Finca Alta Cocina and it´s guest accommodation - Villa Madreselva, are in six acres of private grounds with great views. They are in a tranquil valley with lots of olive trees and unspoilt scenery. The peaceful atmosphere occasionaly breaks the sound of bells from the passing herd of goats or sheep. The side of a small mountain is part of the grounds, which you can scramble up if you are feeling energetic. There is a super 12-metre x 6-metre pool with sun loungers and comfortably furnished pergolas, where you can relax away from the sun and perhaps enjoy a quiet read, glass of wine - or both. Nearest town of Algodonales is 7km away. At one end of a big central square is the church with the children´s playground and plenty of bars, cafes, restaurants, shops and banks - and fresh running water from the mountains which you can bottle at the town's two fountains. Ronda, the most dramatic pueblo blanco (white hill town) in the whole of Spain, is 35 min away. The villa is a great base for trips to beautiful Seville (1 hour) and historic Cadiz (75 minutes) with its long, wide golden beach. Marbella and Malaga are a 90-minute drive, granada is 2 hours.

I am Eva, the villa´s owner and a profesional chef who used to own a restaurant in Messing, near Colchester, Essex, for ten years. In 2006 my family decided to move to Spain to enjoy a more relaxed life and the fabulous weather. We set up a cooking holiday business which still runs successfully along the holiday rental. The family circumstances have changed in the last few years and now I live alone and am personally involved in a day to day running of both businesses. Apart from the comfortable accommodation I offer one day cookery classes as well as gourmet meals for the villa guests. Please ask for details if you are interested in participating.
Eva purchased this Villa in 2006

Merci à Eva pour sa gentillesse et son accueil et aussi à Juan, un ami d’Eva qui s’occupe de l’intendance de la maison, pour son hospitalité.
Special interest holidays:
Finca Alta Cocina runs 3-day cookery courses when the villa is not rented.
The villa guests can pre book one day cookery course at €70 per person including a meal.
It is just over an hour's drive to beaches on the Costa de la Luz (Coast of Light). The best of the nearest ones are Sanlucar de Barrameda, Rota and magnificent Cadiz - Europe's oldest city. It has a long and wide clean, golden beach with chiringuitos (beach snack bars) and the ancient part of the city at one end, with the gold-domed cathedral the centre-piece. Marbella is 90 minutes via Ronda and a very winding mountain road. San Pedro is the nearest Costa del Sol beach on the way to Marbella.
The finca is well served by flights from the UK. Jerez Airport is 50 minutes away and Seville is an hour. Ryanair fly into both airports and Easyjet fly to Malaga (1hr 45mins away)… with a drive through outstanding countryside to the villa. It is essential to hire a car at the airport Hire cars are a reasonable price – simply not paying for an airport taxi would cover much of the cost. Public transport is very unreliable and you can tour the stunning countryside and towns around us with a car.
The finca is 10 minutes by car from Algodonales and 25 minutes from Ronda, set dramatically high in cliffs above a river splitting the town in two. Ernest Hemingway frequently stayed and he used it as the setting for his bestseller For Whom the Bell Tolls, about the Spanish Revolution. The town has the oldest bullring in Spain. Zahara de la Sierra, a pretty pueblo blanco, is 15 minutes away with a superb view of a vast lake. There are pre-historic cave paintings near Benaojan 30 minutes away.
Eva, who run Finca Alta Cocina, used to own a successful restaurant in Essex. When the finca's villa is not occupied, she gives 3-day cookery breaks with three hour classes each day. If villa guests would like cookery lessons, they could be arranged at a special rate. And if they would like dinner provided on some evenings, Eva would cook a 3-course meal with wine for 25 euros per head, including wine. The area is well-supplied with shops and supermarkets, with the Mercadona chain the most outstanding. The local town of Algodonales has several ATMs, a couple of chemists, as well as many bars and restaurants.
