A beautiful traditional villa situated in the S'Albufera Natural Park near Es Grau. The villa opens on to a terrace with a private pool and has stunning views over the lake and countryside to the sea. It is a quiet location and is not overlooked at all - ideal for a peaceful holiday yet it is only a 15 minute drive to Mahon. The area is designated of biological importance due to the abundant bird life and the wild flowers in the Spring are spectacular. We have a list of bird sightings for those interested!

Very comfortable, clean, villa in excellent location
Very quiet, private, villa with 20 metre pool and easy access by car to Es Grau with its lagoon, beaches, shops and restaurants. The whole island is small enough to visit other locations by car easily, including archaeological sites and beautiful bays with sandy beaches and there are further small coves with beaches accessible by footpath all round the coast. Short and long-distance walks available everywhere, and several marshy areas good for birdwatching.
Lovely peacuful property in superb surroundings
We were three couples staying at the property. Everyone thought the place was lovely and very peaceful. The views of the surrounding area from the roof terrace were fabulous, especially as we had lovely sunshine for the week. Some even braved the pool, as long as you kept to the top layer it was fine, especially in the April sunshine. We were predominantly birdwatching on the island. A good deal of it could be carried out from the rooftop terrace, wher Booted Eagles and Red Kites flew over regularly. A pair of turtle doves regularly flew around looking for nesting material. A Hoopee was heard regularly but never seen. Tirant Marhes produced Marsh Harriers, Black Winged Stilt and Whiskered Tern. Cala Galdana and Algendar Gorge produced Egyptian Vultures, Red Kites, a Lesser Kestrel, Spotted Flycatcher, and our first sighting of a Hoopee. The North Son Saura wetland near Son Parc beach produced the Purple Swamp Hen, Marsh Harrier, Peregrine, Squacco Herons, Red Crested Pochard, another Hoopee and two early Bee-Eaters near Son Parc beach. Torre Fornells produced the Blue Rock Thrush and a great sighting of a Tawny Pipit, which was a first for us.
As far as eating out Tapas Can Avelino in Mahon is an excellent place. The staff are extremely friendly and the prices are very good. We had six rounds of Tapas for six plus pudding plus drinks for 110 Euros. You will need to book in advance as it is very popular. The beach cafe at Es Grau is also a lovely place for a lunchtime meal or coffee, great food at low prices. All in all a very peacuful holiday in a lovely villa.
Thank you Clive. It sounds like you were one of our more active guests and you have certainly put down a marker for the bird watchers!
Secluded but convenient
We would recommend this house highly. It is situated in a secluded position within Parque Natural de’s Alberfura des Grau with a lovely sitting room overlooking the surrounding area. At the same time, it is about ten minutes from supermarkets and other facilities in Mahon and close to the airport. It has a large swimming pool in front of the south facing house. Also it is within easy reach of the fine beaches at Arenal d’en Castell, Cala en Porter and our favourite, if you like something wild and completely unspoilt, at Sa Mesquida. We visited at the end of October and the weather was perfect - mid 20 with a fresh breeze.
Comfortable villa in a scenic location
Comfortable well-appointed villa in the Albufera Nature Reserve. We liked being in the nature reserve (great for birdwatchers) yet close to Mao city, airport and the coast. Es Grau is a delightful old fishing village and the local bar is very friendly and serves good seafood.
Very good villa
Very good position and well equipped.sky TV would benefit from a larger TV.
Great villa and location
Very nice villa! Lovely location. We would love to come back! Andrew was very helpful when needed
Coast/Beach: The nearest beach is at Es Grau. Last time we timed it in the car it took just under 5 minutes. People do walk it (3km) but you do have to walk along the road. The beach at Es Grau is grey sand in a wide bay. It is very level and perfect for youngsters. There are various pedallo, windsurfer and canoe-type water craft for hire. The beach is big so rarely feels crowded. There is a pretty local-owned bar/cafe and lots of parking. Restaurants and shops are in the village. Travel: Mahon Airport is 15-20 minutes drive. It is a good idea to hire a car. Not absolutely essential if you want the simple life but handy to go in to Mahon or visit other beaches or historical sights. Easiest is to hire from the multitude of companies at the airport. Distances: Es Grau 3km. Mahon 7km. Aiport 12km. Google map ref for our villa is 39.937135,4.249027 Further Details: When to go? Menorca enjoys a long warm summer from May to October. From November to March the Island cools down but temperatures never hit freezing and there can be sun-bathing opportunities on sunny days! The wild spring flowers are spectacular March-May and there is a greater variety of bird life on the lake. April and May are great months to visit if you intend to undertake some longer walks before the midday sun gets too powerful. Most restaurants open at Easter and there are more direct flight options from the UK in May. October and early November are also good - we always used to spend the autumn half term in Menorca. The temperatures are usually good and the sea (and villa pool) are still warm. We usually close up the villa in November and open it up again in March but we are open to negotiation for winter rentals. We had an author guest who stayed in the villa to write a book on one occasion. They became friends with a Pine Marten family...
