Peaceful, secluded little getaway.
We would just like to say thank you very much for our stay at your cottage last month. We had an amazing time in Durness and we thought that your cottage was a real hidden gem. It had everything we needed and more. The facilities were more than expected and the cottage was clean and well presented. It was so peaceful and secluded there. The view up the mountain was amazing, watched the local Common Buzzards from the rear garden everyday. We arrived very late at the cottage at night, but this didn't cause any problem for ourselves. We would certainly recommend it to anyone and we hope to be able to stay in the future again.
Anne and Graham.
Thank you for taking the time to post this very encouraging review. I am so pleased that you found the cottage peaceful and to your liking.
I have tried to make the cottages comfortable and homely as I would wish for as a guest.
I think that the location of the cottages is fortunate in that they are fairly secluded but amenities are close by.
I hope to see you again in the future.
We found the description misleading, as really this is a converted property that at best could be described as a chalet. The rooms are fairly small, eg no room for bedside tables in one bedroom, so for 4 it would be very squashed accommodation. Kitchen is, however, well equipped. But what is disappointing is its location in a gloomy track beside overhanging trees at the front, and with no view of the sea at all or even the village. The view at the back is ok, but the communal garden has no proper seating, though there is a picnic table, and the view though pleasant is nothing special. The walk to the sea is 15 minutes at least(and we are fast walkers) If the weather had not been so wonderful, we would have been a bit unhappy with it, but on the other hand this a cheap property and I suppose is value for money. Durness itself is fantastic.
If you intend to watch TV be aware that the signal, especially in the evening, is intermittent.
I found this review disappointing as I have always tried to describe the property honestly and fairly.
The description mentions on more than one occasion that they are " small and cosy". There is no claim, in my description, of any sea or village views.
In addition,the pictures displayed on the websites clearly show:
1. It is a converted building, as so many of them are in this area ;
2. The bedroom shows no bedside cabinets ;
3. The views are of hills, not sea or village ;
4. The track beside the cottages, is clearly not mine it belongs to the church, who do not maintain it. I do this at my expense, and it is now trimmed. I would not describe it as any more gloomy than a walk in the woods.
The TV signal can be intermittent in bad weather, this is due to the limitation of our mast.
The walk to the sea does not take me 15 minutes.
I consulted 3 dictionaries for the meaning of "Chalet " and I stand by my description of "Cottages"
All of my returning guests enjoy the quiet cosy atmosphere my cottages offer.
In conclusion, I do not feel that anything in my description is in any way misleading, I therefore take exception especially to the first five words of this review
out in the wild
Beautiful little terraced cottage, only a 5 minute walk away from the beach, and shop. An excellent tourist information nearby too.
The cottage itself was lovely and cosy, comfy beds and all the amenities needed were supplied.
Would definitely stay there again
