About the property

Villa in S'Albufera, Es Grau Menorca, Balearic Islands - In The Peaceful & Enchanting S’Albufera Nature Reserve

Our private villa is set in the rural countryside of Menorca with beautiful panoramic views of S’Albufera Natural Parc. The gardens are secluded and blend beautifully with their surroundings of wild olive trees and other indigenous plants. The private pool is approx 5x10 and has ample sunbathing space. The rear terrace is perfect for catching a gentle breeze when the temperatures soar in the height of the season or for finding a quiet spot. The villa is built on a single level, making it ideal for people who have difficulty with stairs, with traditional marble floors and vaulted ceilings, to keep it cool in summer. The spacious kitchen/diner offers an excellent range of equipment for the keen cook. If you are looking for a restful holiday with peace and quiet or a bit of bird watching this is the perfect villa for you. Take a look at our website the link is next to the contact sheet.

About Anna Taylor

Our father built the villa over 40 years ago, designing it as a family holiday home. He wanted a home from home to relax and switch off from his busy business life. We would spend the whole summer at the villa, family members would come and stay, and friends would rent other villas on S’Albufera. Every year our parents would hold a big fancy dress party for friends, family and our Menorcan friends from Es Grau. The villa has now been passed down to us, the next generation and we cherish the responsibility of taking care of our beautiful family villa. We have renovated the villa and its grounds in 2008. We continue to develop what is already a creative space, our intention being to improve our much loved retreat for enjoying all the seasons and opening up opportunities for the winter.

Anna Taylor purchased this villa in 1970

Why Anna Taylor chose Minorca (Menorca)

S’Albufera is a designated area of natural beauty. We work with the environmental organisations of Menorca and the bird watching community to maintain the beautiful and peaceful landscapes you see around you today. There are walks and nature trails to enjoy.

The lake is clean and serene, supporting many rare birds and wildlife. In the winter osprey and booted eagles migrate to the lake, the spring and autumn sees home to waders and wildfowl. Other species often seen are herons, and you may spot tortoise, toads and snakes. My mother saw Flamingo one year and my brother a golden eagle!

What makes this villa unique

Our villa is virtually all on one level, which makes it much easier when you've had too much Rioja to negotiate your way back to bed and if your 92 year old grandmother is on holiday with you she will appreciate the lack of steps & stairs, as ours always did! Really special attractions of staying at our villa for me are the views, both from the back looking out to the farmland and the front over S’Albufera Natural Parc where we will often see various birds of prey. It is tranquil & peaceful but not always quiet because the wild life can be surprisingly noisy at times, my sister particularly loves the frog chorus in spring & autumn.

My family stayed in this villa over the summer and had a brilliant holiday. The villa was exactly what we were looking for - great location and very private. The children spent most of the days in the lovely clean pool. We would love to stay in the villa again.

Other than the shelter next to the kitchen there is no shade next to the pool and with little children we needed to be right next to the pool- some parasols would be great.

Fantastic holiday.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your review. We appreciate all your feedback and are glad that you enjoyed staying at our villa. We are in the midst of designing and building pergolas next to the pool. We are very excited about this new addition, which will bring some much needed shade around the pool.

A wonderful week

  • 5 of 5

The week in October had beautiful weather and we were able to swim in the lovely pool. We did very little in the way of sightseeing but enjoyed the peace and quiet of S'Albufera Parc. The villa was so tranquil, secluded and comfortable that we didn't feel the need to leave it! Looking forward to next year.

A low wind in Menorca

  • 5 of 5

Menorca may surprise you. If you're looking for a wild time with clubs and nightlife, you're going to be disappointed. If however you seek a quiet week or two in some of the most beautiful surroundings on Earth, in the company of tortoises, martens, lizards and the occasional hovering bird of prey, you won't be. Gemmana is located in the biosfera of Menorca, an unspoilt wildlife reserve. It's relatively secluded and you'll probably need to hire a car but they're not expensive and you may prefer to walk anyway. The villa has its own well-maintained pool, an open fire, unusual architecture (though uniform with others nearby) including turret from which you can see for miles, selection of reading ranging from esoterica to beach fiction and plenty of space for 6+ adults. Can be a bit windy - you get that with spectacular views - but I like that too. I'd be there all the time if I could.

Peaceful and beautiful

  • 5 of 5

We had such a wonderfully relaxing and restorative time at this beautiful villa. It is so peaceful and has wonderful views - we even saw some eagles!

The rooms were clean and tidy and the kitchen was well equipped. The pool was clean and the garden was delightful.

We would definitely go again!

Fabulous S’Albufera

  • 5 of 5

Thanks for a lovely holiday it was just as you described. What a peaceful place S’Albufera is for a spring break. The villa is fabulous, I love watching the swallows swooping over the pool in the early morning and the views across S'Albufera Natural Park are breath taking.

If you can tear yourself away from the villa I highly recommend hiring a car and visiting Es Grau beach, Fornells on the north side of the island, the fish market in Mahon and a stroll along Mahon harbour, one of the deepest natural harbours in the world.
