Our aim is to provide beautiful accommodation in a wonderful location so you can enjoy your well-earned break without stress or worry! To this end we have furnished our cottages to cater for all your comforts, while giving you the best of french country style. This is a perfect getaway for couples or groups of friends who would like to sample village life in a beautiful location. St Fraimbault is a true village fleurie and has won France's annual floral village competition many times. In the summer months rowing boats and pedalos may be hired at the lake. Or if you prefer you can just sit enjoying the ambiance whilst tucking into freshly cooked crepes or sausisses et frites from the cafe/bar.
A beautiful cottage with two very large double bedrooms
For the last 15 years my husband, our two children and I have been spending all school holidays at our family house near Gorron, Western Loire. During that time we got to know the beautiful village of St Fraimbault really well and enjoyed spending time walking round the lake and looking at the amazing flower displays. We have loved sharing fun times and relaxation with friends and family over the years in this wonderful part of France. There truly is something for everything from brocantes, markets and beautiful scenery to easy access to the coast of Brittany and Northern Normandy. Every year we discover a new place to visit and have never been bored, even without TV.
Amanda Edney purchased this cottage in 2008
As an Interior Designer, with a passion for renovation, I jumped at the chance of buying two adjoining cottages in my favourite village seven years ago. They were both very rundown, with one of them needing completely gutting. I tackled the first renovation using a team of french artisans and was delighted with the result! Last year I completed renovating the second cottage which is now also available to guests. This is a lovely part of France, with lots to do and good access to the coast and other fascinating areas. You will be surprised at how quiet it is, even in August, no queues here! The cottages are ideal for two families holidaying together as there is a shared courtyard garden, with each cottage having its own table, chairs and BBQ. They are also ideal for a two location holiday as St Fraimbault is en route to the South of France. The village is easily accessible from the ferry ports of St Malo, Caen or Cherbourg.
If you love village life, practising your French and meeting people, you will love it here! The village location of the cottage is ideal for anyone not wanting to have to drive everywhere. For a taste of home there is an 'Irish' bar with a french slant, just up the road. The village is well served by a small supermarket and a boulangerie where you can buy your fresh croissants and bread each morning. For an early evening aperitif, there is an open air bar on the lake during the Summer season (also serving excellent crepes and wonderful coffee). What about the kids? - well the pedalos on the lake keep them amused! And did I mention the glorious village flower displays?
We stayed for 22 lights in the beautiful 'La Jolie Maison.' The village of Saint Fraimbault was peaceful, quaint, and exceptionally pretty. The cottage was exceptionally clean, beautifully furnished, with every detail carefully considered, and the decor was simply gorgeous. The kitchen was extremely well-equipped and had everything and more that you really needed! The Wifi was an added bonus which we really appreciated and the courtyard was great for getting to know the neighbours and spend time outdoors. The fans in the bedrooms were an excellent addition which proved very beneficial to us because we had hot weather for majority of our stay. The locals were extremely welcoming and friendly, especially Eddie and Bridget who run the local Irish pub just down the road, who were both so welcoming and hospitable. We were lucky enough to be in the village for the Flower Festival which is held annually on the 15th of August. It was a great opportunity to see the village flowers in all their splendour and was a day which we really enjoyed. The supermarket in the village was well-stocked and had a number of different essentials and Gorron was only 11km away for larger grocery shops. Domfront - a fabulous medieval town, 10 minutes away, was a must-see for us. We also travelled to places in Brittany such as St.Malo, Dinan and Dinard and to Normandy where we visited Granville, a fabulous seaside town. On days when we decided to stay local, we headed down to the lake which had great coffee, wine, crêpes, and ice-cream. The paddle-boats provided endless amusement for us and the walks around the lake were lovely. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay in La Jolie Maison and would highly recommend to anyone looking to stay in a beautiful house in a pretty village but still conveniently situated. Thank you Amanda for a simply wonderful stay!
