Not for you if you value your sleep

I am sorry to say that whilst the villa was adequate for our needs if a little dated we had to move out after 2 nights due to the extreme noise from 2 dogs in the next door property. The one night they stopped barking at 1am and then started again at 4am. They had a run the length of the rear of the villa and continually ran up and down barking all of the time.We were complete wrecks after 2 nights. We had to pay £1000 for another villa in the area but to us it was well worth it as we actually went home feeling like we had a holiday. I am still waiting for a reply to 3 emails to the villa owner.

Spot on!

  • 4 of 5

Set about 5 minutes walk from the village centre and the beach, the villa is ideally placed. It is in it's own enclosed space with fresh fruit (lemons, limes and grapes) all growing in the garden! A reasonable sized kitchen and living area for those who wish to stay indoors and not sample Cretan night-life and a gain, only a short walk to various shops for fresh fruit, bread, meat etc.

A couple of minor points to note. The area is residential and a lot of people keep dogs - these can be awake very early and if they are up then so are you! The next door neighbour produces his own wine and whatever machinery he has is just outside the bedroom so it can be heard sometimes (although not too early) - the upside is that the wine he produces is very good and he threw in a bout 5lb of grapes when we bought a couple of bottles from him! low water pressure in the shower was a bit of a pain but not massively. The villa itself is a little bit dated however this adds to it's charm - if you want internet and television then book a hotel!

The owner (Jim) was very courteous and quick to reply (all contact with him was via email) and the couple that managed the villa on his behalf were very friendly and accommodating.

Overall, we had a great time and would definitely consider booking again.

Pure relaxing bliss

  • 5 of 5

Me and my best friend visited Kalives for a girly 4 day break. We stumbled across Villa Drosso and we liked that it had gated grounds as we were two young women that wanted to feel safe. It was well within our budget too 👍 I dont really know what we were expecting but we were blown away with the property when we arrived! The property owner had arranged a taxi for us, and when Mike(the taxi driver) pulled up at the villa, my friend was almost in tears! Stunning big white villa covered in gorgeous bright pink flowers!! The villa inside was immaculate, so clean and we had big fluffy towels laid out on the ends of the beds. We walked around the garden for ten mins enjoying the smells of the rose bushes every where and even picked some limes and put them in the fridge to use In our drinks. We then set off to the beach to see what that was like. I had been to crete before a few years back so knew the beach would be nice but again I was shocked at how pretty it all looked. All the taverna's lined up along the back of the beach, and the staff at the taverna's smiled at you as you passed rather than pester you to come inside(my pet hate!!) We spent most of the time at the beach and we found we like the taverna near the end the best. I believe it was called Elanor?? Comfiest sun beds, Amazing food, great beer and fast wifi 👍 In the evening's we would start at the small bar in the square under a huge tree. I can't remember the name but the drink was cheap and there was always lots of friendly chatty people around. Every meal we had was superb but I think our favourite was the kebab shop 😂 sounds silly but the food was so good. We ate until we couldn't move, drank 2 or 3 large karaf's of wine and our bill was something ridiculous like €14!!!!! So cheap!! We met Barry and Judy a few times, the people who look after the villa. Lovely English couple that really couldn't do enough for us. Very handy people to know as they know the village very well and know all the best spots! We had the best time and can't wait to return! Thankyou so much Jim for letting us enjoy your villa, it's truly beautiful!!

ideally placed in a lovely resort

  • 3 of 5

This is a lovely villa, ideally placed in this lovely resort. It was only a couple of minutes walk to the village square and the start of a number of tavernas and another couple of minutes beyond to the beach and even more tavernas. There is plenty of outside space to lounge on the garden (and even on the roof). The owner was very helpful as were the caretakers who live just beyond the villa. The air conditioning was a blessing but sadly did not extend into the bedrooms. Both bedrooms and shower room could do with an update.

Just Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for the perfect location for your Cretan holiday, then Kalives it is! The village has everything you could possibly need with a beautiful and safe beach, plenty of taverna's to choose from, shops and the delightful village square has always been a favourite of ours to just sit and watch village life go by with a Mythos, or something similar close at hand! Villa Drosso is the most delightful place to complete your stay with its lovely enclosed gardens, recently refurbished roof terrace and three outdoor balconies that allow you to sit in sun or shade at any time of the day! Inside the accommodation is clean, well presented and equipped and just a few minutes walk into the centre of the village and a few minutes more to the beach. A perfect location and we always look forward to returning year after year!

The owner ensures customers are well catered for with a local English couple nearby to clean and maintain the villa who are also happy to help you, if needed, throughout your stay. A personal memory we take away every year.......that night time walk back 'home' to be greeted by the smell of the Jasmine bush that surrounds the gate to the villa........keeps us going all winter!

Good Holiday Villa

  • 5 of 5

This is a really nice, well maintained house in an ideal location for a short walk to local tavernas, shops and the beach. It's also handy for the national road if you want to tour around like we did.

The owner responded to emails quickly and in a very friendly manner and will arrange airport transfers if required.

We were made to feel very welcome and we would choose to stay there again in future visits to the area.
