Beautiful cottage with three bedrooms : a large double, a double and a single
Our aim is to provide beautiful accommodation in a wonderful location so you can enjoy your well-earned break without stress or worry! To this end we have furnished our cottages to cater for all your comforts, while giving you the best of french country style. This is a perfect getaway for couples or groups of friends who would like to sample village life in a beautiful location. St Fraimbault is a true village fleurie and has won France's annual floral village competition many times. In the summer months rowing boats and pedalos may be hired at the lake. Or if you prefer you can just sit enjoying the ambiance whilst tucking into freshly cooked crepes or sausisses et frites from the cafe/bar.
For the last 15 years my husband, our two children and I have been spending all school holidays at our family house near Gorron, Western Loire. During that time we got to know the beautiful village of St Fraimbault really well and enjoyed spending time walking round the lake and looking at the amazing flower displays. We have loved sharing fun times and relaxation with friends and family over the years in this wonderful part of France. There truly is something for everything from brocantes, markets and beautiful scenery to easy access to the coast of Brittany and Northern Normandy. Every year we discover a new place to visit and have never been bored, even without TV.
Amanda Edney purchased this cottage in 2008
As an Interior Designer, with a passion for renovation, I jumped at the chance of buying two adjoining cottages in my favourite village seven years ago. They were both very rundown, with one of them needing completely gutting. I tackled the first renovation using a team of french artisans and was delighted with the result! Last year I completed renovating the second cottage which is now also available to guests. This is a lovely part of France, with lots to do and good access to the coast and other fascinating areas. You will be surprised at how quiet it is, even in August, no queues here! The cottages are ideal for two families holidaying together as there is a shared courtyard garden, with each cottage having its own table, chairs and BBQ. They are also ideal for a two location holiday as St Fraimbault is en route to the South of France. The village is easily accessible from the ferry ports of St Malo, Caen or Cherbourg.
If you love village life, practising your French and meeting people, you will love it here! The village location of the cottage is ideal for anyone not wanting to have to drive everywhere. For a taste of home there is an 'Irish' bar with a french slant, just up the road. The village is well served by a small supermarket and a boulangerie where you can buy your fresh croissants and bread each morning. For an early evening aperitif, there is an open air bar on the lake during the Summer season (also serving excellent crepes and wonderful coffee). What about the kids? - well the pedalos on the lake keep them amused! And did I mention the glorious village flower displays?
We had a lovely holiday in your wonderful cottage! Lovely, peaceful village too - everyone so friendly.
The cottage is really lovely and so well equipped - the best we have stayed in I think.

Compact and well-equipped cottage with good attention to detail. Beds were very comfortable!
Shared courtyard was fine as we shared it with a lovely family from Ireland, but perhaps lacking a little outdoor privacy for longer stays. Village is lovely if you are looking for a quiet base (as we were!) and the lakeside walk definitely adds to the mix.
Promised wi-fi was patchy at best - not critical to us, but always useful when exploring local places to visit. All in all a great place to stay, particularly for a short break.
The cottage has been beautifully restored and is very well equipped. The village is very quiet.
There are limited facilities within walking distance (boulangerie and restaurant were both closed when we were there) but plenty to enjoy within 30 to 60 minute drive.
We were a party of 4 adults and the cottage suited us well.
We spent half term with two children - no TV and they actually survived!
Although we had mixed weather there was lots to do near by and the children especially liked the swimming pool at Flers.
The accommodation was excellent and the 3 bedrooms meant that the children could have their own room.
Yes the steps up to the third floor were a little steep but we only went up to the top floor to sleep.
We loved St Fraimbault and even returned a property owner just round the corner!
Location, layout and facilities were as per description from online site.
Property was recently renovated and is fully equipt with what a family would need.
The owner called a few days before our arrival informing us of anything which related to the property and activities in and around the area. The owner was very helpful with any questions, enquiries or concerns. She even provided us with milk and a box of biscuits upon our arrival. I would definately recommend this property to family and friends. It's good value, clean and very accessible. There's a guest book where previous guests have given infos of any useful guides and activities, which some were helpful. A car is a must as every where you travelled was about an hour and half. If you're new to the are, it's good to know opening times of all amenities. We found out during our travels. Every where we attempted to go to was closed between 12pm-2pm. Depending on individual eating preference, we found a great supermarket called, E. Leclerc. Although we have a 9 year and a 19 year old, non us of wanted to eat pizza and chips every other night and so we cooked and ate at the cottage for breakfast and dinner. The scenery was picturesque, however we were a little disappointed with the selection of food available on the go and in some restaurants we ate at. We are a family who appreciates traditional and new cuisines, but unfortunately it was difficult to find a local restaurant, which served good home cooked french meals. When we found a restaurant that did onion soup, it was very poor. We love seafood and not all the beaches and ports did a wide selection of platters.
There are plenty of activities to suit all ages and most are reasonably priced. One thing we regret not having been able to do is to have a seafood meal by the sea in the evening and chill. This is because we had to travel back home for an hour and a half and avoid driving in pitched black roads. Having said that, this was our first time in the area and having the opportunity to drive almost every where every day has given us a better idea for our return. We didn't manage to do what we had on our list, but we did prepare for that as we didn't want to cram everything in one week. Definately be re-visiting and aside from what we discovered during our stay. When we plan our next visit, we will be better prepared.Thank you again Amanda for your hospitality.
La Belle Maison is a very clean and well maintained cottage set in the prettiest French village. The living area is comfortable with a very well equipped kitchen, leading onto a shared paved courtyard. The beds are very cosy and the loft room is lovely and spacious - be careful of the steep stairs though! We had lovely weather so made good use of the local lake and gardens. Plenty to do in the local area, and fab beaches about an hours drive away. Would definitely recommend this holiday.
25km away at La Ferte Mace you will find a man-made beach. The closest natural beach is Le Mont St Michel 80km away.
There are a number of fishing lakes locally both private and municipal - canoeing is available on local river certain times of year.
Brittany Ferries Portsmouth-Caen is the slower route but only an 1hr 30 mins drive from house. We can offer discount on Brittany Ferries on payment of deposit. Sea France Dover -Calais is the quicker of ferries but remember you have a 5 hour drive on the french side. There will be toll charges. P&O Dover-Calais- As Sea France. Channel Tunnel Folkestone-Calais quickest of all but long drive ahead and toll roads. Dinard airport is 2 hours away.
The medieval town of Domfront is a short drive away, offering restaurants, shops and fabulous views of the surrounding countryside.
Village facilities include: pedalos; boules and tennis. There is mini-supermarket which sells stamps and stocks a range of food/beverages (including fresh milk). Also in the village you will find a bar and hairdressers!
