About the property

3 Beautiful Holiday Homes

Casa do Pepe (Sleeps up to 7) and La Casita (Sleeps 2), are fully restored traditional stone buildings while the self-contained Granny Flat (Sleeps 4 or 5) forms the ground floor of the owners house. The homes are located in the very quiet hamlet of Castrotañe with views across the river Sil to the distant mountains. The village is close to local facilities with golf, fishing, swimming pools, childrens' playgrounds, river beach, bars, restaurants and shops all within a five mile radius. The closest restaurant/ bar/shop is less than 2km away. The village of Castrotañe is in the Ribeira Sacra, one of the most beautiful parts of South Lugo and Ourense. The area provides interest to walkers, wine lovers, wild life enthusiasts, architecture, bird watchers, fishermen and golfers to name a few. Further afield, Ourense with its old city and famous thermal baths, is 45km, Lugo, a walled city, 65km, the coast a 2 hour drive, Santiago de Compostella 1.5 hours by car (longer on foot!) and Portugal too is only a day trip away.

Booking Notes:
All our prices are in euros. We ask for a 25% non refundable deposit to secure the booking and the balance is due 1 month before arrival, or by arrangement, and is also not refundable .

Changeover Day:
Our preferred changeover day is Saturday, especially during the high season. Arrival time is after 4pm and departure time is before 11am. However these are flexible subject to occupancy.

Notes on prices:
Prices are for the property per week in euros.
Long winter lets are available between September and March, please contact the owner for prices.

Notes on accommodation: Casa do Pepe has a pellet stove as well as a woodburning range cooker. There is a comfortable put-u-up bed for an extra guest and a baby´s cot. If you require other things (high chairs etc) please ask the owner whether they can be provided. Outside: Casa do Pepe has its own private enclosed yard with an open fronted barn and bread oven as well as a separate terrace. There is a gas bar-b-q and garden furniture. The grounds around the house are shared with La Casita and accessed by the owner (who lives in the village) for necessary maintenance purposes during lets.

Unforgettable holiday

First visit to Galicia, and what a treat. Completely different to other areas of Spain we have been to, but the holiday was made by the beautiful Casa do Pepe. Sympathetic and high quality barn conversion with all possible amenities. We were very lucky that our 2-week holiday coincided with a heatwave, which gave us the opportunity to visit. River cruises, local towns and villages, cycling, walking and relaxing in the sun, plus lovely local food and wine in bars and restaurants in the area. Thanks to Penelope for making our stay so lovely.

River Beaches are approximately 5km and 15km. There are 4 Summer swimming pools close by, Ferreira de Panton (4km) Escairon (5km), Sober (15km) and Monforte (7km) and an indoor one in Montforte as well. The closest coast is around 1.5 hours away by car. However the whole of the Galician coast is spectacular and well worth a visit.

Or drive into the mountains, visit the chestnut forests or the roman gold mines

Airports: Santiago de Compostella about 1.5 hrs by car. A Coruna 2 hours. Vigo 1.5 hours. Oporto 3 hours. There are also airports at Asturias and Vallodolid.

Ferry Travel: Bilbao and Santander are a 6-7 hour drive.

Train: Monforte de Lemos with connections to the whole of Spain. Local trains to Ourense

Bus: Monforte de Lemos with connections to the whole of Spain.

Further Details:

There are supermarkets, shopping, banking and eating facilities in all of the towns close by. The larger supermarkets are in Monforte de Lemos and are open Monday to Saturday all day. Each town also has a market day, the best, locally, being in Monforte on 24th of the month and Escairon on 8th.

There is a good Hospital in Monforte de Lemos. Our local GP/Doctor is in Ferreira de Panton, as is a dentist. There are other dentists in Monforte de Lemos. There are chemists in all the towns.
