What makes this chateau / country house unique

There is a small double bedroom downstairs with a shower room a few steps away. This bedroom is ideal for those who find stairs difficult. The Huge kitchen dining room 33' x 15' with seating for 24 makes Hafod Grove an excellent venue for celebrations and family holidays and weekend breaks. The beautiful location and large private gardens makes Hafod Grove exceptionally appealing especially the wonderful variety of mature trees. Pretty Ceibwr Bay is within easy walking distance of around a mile from the House with a riverside footpath providing a delightful alternative route to the sea. The sea views from the gardens and upper floors are a lovely bonus especially in winter when there are no leaves obscuring the view. The House has rather a grand staircase and window and having a servant's staircase too is very convenient. The open fireplaces are wonderfully homely during the winter months and the cosy Aga makes the kitchen a mecca for guests.

Notes on accommodation: Hafod Grove is centuries old, the kitchen has such thick walls and was the original farmhouse area more or less. Greatly enlarged in the Georgian style Gentleman's Residence either during in late 18th or early 19th century. It was then 'modernised' in more or less it's current form by the Colby family who owned much of the land in the area, Colby Gardens South of the County are open to the public. Ideal for holidays, long weekends and celebrations and large group get togethers (catering is available). Dignified hen & stag parties are welcome. Hafod Grove enjoys a wonderful setting; walk to pretty Ceibwr Bay. Lots of local activities and sports or relax in the garden and soak up the ethos of this lovely old place. Children love playing hide and seek in the rambling grounds and mysterious house. By the way there are servants' stairs so don't forget to bring your butler! Free wifi, Central heating, Linen, Free Sky+ HD TV in Hafod Grove House. Well behaved dogs are welcome. Outside: Hafod Grove House has over 1 acres of garden, including woodland, shrubs and mainly lawn it is a delight for children and adults with swings and trampoline and a patio barbeque area accessed via one of the reception rooms or the garden. Hafod Villa has almost an acre of garden that which is private from the larger house due to a 2m high fence and high hedge. Mainly lawn the children enjoy the swings and trampoline and it is fairly level so ideal for ball games. Although not totally dog proof (it's too big!) the garden is enclosed and is safe for children because the it is tucked away behind a small woodland, some 80m from the very quiet lane it is a very safe play area. There is ample off road parking, both houses have separate drives and parking. Utility Room: Washing machine. Iron and ironing board. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels are optional extras, Hafod Grove is cleaned between guests, if you stay for 2 weeks then you still have a mid-stay clean and change of linen. If you require extra cleaning or laundry please enquire. Other: The halls are exceptionally wide and the landing is often used as a play stage by children

very comfortable and interesting

  • 4 of 5

The accommodation was warm, clean and comfortable, with plenty of bathrooms for a large group and good cooking and eating facilities. All equipment was of a high standard and worked well. Because we were out in the daytime over the weekend, we did not use the patio, garden and outdoor areas. The property was well maintained and the owner was most helpful before the visit, with contact by phone and email, to make sure all went well. It is an excellent base for a large group holiday and great for photography. We visited Ceibwr Bay and Poppit Sands, Nevern Church, St Dogmael's Abbey, the Welsh Wildlife Centre, Cenarth Falls, Cardigan, Aberaeron and Newquay - all good places for photography and interesting historically, but there were far more places to see if we had stayed longer. We ate at the Ferry Inn, St Dogmael's and across the estuary at the Gwbert Hotel, both very good food and pleasant atmosphere. It would be a great place for an extended family holiday too, as there is plenty for children to do in the area.

Wonderful house and location! Wonderful holiday!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay in 6 months! We had a large group stay for a long weekend and the house was perfect for all our needs. There was enough room for all 26 of us including dog! All beds were comfortable including the trundles and sofa beds and kitchen and living room accommodated us all easily including the big roast dinner we cooked!

The location of the house was perfect - we all enjoyed walks to the beach from the house and sat around the open fire in the evenings in the lounges.

Josy the host was also very helpful and always quick to respond.

Thank you for a wonderful stay and we hope to come back again soon!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for this fantastic review, and it was great to have you all to stay at Hafod Grove again. You seemed to have had an excellent time again, also finding plenty to do given the time of year. You certainly seem to make the most of the aga and the range cooker which is nice to know! It makes all the hard work worthwhile when people have a really good time and I shall pass your comments onto Mel and Lauren our new Housekeepers. Many Thanks again and see you in the not too distant future. Best Wishes, Josy

A lovely, large & comfortable old house

  • 4 of 5

This is a great choice of accommodation for a large group such as ours. Six families with 14 children aged between 4-15.

This is our tenth year doing this, we enjoy going somewhere different every time.

Hafod Grove ticked lots of boxes for us, it's a great size and comfortable - everyone enjoyed a decent night's sleep after busy days exploring the gorgeous beaches.

The kitchen is perfect for large group get togethers.

Everywhere was clean and the house soon warmed up with a boost of the heating.

It is an old house and is tired in many parts, but this is part of the beauty of staying in properties such as this. It gives you a real sense of history.

Fabulous house for a large get-together

  • 5 of 5

We had a great Christmas family reunion, plenty of room for kids to run around indoors when weather less favourable! The kitchen was very well equipped and the house warm and comfortable. Plenty of bathrooms, all clean and well maintained with sufficient hot water for such a large number. Beautiful walks close and a nice garden for kids. The information provided was accurate and the owner very accessible and helpful, farm next door if any problems were to arise, ( we had none!)

Owner's Response: Hi Kerry, We're very glad that you all had a good Christmas week at Hafod Grove House. Thank you for this excellent review and I must add Ann and her team and the plumber was very pleased to hear that all was clean and tidy and that you had plenty of hot water. No one ever mentions Dave the Aga who does a great job refitting and installing our bathrooms and maintaining the Aga and plumbing. You seem to have found plenty to do during your stay and hopefully we shall welcome you all again at a later date. Best Wishes and Thanks again, Josy Josy

An early Christmas

  • 5 of 5

We were a large group of friends inc. children and dogs getting together to celebrate an early christmas. The house was lovely and spacious with a very well equipped huge kitchen which is the heart of the house. I was impressed with the large oven [accommodating our large turkey ]and large fridge/freezer with ice dispenser and also a further fridge and freezer ideal to store all the alcohol.I read other reviewers had commented on the lack of cloths, toilet rolls and hand wash and can say all these things were provided in abundance. Josy and anne had also put up a Christmas tree and fairy lights and with the real fire we lit it all added up to create a perfect atmosphere for our celebrations. The beds and bedding were very comfortable particularly the pillows. All in all a very enjoyable stay with prompt ,helpful and friendly communications from both Josy and A nne . I would definitely stay again and would recommend to friends. We all had a wonderful time.

Amazing hen weekend spent at Ravensprings

  • 5 of 5

We visited Ravensprings for a Hen Do for 17 girls. Josy (owner) and Caroline (housekeeping) were so helpful prior. All information was provided clearly up front and we were even allowed in early to set up! The house itself is massive, full of classic charm, with all amenities and such a variety of different rooms to accommodate everyone. The house is clean and the beds are comfy, there are a zillion bathrooms and enough fridges for plenty of food and prosecco. The location is really easy to get to and there is loads of on and off street parking! I think we had a total of 5/6 cars between us. A Taxi for 8 is only £35 one way to Leeds which was great for getting everyone there for a fun filled night out. Overall the weekend was perfect, the bride to be had an incredible time and everything ran really smoothly. Thank you to Josy and Caroline for making it a weekend never to forget!
