Nice villa in a great location
We stayed for a week in September. The villa is in an excellent location, supermarket 3 minutes walk and the beach about 10 minutes. It has a private pool which we enjoyed using each day as the weather was very hot. It was well equipped and had everything we needed to cook some meals. It does not have air conditioning, but it was well supplied with fans for each room. 2 of the bed rooms have shutters which keeps the rooms reasonably cool, but the third bedroom have only a light curtain and the heat built up there during the day which made it a bit uncomfortable to sleep in at night despite the fan. The mattresses in the smallest bedroom were for me too hard. The others were fine. That room is also very small and really only suitable for 1 adult. The floors around the pool area and the balcony could have been cleaner, but after telling the manager she arranged for another brief clean inside. But the outside we swept and washed ourselves. Overall we enjoyed our stay, and would return.
villa Darcy was as described clean and well presented. The whol process went very smoothly and communication with Louise was super we had a few issues with kitchen equipment missing but after a call to Louise these were provided the next day. Over all we had a good stay as a family unfortunitly it was an issue with no steps into pool as my wife and I are are in our late 70's it was a struggle the younger members would come again.I would recommend this villa but only able bodied people.
Lovely Villa/Great Location
Great villa, well equipped & great location in a quiet area yet a few minutes walk to local shops, bars & restaurants.
This property had everything you could wish for. Ideally situated near the sea, shops and restaurants. The only thing we missed was the awning. The villa itself was nice and clean but the pool area could have done with a wash down. Everything else was great and Louise was very friendly too.
lovely property close to amenities and beach
Good villa, great location , everything you need supplied for cooking . Pool area and balconies sunny all day . Pool was still not working when we where there but apart from that we had a lovely stay , all the beds were brand new and apartment looked freshly painted and was spotless .
Not very good.
When we arrived we had to wipe everything down because there was a layer of dust everywhere.
While I understand that there had been torrential rain the previous week I did not expect to arrive on the Monday to find the pool area covered in silt and foliage or the pool it's self. This was not cleaned until the Thursday after we arrived. We also paid for it to be heated, so you can imagine our surprise when we jumped in to find it freezing cold. Maintenance came and put the heater on only to have it short out all the power in the villa and while I was in the middle of a shower. Maintenance came back to sort it out, but the same thing continued to happen. We were promised the heater would be repaired, but it didn't happen while we were there. So no pool. When the cleaner came, they arrived and left within 6 minutes. A quick figure of 8 on the lounge floor changed the towels, and gone.
Before we left as we always do we stripped the beds and to my absolute horror, the quilt was covered in hair, but the mattress topper had body fluids on it, and then I checked the mattress and it looked like something you would find on the side of the road. I was so disgusted I took photographs.
On our arrival we were greeted with a bottle of wine, but we still had to wash the glasses before we could use them because of the greasy fingerprints all over them. Otherwise everything thing else was fine. The proximity to the seafront and promenade is perfect, also for the local bus service.
Beaches in Puerto del Carmen can be reached by walking. The nearest beach to the villa is within 5 minutes walking distance, whilst the furthest beach would take approximately 30 minutes to walk to. 15/20 mins will take you to los pocillos which offers a range of water sports. The same amount of time in the other direction takes you to the main sunbathing beach, whilst in the harbour area (approx 30 mins) there is a small beach with scuba diving school. All have plenty of sunbeds and showers.
There is only one airport on the island and that is Arrecife Airport. It is approximately 7/10 minutes drive from the villa, although a car is not essential as local taxis are available all the time. They are efficient, on time and relatively inexpensive. Due to the exchange rates at the moment about 15 euros.
It is possible to book trips to see the island but hire a car for 3 days and you can see all the island easily. A must is Timanfaya national park and the Volcanoes. Take the trip around the top of the volcanoes by bus. See also Jameos del Agua and Cuevos Verdes, walk out under the sea in the caves. Try El golfo, the green lagoon, and the Sunday market at Teguise. Go for lunch at Puerto Calero, take some bread and feed the fish in the marina if you have children, they will be fascinated.
When looking for a good deal on changing your sterling the local duty free shops usually have the best rate. Don't scrimp on car hire though. Best deals are the safest as the cars are regularly maintained and fully insured, try Cabrera Medina. Always carry passport or photo card when driving and remember that drink driving laws apply here as at home. The supermarket on the corner is ideal for all your daily requirements and is not too expensive, beware some other shops, try to steer clear of your favourite English brands as they are particularly expensive at the moment. Remember that as this is a duty free island, customs regulations apply. 200 cigarettes and 1 litre of drink. Restaurants are a matter of taste and there are certainly lots to choose from. If you are watching the pennies all restaurants should serve a dish of the day with a starter and a pudding at a special price although these are easier to find in the little Spanish restaurants rather than the big flash ones. Try the back streets for local cuisine for a change.
