From our first step onto the balcony we were blown away by that view and for most of our stay we were quite happy to sit and gaze up and down the river for hours on end.The property certainly lends itself to a lazy holiday. It is very well maintained and decorated in a very comfortable homely manner, with lots of equipment for self-catering,books,tv and dvds for relaxing and Tino and Barbara are wonderful hosts, making themselves available at all times for any questions about the area, trips and finding us our own taxi driver Luis who was worth his weight in gold! They also let us borrow their dog regularly who is gorgeous! The pool area was kept spotless by Tino and was equally perfect for watching the view.We found a rather steep footpath through the vineyards to the village which was a lovely walk and the town of Mesao frio is a delight with everything you need, restaurants, cafes shops and a bustling friday market. Our favourite restaurant was Bem Servir in the town centre...excellent dishes of the day and very cheap. We loved Casa do Imaginario and everything about the area and would definitely come back.
Casa do Imaginario is placed in an outstanding position in the Douro Valley, and we enjoyed our short time there immensely. The veranda, being at the same level as the soaring eagles and kites, gives a panoramic view of the river and surroundings, the boats, the railway, etc. The electronic church bells are a feature, and the fireworks which occur on an almost daily basis resonate between the hills. The accomodatoin was nicely cool when outside the temperature was in the late 20's. Barbara and Tino were wonderfully helpful and also supportive in our hour of need.
My wife and I have stayed in many self catering apartments over our 15 yrs together. We have met some wonderfull hosts over the years. Our latest stay at Casa do Imaginario just shows the lengths some people will go to, to make your stay a pleasant one.
From the moment we arrived Barbara & Tino did all in their power to make our stay a memorable one. 1st night we arrive late. Tino takes us in his car to a local restaurant, which we gathered had already finished serving, and arranges with the owner a table for 2.
Fresh fruit from Tino's orchard awaits us next morning. We decide to have a barbeque that night. Hey presto, here comes Tino's wine from his vineyard situated beside the house. Excellent I must say.
As the days rolled by we were introduced to local restaurants where the food and again the hospitality was second to none.
Fancy a cruise on the Douro? Barbara can sort that out. Well worth it, fantastic day out. All holiday there were recommendations on what to do, where to go and what was on. Local markets, festival weekends, Barbara knows whats on & where.
Would I recommend a stay at Casa do Imaginario? Absolutely, no doubts, every time.
Can't wait to return next year.
