About Angela ZW
We are a family of four, we have 2 boys aged 21 and 17. We live in a cottage in the New Forest which we restored over 3 years and have subsequently extended. We both had careers but enjoyed restoring our home so much that we carried on developing in the UK and renting out properties. It is now our means of income and way of life. Normandy was a challenge but worth it. The chalet in Switzerland was bought as a result of repeatedly visiting the same village year after year and wanting to be independent of rentals. Collioure was again the result of loving an area and our later years when we may enjoy the mild climate and some sunny weather... but we have just bought another property with a pool 1 hour inland from Collioure...In the meantime we want others to share our homes in our absence. The chalet is managed by Haslirent in order to ensure final cleaning and linen provision is maintained, look on their site and book direct, english, swiss, dutch and some french spoken.
Angela ZW purchased this Chalet in 2003
Why Angela ZW chose Hasliberg
We spent many years visiting this area, which was introduced to us by a swiss family who had rented there for 20 years. We stayed in many holiday lets but always had a dream to have something of our own. Hasliberg is unspoilt and is still a working area so has traditional houses rather than huge concrete buildings. It is popular all year round and is particularly suited to families. It is not a touristy area with souvenir shops and apres ski venues. It is for snow activities, walking, cycling, swimming etc etc. The chalet is set in a group of 8 chalets up a small track and is away from all the hustle and bustle of every day life. Peace, tranquility, spectacular views, with every comfort of home. There is a local shop with larger shops in the valley. Restaurants/bank are a walk away. The chalet is managed by Haslirent in order to ensure final cleaning and linen provision is maintained, look on their site and book direct, english, swiss, dutch and some french spoken.
What makes this Chalet unique
The chalet is accessible by car when there is no snow, then the car has to be left at the garage. The chalet is not convenient to those wishing for a short walk from car to door - the chalet is on a hillside so walking up /down is unavoidable. The area is easily reached by car, train and bus. Rucksacks are a must although we do have a machine at the garage for luggage/shopping. The chalet has unrivalled views of the valley, glacier waterfall and skies. Whatever the weather there is something to observe from the balcony, terrace or inside the chalet. A stream runs at the bottom of the garden which gives a lovely background sound of water, whilst the 180 degree views provide entertainment all year round. The chalet is a comfortable base for your holiday to walk, cycle or play in the snow. The chalet is managed by Haslirent in order to ensure final cleaning and linen provision is maintained, look on their site and book direct, english, swiss, dutch and some french spoken.

We had a lovely week at Chalet Dornon, the chalet had everything we needed and was very comfortable. We had a problem with the internet but this was sorted out by the owners very quickly which made the kids even happier in the evenings after skiing all day. We found the buses very good which were free with the ski pass so able to get around without the car. The village was nice and the bars we tried were great.
Most beautiful chalet with great view
Lying in your bed and having a wonderful view to the 'Wetterhorn'.
That's like being part of a fairytale.
We had a wonderful time together with our children. Chalet Dornen is a perfect place to start walking tours and to discover the Berner Oberland. Brienz, Interlaken, famous hills like Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau are not far away.
And having a barbecue and a cold beer on the terrace after a long day is the perfect end of a day.
We love this part of Switzerland and have visited many times. This has to be the best place we have stayed in by far. Surrounded by glorious, breathtaking views. We visited with family which varied in ages and abilities. All managed the steps and walk to the car in the snow.
Children loved the outside area especially when we had a fresh flurry of snow.
There wasn't anything missing. Definitely home from home, from every kitchen utensil possible to games for the children, log fire (which was a big hit!) The Chalet was very clean and tidy. A big thank you for the spare ski gear in the garage, our son loved using the snowboard!
Excellent communication throughout, nothing was to much to ask.
Defiantly recommend this Chalet 100%
Thank you for a lovely review, i am so pleased you liked it. Having spent so much time there with our children growing up, we have 'equipment ' and clothing which is available to use by the guests. The views are spectacular but not everyone appreciates the walk, but when they do it is a perfect location for anytime during the day or evening and for us it is a home from home. Thank you again
Amazing chalet !!
We stayed at this chalet with our two young sons who thoroughly enjoyed themselves in the midst of beautiful surroundings! The chalet was amazing with beautiful views from the window and a host of toys for the boys to play with after a day in the mountains. There was so much to do in terms of walking which suited us down to the ground and the weather was kind which was an added bonus!!! We cannot rate this chalet highly enough and have already recommended it to our friends and family. We will certainly be back! Finally, thank you so much to Elisabeth for sending our sons 'bunny' back to the UK after we left him behind!!! Amazing 😀😀
Thank you for your review, it is great when like minded people love the chalet as much as we do. Our boys have been going to Hasliberg sice they were 4 months and 4 years old, they are now 22 and 18 and still come with us, in both winter and summer (they love the winter!)
I am pleased Elisabeth helped reunite your son with his rabbit.
Love this place
We stayed here during the last week of the skiing season, but have stayed here in the Summer too. The chalet has magnificent views and every time we stay here I never tire of looking across the rolling fields and across to the snow capped mountain peaks on the other side of the valley. The chalet is cosy and very well equipped. There are beautiful walks in the surrounding area, it is convenient for skiing (we had no snow right next to the chalet when we went, but the snowy slopes were only a short drive away) and there is plenty to do and see locally and in the rest of the Berner Oberland. The chalet owners are helpful and we have never had problems with booking, arrival, departure etc. The track up to the chalet is steep and there are a lot of steps up to the chalet from the parking spot; this doesn't bother us at all, but may not suit everyone. But if you come to Switzerland on holiday you can't expect everything to be on the flat! Overall I'd recommend this chalet highly.
Thank you for your review, the chalet is perfectly located for our family and those families who return year after year in the summer and winter. I always advise 'casual' sight seeing guests to the valley, to Meiringen, Brienz or Interlaken as these visitors do not want to be in the mountains, just to look at them. Yes the track is 'steep' but we have a hill in our New Forest village of a similar gradient and yes there are steps to the chalet as shown in our photos. The up side to a holiday in Hasliberg is that you return home healthier and fitter!!
At the start of the week we drive with our skis and boots to Twing or Reuti and then leave them in the lock up racks and lockers/shelves for the boots. We walk to the cable cars in Twing or Reuti - that way our feet and muscles are warm and ready for skiing and use walking boots/snow boots. Often we leave everything at the 'top' and walk all the way back down as the views are spectacular. Our sons ski down or walk up the track and ski down to Twing if there is enough snow, They often take a sledge up and sledge down (leaving their skis and boots in Maegisalp or Kasterstatt)
If the chalet suits the guests they come back every year, summer or winter, just like we did for 5 years before buying the chalet. Many have already passed the 5year mark!!
Chalet with a view!
This was our second visit to Chalet Dornen and once again we were not disappointed. The view from the balcony is just amazing, and you could easily spend your whole visit sitting there watching the ever changing landscape! The chalet is very clean, well maintained and beautifully equipped, even down to Lego and various toys and games suitable for children of all ages. Our grandson, aged 2, had a brilliant time playing with the basket of big tractors and trucks which we found in the under-chalet rooms. There are loads of places to visit nearby including The Reichenbach Falls, where Sherlock Holmes supposedly fell to his death, following the Dwarf Trails up in the mountains, taking a paddle steamer ride on Lake Brienz, the list goes on.
We would certainly highly recommend this property to anyone, as long as they are able to manage the steps leading up to the chalet.
Thank you once again.
I am really happy when people return, particularly when they clearly love it as much as we do. We try to make it a home from home, so that guests are comfortable.Yes there are steps and I always ask the make up of the group as I would rather people did not visit if the chalet is not suitable to their needs. That said if you are relatively fit and mobile, Switzerland is a country where you should return home healthier!
Special interest holidays:
Obviously the activities here are endless, walking, hiking, climbing, paragliding, painting, lake swimming or outdoor and indoor pool in Meiringen skiing, snowboarding, Langlaufen -cross country skiing/snow shoe trekking, sledging, cycling etc. Meiringen is famous for it's links to Sherlock Holmes.
There are 2 lakes close by, approximately 30 minutes by car, one at Lungern and one at Brienz. Both have 'beaches' and facilities to entertain children and adults alike.
We drive to Hasliberg, 600 miles from the French coastal ports. Flights can be taken to Bern, the closest airport (1 hours drive away), or Basle,Zurich or Geneva - 2 -21/2 hrs drive away. See the accessibility section.Train station at Brunig. Car hire is preferrable, convenient for luggage, shopping, sightseeing. If no car is wanted and you are not keen on walking up and down hills then please look on Haslital for accommodation in the valley area - where everything is on your 'doorstep'.
Hasliberg Goldern is 10-15 minutes away, Twing and Reuti are both 20 minutes walk away - where there are cable cars. Meiringen is about 30 minutes drive away and Interlaken about 45 minutes - see our website. Cars make sightseeing easy, but if you like using your legs(walking/cycling), buses, cable cars, trains and boats then this is all possible but the chalet is 20 minutes walk from the bus stop in Goldern and about 20-25 minutes from the cable car at Reuti which goes down to Meiringen.
There is a small shop with bakery in Hasliberg Wasserwendi which can be walked to in 20 minutes, or driven to in 10.There is a bank in Twing with a cash point. There is a post office in Goldern. There are local restaurants in Goldern,Wasserwendi and Reuti.
Larger supermarkets are in Meiringen,Brienz and Interlaken.
there are numerous places to visit which I have on the website, my notes and at the chalet.
There are a range of activities that you would expect in the mountains for both winter and summer - skiing / walking / sledging. Cycling, paragliding, swimming, monster trotti bikesetc.
Places to visit include Ballenburg open air museum, Muggestutz weg, Aareschlucht, Brienz wood carving, Lucerne Transport Museum, Hergiswil glass blowing centre, grimsel pass/Susten pass, Grindelwald, lakes of Brienz or Lungern, Sherlock Holmes museum etc.
