About Charles

We started holidaying in Greece when our children were young as we were always assured of a friendly welcome. We had heard so much about the beauty of North East Coast and arrived in Avlaki by chance some 20 years ago. The peaceful, sheltered bay with its crystal clear water obviously left a lasting impression. Having visited, and thoroughly enjoyed many other Greek islands, fait drew us back to Avlaki and we realised the benefit of instant relaxation when returning to somewhere you have visited before. Avlaki has hardly changed since, except for the gradual development of privately owned villas in the olive groves above the bay, one of which we are extremely fortunate to own.

Charles purchased this villa in 2006

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had an amazing time in this fantastic villa. Incredible views and a wonderful location.

First class villa with an excellent location.

The overriding feature that makes Aurora such a versatile holiday home is the variety of very well designed outside spaces that make the villa work for a large group of people. Dey, Glocestershire.

Lots of rushing around shouting 'oooh' when we arrived - this is the family hallmark of excellence. Lovelock, Darkest Hampshire.

Everything was out of this world! The pool was brillo, spent many fabulous hours there. Thank you. Henriques, Scotland.

We relaxed the minute we arrived! Great house, lived in the pool and very sorry to leave. Sercombe, Buckinghamshire.

Loved waking up in the house to those staggering views every morning! Beautiful terrace area. Sad to leave. Lovelock, Somerset.

Stunning views, fantastic terrace to while away the evenings and a lovely villa. Special! Haynes, Nottinghamshire.

Just as good as the first time!

It really is like coming back home. The villa is beautifully furnished and extremely well equipped. The gardens are gorgeous, well maintained and so secluded and private. Well positioned for visiting San Sephanos, Kassiopi, Kalami and Agni Bay. Charles is very friendly, helpful and efficient. You won't be disappointed. Already booking for next year!

Excellent location and wonderful views.

  • 5 of 5

We agree with everything stated in previous reviews and although our stay was only one week, our three generation family had a wonderful, relaxing and memorable time.

Villa Aurora is set in a very scenic and tranquil location and has stunning views. You will need a car, but there are no precarious roads to negotiate and it is an easy, short drive to the picturesque coves of Agios Stefanos, Kalami, Kouloura, Agni and the local town of Kassiopi.

Our favourite haunt was Agios Stefanos - just a few minutes drive away. We ate here most evenings as the friendly waterside tavernas were excellent and the setting picture perfect. We also hired a boat for the day and enjoyed swimming in secluded coves and stopping for lunch at Agni Bay. A fabulous day out and well recommended.

The Villa itself is very spacious, of a high standard and extremely comfortable, clean, homely and well managed. Just as the photos and description on Villa Aurora's website. We particularly liked the many outside seating areas and the lovely large contemporary kitchen that was a pleasure to use and had every modern convenience.

Booking and communication with Charles was quick, friendly and efficient and I would not hesitate to recommend Villa Aurora to anyone wishing to visit this beautiful area of Corfu.

Thank you Charles for a great holiday - we hope to return.

Owner's Response: Maddy, I am very pleased that all your family had a great holiday in Villa Aurora. Agios Stephanos is very picturesque and the taverna owners are most amiable. They genuinely remember you from one year to the next. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon. Charles

Villa Aurora - Already re-booked!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic two week holiday in Villa Aurora. The villa quickly felt like home and more than exceeded our expectations.

It would have been easy to spend the whole holiday at the villa enjoying the excellent pool, the superb views and the comfortable seating areas. The property is spotlessly clean and has everything you could need for a relaxing break.

We did venture out but with so much within a few miles of the villa, you do not need to go far. This part of Corfu is stunning so there are many great beaches to enjoy. This includes Avlaki, which is a short walk from the villa. Aside from the beaches, we enjoyed good food in the local Tavernas. Hiring a boat is also recommend.

As we approached the end of our holiday, the decision was made. We have already booked for next year and this decision tells you all you need to know about our impression of Villa Aurora!

Villa Aurora Avlaki Bay Corfu

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful three generation family holiday at Villa Aurora in June/July this year. The villa is very well appointed and everything has been provided to make it home from home and the views are amazing! It is spotlessly clean and very well managed.

We asked if a gate could be provided to prevent our granddaughter (14months old) from making her way to the pool unaccompanied, Charles had a metal gate made (to match the railings) for the top of the steps, which also provided a very secure area on the terrace. We were delighted at this attention to our requirements which provided peace of mind for us all. We felt the villa was safe for our granddaughter, being able to lock the gate prevented this little person from accessing the pool.

Avlaki and the surrounding areas in North East Corfu have many stunning unspoilt bays and beautiful views, we found plenty to do during our enjoyable holiday including renting a boat at Agios Stephanos and a trip to Corfu Town. There are many quality tavernas within 10-15 minutes drive from the villa, all in all a perfect holiday destination.

Owner's Response: Dear Mike and Helen, Vey pleased you had such an enjoyable holiday and thanks for your review. Your enquiry about the gate has worked out very well and Yianni and Natushka did a great job installing it during the changeover. The area has a huge amount to offer for those that like to organise their own holiday. We hope you will be back next year to visit the old favourites and discover some new ones too.

A beautiful property

  • 5 of 5

A very large and beautiful property where our 2 families enjoyed a weeks holiday at the end of July. The house is well cared for and of an extremely high standard with regard to amenities and decor. The location is peaceful and scenic and is accessible to a number of coves / tavernas along the coastline. A car is required in order to appreciate the full beauty of this area. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the villa lived up to expectations from previous reviews. We would love to return in the future . The Wilsons / Smiths

Villa Aurora triumphs again!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit to Villa Aurora and having had such a great time last year I thought it would be hard to beat it but soon after arriving we noticed a great addition - a gate at the top of the steps leading to the pool. The children's ages ranged from 3 months to almost 3 and they obviously needed constant monitoring but having the gate allowed us to be much more relaxed about pool access than last year as well as providing greater safety. The children were more aware this year and really enjoyed the pool and surroundings. Happy children meant happy parents and grandparents so all in all everyone had a really great time - again!. Regarding the villa itself the high standards of last year had been maintained and the new fans in the terrace area really cooled the air during our meals - another welcome difference. If you are looking for a villa that is furnished like a home and feels like one then look no further. The temptation is to stay in the villa, enjoy the privacy of the surroundings and spend a lot of time in the pool but there are lots of good restaurants in Kassiopi and St Stephanos and Avlaki beach is a short walk - downhill through the olive grove. Thank you Natushka and Yiannis for looking after us so well. Villa Aurora is top of our list for European "down time".

Owner's Response: Jocelyn, thanks for a very generous review. So glad your second visit did not disappoint. The stair gate above the pool was a response to a client request and it has certainly been a big hit with subsequent guests with young children. Thank you also for your comments about it being a home rather than a holiday let. We like to think you can just turn up and appreciate the usual home comforts in the wonderful surroundings of Corfu. Looking forward to your third visit. Charles

Special interest holidays:

Greek Sailing Holidays, established in Corfu in 1995, offers dinghy sailing and windsurfing hire and tuition in the warm Mediterranean holiday environment of Avlaki. The light winds in the mornings are ideal for sailing instruction. Fresher conditions prevail in the afternoon enabling novices to practice their newly acquired skills and challenging opportunities for more experienced sailors.

Dimitris horse riding (just inland from Avlaki beach) offers a variety of horse riding tours, for children and adults from beginners to experienced riders, within the beautiful Erimtis peninsular. The school has been created with rescued horses and each has its own story.

The area is popular with walkers in early May and October.

The road that leads to Aurora continues as an unmade track through the olive groves to Avlaki bay. The crystal clear waters and white pebble beach are intoxicating. Sun beds and umbrellas are available and the two excellent tavernas will keep you replete throughout the day. Hiring a motor boat is a fun way to explore the idyllic coves that are the signature of North East Corfu’s beauty. Agios Spiridion, a slowly shelving sandy beach on North coast (ideal for children), is only a short drive.

British Airways has announced a new service from London Heathrow to Corfu commencing in May 2015. Easy Jet provides scheduled services to Corfu from London Gatwick, Luton, Manchester and Bristol. Ryan Air flys to Corfu from Stanstead, East Midlands, Leeds Bradford and Glasgow. Additionally, the charter airlines provide flight only seats from many other regional airports. Try: Fly Thomas Cook, Thomson Fly and Monarch Airlines. Car hire is essential to enjoy the best of what the area has to offer.

Villa Aurora is situated on Corfu's exclusive North East Coast, affectionately referred to as "Kensigton-on-Sea" in ITV's documentary "Corfu: A Tale of Two Islands", 38km from Corfu town/airport. All other amenities are close by. Avlaki beach 800m, 10 min walk, down an unmade track through olive groves or 2.5km via road. Sinies: supermarket, bakery, yummy cake shop, village taverna, 2km; Agios Stefanos: tavernas, 2.5km; Kassiopi: tavernas, bars, shops, 3km; Agios Spiridon: sandy beach, 8km.

Further Details:

The highlight of any Greek holiday has to be sitting in a water’s edge taverna, on a warm summer evening, savouring freshly prepared local produce. Conveniently, Villa Auroa is located close to some of the best restaurants and tavernas in northeast Corfu. Just below the villa on Avlaki bay are Cavo Barbaro and Avlaki Taverna, both serving freshly cooked local produce. The picturesque bay of Agios Stephanos is a short drive (taxi ride), where there is an excellent choice of water-front restaurants, tavernas and bars, including Eucalyptus Taverna, Kaparelli Taverna run by Costas and Galini Taverna run by Nikos. There are one or two bars where teenagers can retreat whilst their parents enjoy a local coffee.

The small fishing port of Kassiopi offers an even greater variety of tavernas and bars and one or two nightclubs including The Wave Bar. Tavernaki on the harbour front and Little Italy are amongst our favourites. For a special treat Trilogia Restaurant provides excellent food and magnificent sunsets.

A fun alternative is to travel to Agni by water taxi from Agios Stephanos where there are three famous waterside restaurants: Taverna Agni, Toula’s and Nikolas, each outstanding in different ways.

For those very special celebrations catering arrangements can include delivery of a freshly prepared supper or the assistance of a local cook to prepare a meal for you. Our house manager would be pleased to discuss your individual requirements.

The recently refurbished Hydropolis water park is situated on the north coast of the island, attached to Gelina Village & Resort near Acharavi, about 20 minutes’ drive. The larger Aqualand water theme park, at Agios Ioannis in the centre of Corfu, is approximately one-hour’s drive is great fun for all the family.

Corfu Old Town is beautiful and worth extending your holiday by a day or two to appreciate its charm or match the sometimes demanding flight schedules. Try Hotel Bella Venezia, Siorra Vittoria or Cavalieri Hotel.
