Villa Monterosso is a large detached villa set in 2 acres of grounds, situated within a beautiful national park. The village is near the picturesque town of Caprese Michelangelo, birthplace of the famous painter, and is perfectly placed to enable you to explore the area, from the nearby historic towns of Anghiari and Sansepolcro or slightly further afield to Assisi, Florence or Siena. With stunning views, it is also ideal if you want a more relaxing break - either sunning yourself on the terrace with a good book and a glass of wine or floating in the 13 x 6 metre pool and taking in the outstanding natural beauty of the valley.
We have just returned from staying in Neil's villa and cannot praise it highly enough. It is the kind of place you could happily live in!
The rooms are all a very good size, it is well-equipped and even has an outdoor pizza-oven. There is a microwave, dishwasher and washing machine so it has all the home comforts you might need.
There are a number of restaurants a short drive away and a small shop, although the larger supermarkets are a longer drive.
The villa is very well maintained, comfortable and spacious and there is a villa manager, Jeremy, an ex-pat himself, who was easily contactable when needed and full of useful information and advice.
The view from the villa is amazing and the pool is very large, easy to get into and a swim-able depth. It's the best pool we have ever had and we've been to quite a number of places over the years.
We needed wifi and Neil went out of his way to provide a good set-up, (although if do you need to have wifi, it's 4G, so do ensure your devices are set to not auto-update, avoid streaming to preserve data and switch it off when not in use.)
The house had DVDs, books and games available for quieter moments and it was cool inside, so not too hot to sleep in.
There are ample showers/bathrooms and comfy seating as well as a large, separate area downstairs so kids or teens can get away from grownups if desired (or vice-versa!)
It would also be good for two smaller-sized families- we had three generations of the same family and there was plenty of room.
It can feel a little remote, but in fact, Anghiari, Arezzo, Perugia, San Marino and even Florence are within reach, as is the Adriatic coast.
You will definitely need a car, though if you feel energetic, there is a restaurant, Mariucca (sp?) and the convenience store are in walking distance (opposite directions)
We had a lovely stay and for once, we were just not ready to come home. Thank you Neil and also Jeremy for everything.
Perfect family holiday house.
We have seen the pictures but trust me once we got there we were speechless!
The position of the house is perfect and it has an amazing view. When we entered the property we felt home right away!! The kitchen has everything you need even a little First Aid box and an emergency sewing kit!!
You will find a folder with emergency contacts and many other information about the house and some of the local restaurants.
The bedrooms are very spacious with comfy beds.
The 3 bathrooms are equipped with showers and are kept very clean. The owners provided towels for the house and for the swimming pool as well. Downstairs there is a large room (we called it the Chillaxing room) with a nice sofa and a TV where we relaxed in the afternoons. There is a large balcony overlooking the surroundings where we had our meals from breakfast to dinners.
At the back of the property there is a amazing table where we sat and enjoyed the peace of the area. Few steps from the table you will find THE pizza oven and a BBQ. We managed to make loads of different pizzas and cooked them in the oven ....a very nice and tasty experience.
At the front of the property there is a very big swimming pool!!! I have to admit we spent a many hours of our day in the pool as it is very inviting.
Around the garden you will find chestnuts trees, fig trees, cherry trees, hazelnuts trees, plum trees and lots of variety of lovely flowers.
There are 8 comfortable sun loungers for the guests to use and some pool toys to use in the swimming pool.
The grounds and garden are kept ship shape by an expert local gardener who came to water some of the plants. The swimming pool is also checked on regular basis and kept clean.
It is a perfect spot for star gazers (like me) and a good week to see the many meteor showers...we were lucky as there was no Moon and we were able to see the Milky Way!
Good pad to explore the surrounding areas.
The owner was always very helpful and quick with his replies and happy to give all the possible information about the area and the house.
It was 8 (2 families) of us and we are all very, very happy to recommend this property for a family holiday. There is plenty of space for everyone!!!
Thanks to Neil for opening his gorgeous house to us!!!
Ciao a presto
