game of penalty shoot out was going on in the children's size goal! There were six bedrooms but we chose to stick to our usual group of four holiday couples which worked very well as when we weren't eating outside we could all be easily seated round the farmhouse table in the kitchen. Each day we did a bit of exploring of the surrounding area and, on request, Pippa and Gary kindly supplied bikes when a couple of us went cycling. It's hard to find fault with this property, we had such a good time. However, if I'm being picky, one of our group with a bad back struggled to find a sufficiently comfortable mattress in the farmhouse. She checked the twin bedded room at the front of the house and the two smaller doubles but none of them offered the support that she needed, the rest of us were fine so I think this is only going to be an issue for those with back problems. The large gable room had the most fabulous view and the couple using it described it as being 'great for the soul' as they looked out on the star filled sky at night. Pippa, Gary and their daughter were very friendly, as was their little dog which frequently found a way to visit us but as he was well behaved we enjoyed his company. Thank you for a wonderful holiday, much fun and laughter was had by all.
Perfect family getaway, lovely gardens and plenty of character
We recently had a week long stay in this fantastic property. We took our 2 young children (6 year old and 8 months old) and both sets of grandparents also came (8 people in total) and we were spoilt for space and choice of rooms. The house itself was spacious and well equipped whilst maintaining its farmhouse character. The outside space was the part we loved the most as it was perfect for our 6 year old, there was so much space for him to let off steam and plenty of things to do (trampoline, climbing frame, table tennis, swimming, football)...he absolutely loved it. The owners were very helpful and friendly and had good knowledge of the local area - they provided a very helpful handbook with suggestions for places to eat and visit. Overall we had a fantastic stay and have already discussed a potential return...we loved this place!!
Charming Carrouges Farmhouse
There are no words to express how relaxing and peaceful our stay was in this beautiful setting. The tasteful decor and layout met every need. The family favorite was the pool, badminton, and picnic area beneath the trees. We were so close to everything in Normandy, and our hosts were so gracious and helpful. We will definitely share this hidden gem with friends and family.
Thank you, Pip & Gary!
The lovely sandy beaches of Normandy are 1 hour away if you would like to just relax and sunbathe and have the occasional French ice cream. If you are looking for the historic landing beaches of the Second World War Two beaches then these are 1- 1.5 hrs away. The sites alsohave interesting museums to visit; you can choose the British landing beaches or the American beaches further along the coastline. The sites are beautiful but yet sombre when one thinks of what happened there. Very moving!
