Aou Forgeron is a traditional Gersoise farmhouse situated on the edge of a hamlet set in spectacular countryside. The area is characterised with rolling countryside, large deciduous forests to walk or cycle in, and wonderful views of the Pyrenees which are within easy driving distance. A key feature of the property is the two wrap around terraces giving excellent opportunities to enjoy outdoor living and alfresco easting whether seeking sun or shade. There is a soft seating area from which you can enjoy an aperitif as you watch the sun go down, in addition there are ample loungers, reclining chairs, umbrella and a charcoal barbeque.Masseube is 10 minutes by car and has an excellent supermarket providing all your grocery, fuel and wine needs, Mirande, a typical bastide town is 15 minutes drive; both have weekly markets. The regional capital Auch is 20 minutes by car, with its impressive, recently renovated cathedral, maze of small streets with smart shops and cafes and regular brocante and weekly markets.
We are Patricia and Eddie and live in Belfast. We have owned our property for 10 years and have spent a great deal of time renovating and improving the house to make it into very comfortable and inviting holiday accommodation. Tricia is a keen collector of interesting furniture and objects, and some are
dotted around the house giving it a very individual feel. The house is private, set in lovely countryside, but is not isolated, with easy access to shopping, fuel and so on. We are very happy to talk by phone or email to give you any additional information you may need. Just email or post your contact number and we will call you.
On arrival we were met by the house managers who were so helpful. The property is beautiful and trust me, the photo's don't do it justice. We love the garden and the pool where my kids spend the majority of their time while at the property. For me having WiFi and a decent bed made all the difference.
The kitchen is fully equipped and a decent BBQ was very welcome.
I cannot recommend this property enough and may well return in a couple of years.
We have recently returned from a 2 week stay in this wonderfully relaxing property. It is a credit to both the owners and the property manager that it has such a calm and relaxing atmosphere. If you are looking for an action packed, 24/7 party venue this may not be for you, although there is plenty to be done with mountain biking, walking and kyaking being on the doorstep. If you want to get away from everything and have some quality down time this has to be top of the list.
This is truly a home from home in that, although the house is very stylish and well funished, it doesn't feel that you are staying in a sterile show home. The owners have obviously put a lot of time and thought into the presentation. Being a bit of a foodie the kitchen was a highlight for me, being well equiped and open plan onto a lovely sitting room. The bedrooms were all very comfortable with plenty of storage so that unpacking didn't leave piles of clothes on chairs. A couple of evenings we made use of the lounge to watch a couple of films via Wi-Fi, which was generally good in the main part of the house.
The local area is pretty rural but the small town of Maseube is only a 10 minute drive away where there is a good supermarket, chemist, bakers and bars/restaurants. The locals are very friendly and laid back and this is definitely a very traditional part of France. A little further afield is Auch which is well worth a visit. Great restaurants in the upper town and the cathederal is well worth a visit for the achitecture as much as any other reason. Even my YouTube and Pokemon Go obsessed son was impressed.
As we travelled with our 2 teenagers we were a little worried about being out in the sticks but the kids loved the pool as well as the abundance of spaces in and around the house where they could chill out. The outside areas are brilliant, we ate all our meals on the covered verandah and the L shaped sofa is an ideal spot to enjoy a glass of wine and the amazing sun sets. The pool is perfect for cooling off as it can get pretty warm during the day, we saw over 30 degs most days, and you can even manage a proper swim.
There really isn't anything we could wish for to make this property a better destination and even an issue with the fridge was quickly resolved. We have now been to France for the last 5 years and this is head and shoulders above the other properties we have stayed in. We will definitely be returning.

A great stay at this lovely house.Just perfect.Everything you could need in a holiday home.So well equipped.Gardens and outside seating area good even when the weather wasn't perfect.Very suitable for our dog.The pool was superb sun for most of the day.
Not far to shops and restaurants and also a day out to the mountains is a easy drive.
Just a perfect break.Good value for money and internet a add bonus.
My wife and I stayed for a week with another couple and everyone had a very good time in the gite and appreciated the high specifications, level of cleanliness, well kept grounds and how spacious it was inside and out. Indeed I enjoyed myself despite injuring my knee while hiking in a way that put me on crutches for the last 4 days. I can't think of greater testimony than that! I was grateful that the owners got in touch with a neighbour who kindly lent me crutches until I could buy my own.
There were several nice touches to the gite that we appreciated. The covered patio provided useful shelter from the sun or light rain. The ground outside front of the gite is perfect for boules.
We had our labrador with us and I would say that the gite is well suited for dogs and their owners. The gite is not 100% enclosed, but it's close. The main gap is on the left of the extensive back garden. This leads to hiking trails and woodland away from the house, (i.e. no danger) and the road coming back towards the house. The traffic around the gite, (and indeed the whole district) is very light, so very little risk there either.
The pool was good fun and pretty warm too.
One downside to the gite was the tight spiral staircase leading to one of the upstairs bedroom. My sister in law and her husband slipped a few times on that. The bathroom was a little slippy in places too.
We had a fantastic stay at Aou Forgeron. The house is very comfortable and very well equipped, it is in a great location for peace and quiet, and yet not too far from shops and restaurants etc. We (but especially our dog) loved the large garden - complete with red squirrel! and the pool was just right too.
We had a fabulous holiday here and would definitely recommend it!
Stunning, spacious property in a lovely part of Gascony. We were so lucky to find this property by chance when looking for a place as a base for my family attending a wedding in Gascony. The owners were so helpful and easy to contact during our stay. The house was clean and well equipped for family dining. Great rooms and space inside the property but the best part of this property was the outside space. Surrounded by beautiful fields the garden was gorgeous, quiet and tranquil. It had a great pool and wonderful space for family dining on the terrace and drinks watching the sunset. A lovely place and we had such a great holiday! Thank you again!
Special interest holidays:
One of the most striking aspects of the area is the number and types of birds of prey, which would be excellent for anyone interested in birdwatching. The diversity and sheer scale of this part of France gives artists, photographers, walkers and sports people unlimited opportunity to pursue their interests.
The Atlantic and Mediterranean are around two and a half to three hours drive.
Toulouse is one hour fifteen minutes and there also are flights from many other UK airports. Options include Pau, Biarritz, Carcasonne, and Bordeaux. Car hire is essential.
Masseube is 10 minutes drive; Mirande 15 minutes. The area is surrounded by lots of small towns and villages each with their own activities, fairs, markets etc. The area is world famous for its jazz and country and western festivals in summer at Marciac and Mirande.
