Excellent choice for exploring Amalfi Coast and beyond!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for four nights at the end of September and had a wonderful experience. Adriano makes himself as available as possible and has many good suggestions for making your stay enjoyable. Relatively quiet but not at all sleepy, Salerno is a welcome relief to come back to each day after dealing with the crush of tourists and retail overload on the Amalfi Coast and Capri. The apartment is clean and comfortable and extremely well located just a block from the Duomo, 10-15 minutes walking to either the big or small port for catching boats and ferries to Positano, Amalfi or Capri; 20 minutes walk from the main train and bus stations, and 10 minutes walk to the smaller train station (Via Vernieri-Duomo) where you can catch a train to Pompeii or Naples. (If you use the smaller train station, you must buy your tickets from the small grocery store behind it as there is no ticket window, then validate/stamp your ticket in the machine at the entrance to the station--if the machine is working.) There is a very good pizzeria called Salerosa with the best antipasto plate of cheeses and prosciutto and other cold cuts that we had anywhere, a friendly neighborhood bar (Aldo and his wife are the owners) in the same block as the apartment and many other restaurants within easy walking distance. We had an especially good meal at Bacchanalia, not the big touristy place on Via Roma, but a small lower level enoteca behind it on Via Portacatena (?). Points of interest that we enjoyed in Salerno: the Duomo, Giardino di Minerva, the ports and the walk along the seaside promenade.

Look no further this apartment is great value

The apartment was exactly as described and was ideal for our two week stay in Salerno. Adriano was very helpful and when we did have a problem he fixed it for us straight away. We used the local buses and train services to get around which were fine so long as you allow enough time if you are on a deadline. Remember to validate your ticket in the machine on the bus or on the train platform at the beginning of your journey. We visited all of the following sites by bus or train, Pompei, Herculaneum, Paestum, Castle Arechi and the Commonwealth War Cemetary near Battipaglia. From the airport in Naples take the Alibus shuttle to the Centrale station then trains to Salerno run every half hour. Adriano will meet you at the station if possible but if not you can walk to the apartment easily along the Corso Vittorio Emanuele in about 20 minutes if you have suitcases. The apartment has all that you need if self catering but the streets are narrow and parking is not easy if you have a car. We used the small local shops who were friendly and happy to see you especially if you used them more than once. The apartment is good value and in the centre of town and an excellent base for exploring the area.

Love. Love. Love.

I was so sad to leave this fantastic apartment! We spent 6 days here and it was perfect. The apartment is well appointed and incredibly spacious, the bed and sofa super comfortable. The building has an incredible history but is thoroughly modernized, giving you the best of both worlds. Locals told me fascinating stories about the building itself, and the street it's on, which makes the experience even richer.

You absolutely cannot beat the location. One block from the duomo, in the heart of the historic center of Salerno, walking distance both from the oceanfront and all the bars and restaurants. The area is incredibly chic, artsy, fun and also not touristy. You really feel like you are experiencing local life when you stay here, and it is wonderful!!

Adriano is a tremendous host. Super helpful, super friendly, super knowledgeable, always smiling. He is also a local trekking guide for the entire Amalfi Coast. Next time we come to Salerno I am going to book him to take us on some excursions, including the pathway of the gods. Even if you are not staying in Salerno, contact him about day trips!

We will absolutely stay here again, hopefully for a couple of weeks next time.

Convenient base in central Salerno.

  • 4 of 5

A 1st floor apartment with all the facilities listed and plenty of room for us (a couple). Everything on the same floor. Convenient location with everything within walking distance. Shops and restaurants just outside to big doors. Free parking less than 200m away. Polite and very helpful host. Recommended.

Excellent, Spacious Apartment in Old Salerno!

  • 4 of 5

Our stay in Salerno was wonderful! This is a great apartment in an even better location. Old Salerno is beautiful, quaint and filled with character. Adriano was a great host and provided us with plenty of recommendations to enjoy in Salerno, as well as tips as how to avoid the tourist traps outside the city. The apartment itself is incredibly spacious, with a small terrace, big kitchen, spacious bathroom, and a nice big bed! The location is lovely with only a short walk to the ocean, surrounding restaurants, and Pino's enoteca, which was an absolutely lovely little shop with cheese, meats, bread, wine, groceries and WIFI. We spent a lot of time there as it was literally right up the street. The train station is about a 20 minute walk and can be difficult with luggage in the hot sun (we did it twice, but absolutely doable). The neighborhood is incredibly quaint and lovely, but when the windows are open on the street, you can hear EVERYTHING. It was hot, so we would have loved a fan to keep the doors/windows closed and the apartment cool. Salerno itself, though, is the BEST place to stay when visiting the Amalfi coast. There were virtually NO tourists in the entire city. There is plenty of shopping, eating and drinking to be done. The city does not cater to tourists, so make sure you've been practicing your Italian! It's incredibly easy to access the coast, as well as Pompeii. The Amalfi Coast/Sorrento/Napels receives so many tourists each year, that it is hard to avoid the traps. Salerno is the first step in avoiding those high traffic areas, while seeing a quaint small town, still very accessible to everything there is to offer in this part of Italy.

Location and timing is the key.

  • 4 of 5

After a simple booking the owner, Adriano met us a train station and brought us to the old city which was bustling with activity. A quick walk from the car and 1 flight of stairs brought us to our home for a week. Everything we needed was there and if not he made sure it was asap. Great location in the center of the old city. The neighbourhood is alive with families and the flavour of old Europe.

Shops a plenty. Enough restaurants to tickle your fancy for months. Several small grocery stores within a quick walk with ample fresh produce. Bakeries and Cafes all around. Close to train station and buses. Cheap and efficient way to travel. Don't even waste your time trying to rent a car in Italy. The headaches and stress is just not worth it. His write-up is excellent about the places to visit and all are easy to get to.

Our timing was fantastic. The city has a light festival for the Christmas season called I believe 'Luce Artista'. Basically a fantastic artistic presentation throughout the city of Themed Artistic Light Displays. People from all over the country come here for the festival and we were smack in the middle. My wife and I took hundreds of pictures, never tiring from straining our necks to look around and up at the beautiful displays.

We found Salerno to be perfect for our southern visit and saw everything in the region that was expected from tourists. Amalfi Coast ..check, city ..check.. Sorrento,.check, Naples..check...Pompeii.. check.. Herculaneum..check... Vesuvius... check. Various other Castles, Churches, Museums check check check.

I recommend this apartment for couples and friends alike.
