About Pat Ringrow

We consider ourselves so lucky to have found this plot where we built our property and have since had many relaxing holidays in Greece in this most beautiful area of Greece.

Pat Ringrow purchased this house in 2006

Why Pat Ringrow chose Messinia

We fell in love with this part of Greece which is unspoilt by tourism, the local people are just so friendly. Peaceful, quiet, local sandy beaches and stunning views yet we are only a walk or short drive from Koroni with it's harbour side tavernas.

The wild flowers in spring are beautiful, in May 2009 a guest identifed nearly 60 different species of birds including Eagle owl, Peregrine Falcon and Hoopoe.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Extracts from our Visitors Book:

Thank You. We have rented holiday accommodation through for quite a few years now and this is one of the best properties we have stayed in. Even though it doesn't have a pool the wonderful beaches well and truely make up for that......

Lemoni Spiti was delightful. It's so beautifully situated, built and

furnished. We were very kindly met on arrival immediately felt at home. The view was stunning, and the beaches very seductive.

We have found paradise here and have absolutely fallen in love with this villa, the spectacular views and stunning scenery... this has been a magical experience....just incredible.

Beautiful house, fantastic beaches, great food and friendly people. All together making for a relaxing and peaceful holiday.

Lemoni Spiti rapidly became our home...

The perfect place to relax

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful and peacefully relaxing setting. The scent of jasmine is everywhere and Pat has created a lovely garden in all the nooks and crannies and beside the large patio. The gnarled old olives are laden and the young growing fast. "Limoni", figs and almonds surround the house.

The views are to die for - over olives and the sea to Mt Taygetos and the Mani, with sunrise flooding the bedrooms, sitting room and balconies and sunsets tinging pink the mountains across the sea.

As for the house it's very light, well designed and well equipped and decorated. Ideal for one or two couples and with a more than adequate third single bedroom. The main bedrooms are downstairs and have great French windows onto a shady terrace. Upstairs there's a large light sitting/kitchen/dining room again with two pairs of French windows onto a wide balcony round two sides of the house.

If you can bring yourself to move there are good notes, hand drawn maps and excellent suggestions. Two fine sandy beaches are in easy walking distance, many more are further afield and markets, castles, monasteries, mountains, archaeological sites and even shady ravine waterfalls are all around.

A really delightful place

Just a lovely holiday!

  • 4 of 5

"Thank you!, We have rented holiday accommodation through for quite a few years now and this is one of the best properties we've stayed in. Even though it doesn't have a pool! the wonderful beaches well and truly make up for that especially Zaga and Memi. Boat trip around Navarino Bay from Pylos also very enjoyable. Kalamata a waste of time. Favourite restaurant Flisvos in Koroni. Clambering around what's left of the Venetian fortresses in Koroni and Methoni was hot but great. We love this part of Greece!

PS we do also love the window design with shuttersand fly screens."

Top house in top location

  • 5 of 5

We're frequent visitors to Greece, and can't praise Limoni Spiti too much. The location is absolutely superb, with the local beach genuinely eight minutes walk away and really uncrowded even at peak season. We loved it. The local town of Koroni is unspoilt, with just the right amount of tourism to have a decent choice of tavernas and bars. Charakopio, nearby, is a nice authentic Greek village, and we loved Finikounda, around half an hour's spectacular drive away and a little more touristy than our area, but charming. Mostly Greek holiday-makers anyway. With the breathtaking Ancient Messini and waterfalls inland, you couldn't ask for more.

Oh... and has anyone mentioned the view?

Perfection off the beaten track!

  • 4 of 5

Pat and Dave's description of their purpose built holiday home doesn't do justice to the amazing combination of perfect peace with incredible views of the sea, sky and distant mountains across the bay (including the Milky Way on clear nights), with proximity to a choice of wonderful beaches. Our favourite was a short drive away at Peroulia, where the children spent hours snorkelling and watching the fish in the crystal clear waters off a beautiful, gently shelving sandy beach. For myself, I swam a bit and read a lot and made full use of the bar/taverna and sun loungers. There is plenty of culture if you want it, and we really enjoyed chatting with the extremely friendly and helpful locals as we pottered about the local towns and villages. We saw a wild tortoise, but not at the property - it was up near Ancient Messeni. At the property we did see some interesting birds including Hoopoe and buzzards.

Dave and Pat were both incredibly helpful, answering all my questions promptly and making helpful recommendations for our travel plans. One word of caution: make sure you arrive in daylight, as although the track to the property is fine when you know it, it may be a bit tricky to negotiate for a first time in the dark. (But Pat and Dave do provide photos of the tricky bit with their excellent directions to the property so you know you are in the right place!).

Local tavernas are generally a short drive away and all provided great food at very reasonable prices. we have never eaten out so much on a family holiday! We were a little concerned about not having a pool, but the beaches are so good and so nearby this really was not a problem for any of us.

Thank you Pat & Dave

There are many sandy beaches nearby the nearest of which is a quiet beach 8 minutes walk though the olive grove then down & along a short track past lemon and orange trees. You may be lucky enough to see a tortoise on the way. Turtles have seen swimming close to our local beach, in Koroni harbour and hatching on Zaga beach.

Zaga, Memi and Peroulia are nearby sandy beaches within 10 minutes drive with shady beach side tavernas and stunning mountain views.

Our house is a 45 minute drive on quiet rural roads from Kalamata and accessed from the road via a concrete driveway. Check Easyjet, BA & Thomas Cook for flights from UK April to Oct.

Alternatively consider a flight to Athens then an easy 150ml drive with stunning scenery on quiet motorways to Kalamata.

We can help you with all travel arrangements, locate the cheapest flights, car hire and if required help with overnight B&B accommodation on arrival at Athens airport where Theodore will meet you.

Koroni and Methoni castles are Venetian castles which were once the eyes of Venice surveying the shipping lanes between the Adriatic and Crete. Pylos with its wonderful square is a must see and is a 45 minute drive from Koroni with the idylic bay of Voidokilia a further 15 minutes drive. Ancient Olympia is approximately 2.5 hours drive and spectacular Ancient Messini is 1 hours drive. A wonderful area for touring the many archaeological sites.

Further Details:

Koroni is a delightful harbourside town with numerous friendly harbourside tavernas and cafes but little spoilt by tourism. Koroni has two banks with cash machines, a post office, bakeries, butchers, grocery shops, patisseries, newsagents, pharmacy and a health centre, everything you need for a self catering holiday.

Koroni's Sunday morning fruit and vegetable market is worth a visit.

Windsurfing, sea kayaking and sailing are available on Memi beach.

Painting/drawing sessions available locally. Scuba diving, fishing trips and boat hire are available in Pylos. Sailing trips in the Gulf of Messini are now available with Lazy Sailing.
