All our cottages are just a few minutes walk from the stunning coast path and some lovely remote beaches and coves, whilst the wilderness of Dartmoor is only a short drive away. The wonderful Erme estuary and Mothecombe beach, with over 130 acres of sand at low tide, is just a couple of miles away.

Why not visit out of season and cosy down by a roaring log fire, or come and see the lambs in spring? We are open all year and offer a Friday or Monday changeover day – so come for a week or a short break at any time of year!
We put fresh local organic milk in each cottage for guests on arrival. Carswell is also the birthplace of the Well Hung Meat Company so our visitors can taste award winning local organic lamb and beef.
All the cottages are extremely well equipped with digital widescreen TVs, DVDs, washing machines, dishwashers etc and all have private gardens with patio table and BBQ. Children of all ages are very welcome and we provide toys, games and books to make them feel at home. Please don't hesitate to email or call us if you have any queries and I hope we can welcome you to Carswell Farm and this special part of Devon soon.
The Sayers Family have lived and farmed in the area for generations, with Geoff's father buying Carswell Farm in the 1950s. The family farm was expanded in the 1960s with the purchase of Lambside Farm and Caulston Farm. So the whole farm now stretches for nearly 3 miles along the coast and the mild climate means that our cows enjoy fresh sea air and lush green grass all year round!
Katherine Harding purchased this cottage in 1949
We have lived here all our lives and still love it! The farm is set in an Area of Outstanding National Beauty and is also right on the South West Coast Path. The nearby beaches and coves are beautiful, peaceful and full of exploration potential! Even in high summer ou can often get the beaches to yourselves...
Get away from it all and relax. But as soon as you feel the energy there is loads to do within half an hour by car and that is even without the most beautiful walks and fabulous beaches. There are also at least half a dozen very good eateries (mostly pubs) within the same half hour. We have only been back home 3 days and are already thinking about how and when we can get back to Carswell Farm Cottages.
The cottage (semi) was nicely laid out in a rural area. We weren't right on the cow farm as expected, but the owner offers a trip to see the cows being milked (which we didn't take up as we've done that before).
The facilities all work and make for a comfortable stay. Katherine was available and very friendly.
We did the coastal walk with the woofer and had trips to Mothercombe and to Salcombe.
Best meal out was at the Ship at Noss Mayo.
We stayed for 4 nights and had a fantastic break. The weather wasn't great but there is so much to do in the area that it didn't matter. Coming back from a blustery walk on the coast path to a cottage with a woodburner is lovely! We ate out a couple of times and cooked in the well-appointed kitchen the other nights. We would love to come back and explore the area again.
We arrived at Shepherd's cottage after a horrendous drive from London (due to Glastonbury traffic/road works). Upon arrival all the stresses of the journey melted away - the cottage is welcoming, beautifully furnished and decorated and absolutely spotless. The setting is gorgeous and upon waking in the morning you are greeted by the most wonderful views.
As the weather was sublime we took advantage of the lovely garden (sun loungers and barbeque are provided). If you wish to dine at the house, the kitchen is extremely well equipped and a large fridge/freezer means you can stock up on the excellent local produce.
Katherine and her team are incredibly helpful and go the extra mile to ensure your stay is comfortable and memorable. We can't wait for our next stay at Carswell.
All our cottages are just a few minutes walk from the coast path and there are lots of nearby coves and beaches, including our local beach, Wadham, which is only accessible by foot!
The wonderful Erme estuary and Mothecombe beach, with over 130 acres of sand at low tide, is just a couple of miles away. Or why not visit nearby Bigbury-on-Sea, with the wonderful Burgh Island, cut off at high tide and made famous by Agatha Christie!
Plymouth is 12 miles away and has a mainline station.
Exeter airport is about a 50 minute drive away.
We are situated in a remote situation, so a car is essential to get around.
The twin villages of Noss Mayo and Newton Ferrers, nestled across a picturesque creek, are just over 2 miles away, while Holbeton village is about 3 miles away. Both have lovely welcoming pubs and a local shop. Explore the nearby picturesque towns of Kingsbridge, Dartmouth and Salcombe or visit the historic port of Plymouth - just 12 miles away.
Riverford Organic Farm shop is at Yealmpton - just 4 miles away, and the lovely little town of Modbury (famous for being the first plastic carrier bag free town in England!) is about 4 miles away and has a fantastic selection of small independant shops - including a butchers, deli, hardware shop, antique shops and places to relax and have a coffee!
