About Annie Maret
We live in Chamonix in the heart of the French Alps where we have brought up our three children who are now flying the nest at lightening speed. We have been running a luxury transport business with airport transfers to resorts in winter and summer as well as excursions and music tours for musicians on their European tours since 1985. We spend many of our holidays in Flayosc with family and friends and when we can't be there we love to rent it to others so they can experience the wonderful setting and atmosphere where total relaxation is guaranteed. Laurent is an amateur drummer, a jazz connoisseur and a passionate fisherman when time permits and when time doesn't permit he contents himself with close examinations of his vast collection of flies ! I love many sports and for now I regularly swim, run and walk our adorable wire haired teckel, Bretzel. I can't live without yoga and since becoming a vegetarian over 6 years ago and inspired by our two vegan daughters, I'm enjoying the huge benefits of a dairy free way of living. My life long love of cooking is soaring to new heights with the challenge and we are thriving on it !
Annie Maret purchased this Villa in 2003
Why Annie Maret chose Flayosc
We bought Le Mas Savoye because Laurent, my husband grew up in the back country of La Côte d'Azur and we have always wanted to put down some roots here. We love the proximity of the house to the village, the relaxation it gives us, the possibility to eat out without having to take the car or just be at home enjoying all our meals outside. Between the sea and Les Gorges de Verdon, the vineyards and the markets, there really is something for everyone, whether you are a toddler or a grandparent, a teenager or an overworked parent. You cannot fail to have a thoroughly enjoyable holiday. The house is our family home and feels like it. In that way it is an unusual rental.

Wonderful house, amazing pool with facilities and in a great location
The location of le Mas Savoye was one of the reasons we chose this villa and it didn’t disappoint. Located within 5 mins walk of the town, with its restaurants, boulangeries, mini supermarket and Monday market was perfect. It is a steep walk up into Flayosc but relaxing walk downhill home! Whilst there are other villas around you are not overlooked at all, but you can hear sound from the neighbours and nearby main road, mostly at rush hour.
The villa was as exactly as described on the website, really well equipped and homely, lots of games and books available too. Fans in the bedrooms were invaluable as the temperature reached 36 degrees and there is no air conditioning. The ‘Laurier’ twin bedroom was particularly hot at night. The numerous seating areas were fab, something for everyone but don’t forget your insect spray as the little beasties are active day and night in the summer!
The pool was excellent, large and well equipped with loungers and parasols. The loo, shower and fridge in the pool house were a real bonus. Pool towels were much appreciated too, saving valuable space in our suitcases.
There is an information book in the big lounge to help plan your stay. Day trips to Salernes and Sillans la Cascade are recommended if you don’t want to go far and Lac de Sainte Croix is worth a visit (about 1 hour drive). Annie recommended the Base d’Etoile side just over the bridge but get there by 9am otherwise the queues for canoes and pedaloes are huge and the gorge is like the M25!
The arrival and departure were managed by Monique, a lovely local lady, but with NO English. It was fun trying to communicate with her and Annie is on the end of the phone if needed (and the gardener speaks good English if you meet him!) A couple of issues (with the hot water and a toilet) were sorted out quickly and efficiently which we were really impressed with.
Thank you for a fantastic villa, we will definitely recommend it to all of our friends.
Thanks Jenny for your kind comments. So glad to hear you loved our home and your family had such a wonderful time. It would be lovely to have you or your friends back in the future. A bientôt Annie
Sun, swims, space, shade, sights...
...and of course food and wine!
Le Mas Savoye is well located a few minutes (downhill) from the centre of Flayosc - not a touristy village but with good restaurants and plenty of shops. It's on the edge of delightful scenery and within comfortable reach of the sights of inland Var and the Cote d'Azur. You need a car, though there are buses to Draguignan and the TGV at Les Arcs.
There are houses around, but it isn't overlooked and feels really private (there's a bit of distant traffic noise at times).
The pool is a suntrap, but there's plenty of parasols, and the extensive terraced gardens are delightful with plenty of shade and lots of space - we only used 2 of the 5 separate tables!
The house is excellently equipped, with interesting furniture, and well looked-after; the new pool house is a brilliant idea, and encouraged us to spend rather more time by the pool than we might have done.
We were there as 4 couples, and it suited us well (though one room is a twin), and we're certainly considering a repeat in a couple of years' time; it would be brilliant for 2 families too (though not for toddlers or less mobile people).
And, apart from the obvious tourist sights, the new wine co-op at the bottom of the hill is well worth a visit, especially if you plan to bring wine back home.
Thanks for your great review. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay and hope to welcome you back one day. We do in fact have many toddlers and we provide baby and toddler equipment free of charge. There are many toys, books and puzzles for them too. The upside for toddlers too is that the shallow end of the pool is only 80cm in depth allowing them to grow with confidence. For our less mobile guests we have installed railings around all the garden steps. In the house there are hand rails up the main stairs as well as along the side of the bath.
Fantastic setting in beautiful gardens
The house and garden were perfect for our family, giving both quiet and fun areas for both adults and children. All the facilities were fantastic and the owner had clearly thought about all the little details. The pool house was so useful especially with a useable kitchen there. And only a short walk to the village with all the amenities you could want plus some good bars and restaurants. A wonderful holiday that we will definitely repeat!
So happy to hear you loved our home and that you got the most out of the new summer kitchen by the pool. We look forward to welcoming you back.
A perfect family holiday
We were a party of 10 with grandparents and teenagers. We had such a relaxing and also busy time - there was something to suit everyone's temperament: relaxing on a sun bed to read by the pool or up on the terrace under the shade of the big tree or jumping in the car and driving down to the beach or up to the Gorges du Verdon. And then every day someone would walk into the village (all of 5 minutes) to get the bread, a paper, a postcard, something from the friendly chemist. The Mums would sneak a quick coffee in the village before returning home!! A very good choice of places to eat to suit all budgets. Local walks were easy and interesting and the pool occupied the teenagers brilliantly - they took over the pool house with their music and card playing!
The house itself is charming. A very well equipped kitchen and comfortable bedrooms. We would definitely come back and would recommend to friends of all ages. Thank you for a wonderful week.
Glad to hear you had a such a lovely holiday and all age groups were happy - never an easy task!
Séjour de 2 nuits splendide dans cette villa cosy au cœur du var
Contente’ que vous avez passé un bon moment chez nous.
Villa magnifique, piscine immense
Situated between Draguignan with its' daily market and Salernes, famous for its' ceramics. The Château de Berne is worth a visit to and is fitted with new spa facilities. Entrecasteaux is an ancient village with an 11th century castle which you can visit. The river Bresque runs through the village and you can fish locally. There are many artisans at work in the village but the vineyards and olive plantations remain the village's main occupation. If you can find the jiggly road off to the right from the main road that leads to Lorgues from Flayosc you will delight in the wonderful vineyards and olive groves as well as the beautiful approach to Entrecasteaux. Cotignac is nestled at the end of a valley tucked in behind an enormous and famous rock (the descent down to the village is impressive) and there is a waterfall cascading down from the rock. The village is considered one of the most attractive in the Var and is well worth a visit. Tourtour is known as the village in the sky - a long windy road up to the village is rewarded with the most spectacular views to the sea. A pretty village with an interesting church to visit, many restaurants and artists displaying their work. L'Abbaye du Thoronet is a one of the three Cistercian 11th century houses in Provence full of purity and sobriety and well worth a half day visit. Guided tours are available. There are many local Provençal markets to choose from - Vidauban, Bargemon, St Tropez, Le Muy, Fréjus, Brignoles, Tour Tour - Lorgues and Aups being our favourites. The famous beaches of La Côte d'Azur are from 40 minutes drive, where you can visit Ste Maxime or St Tropez. L'Escalet (where Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was filmed) which is just over an hour's drive is the most beautiful "presque-île" where you can walk along the cliffs for 20 minutes and spend the day on two deserted beaches, known only to locals. The fabulous Gorges du Verdon are a 50 minute drive where canoes, kayaks and pedalos can be hired for the day with wonderful swimming possibilities. Don't miss the chance to visit Moustiers Sainte Marie - a delightful village on the edge of Les Gorges with a worthwhile climb up to the village church. Les Calanques at Cassis, Colorado of Provence near Rustrel for day trips or if you are on for a road tour adventure, leave very early in the morning and have your first coffee and croissant in Cannes. Move on to Antibes, then a pan bagnat for lunch in the port of St Jean Cap Ferrat finishing up on the F1 circuit in Monte Carlo. On a scorching day, a visit to the river at Montferrat where you can swim in the river and for the more daredevil, rock jumping into the deep rock pools is an exhilarating experience. For the walkers among you, climb up to the church perched on the hill above the river and ring the church bell. There is a tennis club in Flayosquet, a 5 minute drive from Le Mas Savoye. Golf, horseriding, canoeing are nearby. There is an Aquapark at Ste Maxime. Le Lac Sainte Croix and Les Gorges du Verdon offer swimming, rock climbing and sailing. There are numerous musical events during the summer with well known artists and lots of jazz famously at Ramatuelle.
