About the property

Gites near St Sauveur le Vicomte, Manche, Normandy - In the Heart of the Cherbourg Peninsula

The Hope Cottage gites are ideally set in the middle of the Cherbourg Peninsula, only 25 minutes drive from Cherbourg Port. We are located in a small village called St Colombe, 10 minutes from Valognes and 5 mins Saint Sauveur le Vicomte, where there are many shops, restaurants and cafes. There are markets almost everyday in the surrounding area. There are several ideal fishing locations close by including a well stocked private lake (with Carp!) and 'La Douve' river - licences can be organised on your behalf if required! This is the perfect setting for a quiet break away from it all, with beautiful countryside and beaches to explore by foot, cycle or car. The beautiful west coast beaches at Carteret and Port Bail are just a 15 minute drive away whilst the famous D-Day Normandy beaches and museums are approximately 20 minutes drive away. The lovely gardens have a new heated swimming pool and children's play area including a full size Chess set.

About Amanda Thompson

Hi, my name is Amanda. My husband, Mark and I moved here with our girls aged 9 and 11 to experience the French lifestyle and give our girls the opportunity of learning another language. My husband works from home via the internet and I run the gites.

We offer a family friendly environment and we accept well behaved dogs.

We are now in our eighth year of running self catering accommodation and I can honestly say that we have had some wonderful families staying with us German, Spanish, English, Scottish, Dutch, Irish, South African, Swedish, French, Icelandic,Israeli, polish and American.

Our girls now 17 and 15 are fully integrated into french schools and the french lifestyle. They look forward to meeting all our guests and making new friends with the

Why Amanda Thompson chose Manche

We love the area, because of its closeness to beautiful beaches, towns and cities. It is ideal to bring up a young family where the pressures of modern day living in the UK are virtually non existant.

Its ease of access to return to the UK via Cherbourg.

We are close to lots of historic WW2 sites and the glorious sandy beaches are only 20 mins away.

Guestbook comments from the owner

'You have made us feel truly welcome in a lovely family friendly atmosphere. It has brought out a confidence in our son that was amazing - he was a different child. The area is gorgeous and we enjoyed the beach at Carteret (stunning!), the town of Granville as well as Valognes. - first class!' (Aug 2009).

'Thank you for a wonderful break. I said I wanted peace and calm and that's what we got! We had a fabulous time - the badminton/rounders...oh what laughs! Loved the chickens. Great hospitality!' (Aug 2009).

'The most relaxing and brilliant holiday destination! A place we will find hard to beat so expect us back! Thank you so much for making us feel so welcome... and the rounders in the dark - PS we want some chickens!' (Aug 2009).

The land is mainly laid to lawn with a stream running alongside it and a pond with frogs on the lower part of the land. Seating areas are scattered around the land for those 'early evening glasses of wine', reading, painting or whatever you want to do. A children's play area is also available.
