The apartment is fitted out to the very best of standards with all high tech luxury fittings and the private patio has commanding views over the sea, beach and small town. The location is perfect for surfing as visitors from all over come to seek the superb conditions just 150m to the beach, so suit family holidays or just to relax and soak up the views or walks. There are plentiful nearby attractions such as Ilfracombe, Croyde Bay, Morthoe, Saunton Sands. Surf schools and life Guards operate on Woolacombe beach to keep you safe. The apartment is equipped with LCD TV, surround sound, DVD, Sky freeview basic package, leather sofa/bed, top spec. Kitchen, use of wet room with wet suit drying and steam room to relax after a day on the beach. The landscaped rear gardens are terraced which rise up to the barbeque areas with other patios that are shared with the other 7 apartments but are sectioned off into private areas that overlook the entire bay. It also comes with private parking.

About The Owner

My wife and I live in Nottinghamshire with our 3 children, we have been going on holiday for years in this unspoilt area prior to us buying, which we feel is the perfect holiday destination.

The Owner purchased this apartment in 2004

Why The Owner chose North Devon

We jumped at the chance to own part of this development with its 5 * feel and location as the blue flag beach and town with its many bars ,restaurants and shops are so close.There is use of a steam room which is very welcome after a day on the beach or surfing. so few places come with such views from the patio and gardens,i hope you enjoy it as much as we all do - from Phil and Julie Robinson.

What makes this apartment unique

One of the most unique benefits of this superbly equipped apartment is to just sit on the patio looking across the beach and out to sea with its surfers until the sun drops into the ocean on the horizon.

A nicely appointed apartment in a very good location.

Initially we were a bit surprised to find the bed was unmade, however, once we had found the bed linen (apart from the bed sheet - which we improvised with a spare duvet cover) that was soon rectified. The bed was very uncomfortable and desperately needs a new mattress.

Whilst there are two large flat screen TVs, sky boxes and DVD players there are no instructions for their operation using the multiple remote controls - some instructions for their use would be helpful.

It would have been nice to find at least a couple of sheets of toilet paper on the premises when we arrived, however, a visit to the local supermarket was necessary immediately we arrived.

Just a bit more attention to detail would have improved our stay at the property.

Owner's Response: Sincere apologies for the uncomfortable bed - we did replace the mattress a few weeks ago, but didn't realise our property manage always turns the mattress after each guest, not realising that the sprung mattress with memory foam topping only has one side to use! Guests are given Matt's number if they have any problems and the made bed could have been resolved within the hour. With regard TV instructions, these are in a basket in the bedroom, and a toilet roll is left when the property is prepared for guests and we sincerely apologise that it wasn't on this occasion. A back up system is now in place and this oversight will not happen again.

Comfortable apartment perfect for a beach holiday

My husband, myself and 13 year old son wanted a beach side apartment so we could spend the days surfing and body boarding without the hassle of having to drive to a beach and all the rigmarole of wetsuits in the car park etc... This was ideal. You can see the beach from the kitchen window, although there are no other views being as the apartment is at the back of the building.There is covered outside hanging space for wetsuits and we stored the boards out of sight by the apartment store room.

The apartment is warm and comfortable with all we needed, though we did buy a kitchen knife as the ones provided could do with sharpening.There is no bath mat to step out on to or even a non slip mat for the bath provided. I am surprised this is not standard even when bringing own towels as it is a safety issue.Washing up liquid, sponge and cloth provided but no dish washer tablets.Oven gloves and tea towel also were provided.No extra bin bags for kitchen bin and the bin is only tiny. We had to buy more.

As mentioned by another reviewer, the bedroom smells strongly of damp, including the bedding. Unfortunately this is why I have rated it a 4 not a 5.

The outside space was well maintained and tidy with great views of the beach. It is ideally situated for the amenities in the town and we did not use the car at all during our stay. The apartment is very quiet and although there were people in the other apartments, we could not hear them through the floors or walls. I would thoroughly recommend this apartment for couples or like us, with one child as its not huge but plenty big enough for 3.

We had a great time and were sad to leave. If the situation arises again, we would definitely re book this property.

Lovely apartment

First impressions of the apartment were brilliant, well positioned and clean. Matthew was extremely helpful.

We had a fantastic time.

Our only criticism was the bed was extremely uncomfortable and small so neither of us slept well during out stay. If it hadn't been for the bed I would given 5+ stars.

The property is as described, close in proximity to the sea. Though it is at the back so very shaded

We stayed at this property last year so had a good idea what to expect. The property was a little damp this year though with slight mildew on the bathroom ceiling and the main bedroom seemed damp. (Our clothes when stored in the wardrobe provided appeared to feel damp after a while and had a strange musty smell, as did the bedding that we used from there). Possibly the apartment hadn't been aired?

The beds, both the main one and the sofa bed seemed to be quite uncomfortable also this year though that could be due to age (not sure if the beds have aged or whether we have, probably a bit of both).

The apartment is well situated for all of the amenities of Woolacombe and has the advantage of a parking facility which helps immensely

Aside from those observations, everything was fine, the apartment was clean and tidy in the main and we had all we needed. This made for a very pleasant holiday. :-)

Week stay in great location

Booking this stay was very straight forward and the owner was very helpful with the admin.This apartment was a great find. It is part of the Southover apartments (no.1). the smallest and would suit a couple or at a push a family of 3 or 4.It was very close to the beach and as advertised very close to the village. The apartment is well equipped and modernly furnished. There are landscaped gardens to the rear and up the stairs affording great views over the bay and also a pleasant suntrap. There is also a BBQ area but the grills were rusted up when we were there and do need replacing.

There are effectively two patios with this apartment, one outside the front door and the other at the front of the building with great views of the bay and again a suntrap later in the afternoon.

We have stayed in Woolacombe many times and this is the best place we have stayed in and would definitely look to book this on our next visit.

Practical and Convenient

Very convenient. A stone's throw from the Barn. Adequate accommodation.

Couple of things to note for other visitors.

The apartment has no view of the sea. It is located at the end of a passageway between two buildings. Having seen the pictures my wife was disappointed with that.

But there is some outside space for boards and suits, buckets and spades. That table and chairs from the main photo is at the head of the passageway and gets the sun when it shines.

The sofa bed is good for a couple of small children.

The local caretaker/manager is really nice and helpful.

Faint smell of mould in the bedroom, probably due to not getting any sunlight and damp and cold during the winter.

Overall I thought it was good value in an over-priced market.

Owner's Response: The apartment is at the rear of the building and there is a view of the bay from the kitchen window, The leather sofa bed in the lounge is double mattress size and is suitable for adults, there are also two put up beds for small children. We will look into the issue of faint damp smell when we cay out our complete annual refurbishment of the apartment.

Approx 150m to Woolacombe’s beach which is a 3 mile long golden sandy/surfing beach that has won the England for excellence, the blue flag, premiere seaside and the gold award best British beach. The beach has surf patrol and life guards as it has some of the best surf conditions in the UK.

The North Devon coast is one of the more easy to drive to destinations as the m5 junction 27 is approx 60 mins drive.

There is private parking to the front for 1 car which is important as it is so close to the beach and town. The nearest restaurant / bar is approx 80m and also overlooks the beach. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels can be provided £3 per towel - bed linen is included for two double beds, put-up single bed linen will be charged at £10. Cleaning included on departure (there is a washing machine/dryer in the kitchen if required to clean them in between). Other: Storage room for the coats, put up bed and high chair, also vacuum cleaner. Communal wet room, wets-suits and surfboard store and use of the large steam room.
