Casa na Colina is a Madeiran family house with easy, level access to the upper floor containing the oak-floored sitting room with picture window and wood burning fireplace, the master en-suite double bedroom, 2 twin bedrooms and main family bathroom. A beautiful marble staircase leads to the lower floor with another en-suite double bedroom and the kitchen and dining area. From here doors lead out to the veranda and garden with its panoramic sea views offering peace and quiet. Surpassed all expectations
This is the 6th or 7th villa that I've rented but the first time I've ever left a review. I'd spent a very long time choosing Na Colina - because of taking my 90yr old mother to an island built on the side of a mountain I needed somewhere that didn't involve steep climbs twixt car parking, bedroom, bathroom etc. Jayne (the villa's owner) was really helpful beforehand - quick to respond to my endless questions on email.
Baaaad journey from the uk when the plane couldn't land and had to be diverted; however, the sainted Catarina waited up until nearly midnight to welcome us into an amazing house where she had provided emergency hot food, cold wine and the reassurance that she could help with any and everything for the rest of our holiday.
We shopped, cooked (fantastically equipped kitchen) and ate in every lunchtime. The supermarket in Calhetta on the sea front sells good cheap wine, clams, great fresh veg and Madeira cake. Then scoured TA for cafes in the evening; by FAR the best of which was Bar O Ideal in Punto do Mar. Altogether had an excellent break thanks to the wonderful house, the peaceful pool, the location, and Catarina's generous efficiency.
Comfortable house with the swimming pool and beautiful view
The house is really great! It is well organised and spacious enough for 2 families, very well equipped, there is evth you need for 2 weeks of holidays. Catarina, the house keeper was very helpful, we received a very warm welcome from her. The location of the house- around Calheta - also to be recommended -easy access to most of Madeira's attractions including the most beautiful levadas and the sandy beach.
Excellant villa in a perfect location
We were after a chilled holiday this year and this villa made it the perfect place to have it. The villa is large, well laid out and had everything we needed, from numerous towels, a brilliantly stocked kitchen (we made use of the lunchboxes a few times) and other little touches that made it perfect. The welcome from Catarina and the welcome pack were lovely and it was no trouble for her to get us some items so we didn't have to venture straight to the shops. Nothing was too much trouble for Catarina, a broken umbrella, replaced within the hour. The views from the villa are exceptional and the pool was used daily for a welcome relief from the very warm weather. With lots of very steep roads around you need a fairly decent car to get about. The little bar/shop 2 minutes walk from the villa does lovely lunches which we enjoyed 3 times. We arrived in Festival time and although during the second week the sound system from the church nearly drove us mad, the festival was great. Such great attention to details and we enjoyed a great night there before we left. We enjoyed some lovely trips out. The Nuns retreat, Porto Moniz, Calheta, Paul da Serra and walks from Levada Nova near the villa (park near the hotel, makes it easier to start), to name a few. A day out in Funchal with a trip up the cable car to Monte and the toboggan run back down was expensive but great and worth it. Recommendations for places to eat, New Era, Manifattura Di Gelato, Convento Das Vinhas and Restaurnate O Forno. Fancy a drink, walk to Sem Idade or the Pukiki Bar (lovely cocktails), both walkable from the villa. A fantastic holiday in a lovely location and highly recommend. Madeira is a beautiful island.
Great to hear that you had an enjoyable stay at Casa na Colina and in the local bars! Catarina will be particularly glad that she made your holiday that bit more special.
A wonderfully peaceful and fully equipped villa
We chose this villa because we wanted a relaxing holiday. Relax we did! The villa is spacious and excellently kitted out. The pool and the view are gorgeous. We gather there may be renovations ahead which will only make it even more exceptional. We read in one of the visitor book comments that a visitor had stayed in 4 villas on Madeira and this had been the best one.
The owner is very helpful indeed, and the caretaker phenomenally helpful and warm - cannot do enough for you, well beyond the call of duty.
So pleased you had a relaxing time. My caretaker, Catarina is always very keen to make sure that our guests have the best experience possible for their holiday. She is a real treasure! Jayne (owner)
Beautiful villa on a beautiful island
Lovely villa set in a beautiful setting over the Atlantic. The house was well equipped with everything you need for a self catering holiday. Great pool area with sun beds and BBQ, plus shaded area. It was a little windy at times as we were up highbut the view makes up for it. A car is necessary for getting around and some of the hills and roads are a bit hairy for the inexperienced (us!) so be aware. Make sure you get a powerful car, but a small one if possible as the side roads are narrow. There is a lovely little tiki bar 'Pukiki' about 25mins walk (for the fit) from the house. It serves fab cocktails and is very friendly. Caterina our host was extremely welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed for the week, including a supply of all the essential goods. She lives round the corner and is on hand if you need her. All in all a great, relaxing stay, with some unseasonably hot weather!
I am so pleased you had a good time at my house - and at the Pukiki bar! I hope that Catarina and I will have the chance to welcome you back to the island another time. Jayne (owner).
Fantastic location for an extremely spacious villa. The sunsets are to die for. We received a warm welcome from Catarina who gave us a guided tour of the villa which was spotless despite the previous nights storm. I would recommend this villa to anyone who wants a relaxing holiday in comfortable surroundings.
So glad you enjoyed the view of the sun setting over the sea - it is one of our favourite things about the villa. Catarina and I would both love to welcome you back again another time.
Coast/Beach: The white sandy beach at Calheta is only 5 minutes away by car, where there are plenty of cafes, restaurants, banks, the marina and a supermarket. The gently shelving white sands are ideal for the youngest of bathers while the deep game fishing based at the marina will satisfy the more adventurous. Travel: The recent road, tunnel and bridge developments on Madeira make for an easy 30-minute journey to Funchal or 50 minutes to the airport. Distances: The nearby towns and villages on the south coast- Ribeira Brava (15 minutes drive) or Jardim do Mar (5 minutes) - make an interesting change from either the dramatic north coastal attractions at Santana (1.5 hours) Porto Moniz (1 hour) or Sao Vincente (1 hour) or the mountainous interior of Pico Arreiro (1.5 hours) or Paul da Serra (30 minutes). Further Details: A small general store and cafe/bar are only a few minutes walk along a flat , level road. The owner here is very helpful and speaks good English.
