About the property

Stone Farm Holiday Lets

Peacefully situated, these newly converted barns are positioned close to the owners grade 2 listed farmhouse and are surrounded by farmland which visitors are welcome to walk and explore. The land offers views over rolling hills and wooded valleys and from the highest points both Exmoor and Dartmoor can be seen in the distance. A carpet of bluebells fills the woods in late Spring. Some visitors may be lucky enough to see a wild deer or a buzzard soaring overhead. The property is close to Barnstaple with it's pannier market, shops, restaurants, cinema and leisure facilities. Exmoor, a haven for wildlife, horse-riders, fishermen and walkers alike is also within easy reach. The spectacular coastline and famous surfing beaches are about a half an hour away. North Devon boasts beautiful landscapes from rolling hills to wild and dramatic moorland; from stunning sandy beaches to sheer rugged cliffs. Peace and tranquillity, rolling hills, ancient woodland, a perfect rural retreat.

About Jackie Wildig

A warm welcome will await you at Stone farm, our family home. Our family consists of: Me, Jackie, I am an infant school cover teacher. I love to cook and especially enjoy baking, probably inherited from my dad, a baker himself. Mark, my husband, works in the oil and gas industry. He is a whizz at fixing things.

Sam, our son is very mechanical and understands most things technical. (I'm sure Mark and Sam speak a different language to me!) Daisy is a Golden Retriever and is very friendly but rather bouncy! She loves anything from chasing her tail to stealing plant pots! Minnie, our cat, arrived about four years ago and decided to stay. She's good at getting locked in!

Jackie Wildig purchased this barn in 2002

Why Jackie Wildig chose Barnstaple

We moved to Stone Farm thirteen years ago. We all fell in love with it instantly. The position was just what we wanted, peaceful, private, no near neighbours and when we were told there were Bluebells in our own woods, in Spring, we were hooked! We have spent the last ten years renovating the house and it's many barns, in fact Mark has become a bit of a 'barn spotter', pointing out 'nice barns' wherever we go! We are very fussy and have endeavoured to make sure that all our own high standards have been met in Meadow and Orchard Barn. The builders often got frustrated with our 'nit picking', but when the barns were completed in April 2010, even they had to admit that it had all been worth it and that the finished result was 'a proper job'!

What makes this barn unique

Stone Farm is in an excellent position for touring North Devon, close to beaches, Barnstaple and the Moors.

It is set in over 80 acres of it's own land, meaning it is peaceful and quiet and there is lots for guests to explore including a nature trail through private woodland.

The barns are extremely spacious, contemporary and equipped only with new, good quality, fixtures and fittings.

We are very proud of what we have achieved and are delighted that it has been rated as A star or the 'best' by many of our guests.

Excellent

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful, modern barn. Beautifully decorated and very well appointed. All the conveniences you can ask for. The owners could not be more helpful including Sam, the son. On extra benefit we really enjoyed was the ping-pong table in a separate barn...

Property very hard to find the first time but very comvenient to Barnstable and surroundings.

The little things matter

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Orchard Barn mid August which was lovely.

Jackie was great and gave us a quick tour then left us to it which was great. The cottage was excellent, the standards were good, the room sizes ideal, but it was the attention to the little things that made a difference for us. The towels left to use, the sky tv package, the equipment in the kitchen equipment, the woodland walk details and even a lovely cake left for us at the start of the week all made things a little more personal. It was simply a home from home. We were very impressed, it has been the best venue yet for us and this was the forth time we've booked a cottage holiday in the UK.

Location wise it's good for the surrounding areas so long as you're up for 30 minute drives and a few side roads. So quiet and tranquil too. The beaches around are amazing and there's lots to do for all ages but wherever you go you'd need travel.

One thing to note is that the cottage does have lovely views but the side looks onto the other cottage, however we didn't find this intrusive.

Would we go back? Yes in a blink if we decided to go to North Devon again.

Thank you Jackie. We had a lovely week and your accommodation was outstanding 5☆

Relaxation in the Devon countryside.

  • 4 of 5

We found Orchard Barn to be spacious, light and airy and very tastefully furnished throughout, in fact exactly as pictured on the web site. The lemon drizzle cake left for us both was very much appreciated after an unexpected long journey. The huge shower in the master bedroom was excellent, as were all the amenities inc dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer, which due to the weather, we had use of. Very comfortable bed, and although I never usually sleep well on the first night in a different bed, there was no problem here. Would have liked a full length mirror in the bedroom or elsewhere. Plenty of information in the folders and leaflets was useful, although some recommendations of nearby restaurants would have been handy. The Black Venus in Challacombe serves excellent food, however it doesn't take bookings, so need to arrive early to secure a table. Nearby Lynton & Lynmouth very good with the Cliff Railway and also the Glen Lyn Gorge. Quince Honey Farm at South Molton was interesting as were visits to Croyde Bay, Ilfracombe and Woolacombe. Beware reliance on Sat Navs as we were often taken down very narrow single track roads! If you want restful, peace and quiet with plenty to explore then look no further than Stone Farm's Orchard Barn.

Owner's Response: We appreciate the time taken by our guests to write reviews. We are interested in hearing the opinion of our guests as to what we need to do to maintain our 5 star standard. With this in mind a long mirror has now been placed in Orchard Barn. All the mattresses at Stone Farm holiday lets were replaced this season. We are pleased that guests are enjoying the new ones. We live on site so are always happy to give advice, recommendations and directions as and when guests require them. There are restaurant recommendations from previous guests in our visitors book and we have included many on the hospitality area of Owners direct. At Stone farm we strive to provide a friendly, 5 star service with a personal touch.
