About the property

Villa in Bagnone, Tuscany, Italy - Set in the Rolling Hills, Overlooking the Medieval Village of Bagnone, Bordered by Mountain Stream

Perched above the medieval village of Bagnone, our villa is set in the hills about half an hour from the coast. It's perfectly placed for a peaceful holiday whether that's sun, sea and sand, culture and incredible scenery, skiing or just getting away from it all. An hour from 3 different airports it's easily and cheaply accessible. The villa was originally a fairly grand land owner's house and retains a sense of seclusion and independence. Surrounded by a large area of private land, steep terraces overlook the mountain stream and natural pond at bottom of the garden. However, it's only a 10 min stroll down to the town square for easy access to the local shops, bars and restaurants. Portofino, Pisa and the romantic walled city of Lucca are around an hour away. Nearer still are 3 ski resorts, the 5 cliff top fishing villages of Cinque Terre, Portovenere and a host of picturesque medieval villages amongst the rolling hills of North Tuscany. Florence is easily reached for a day trip.

About Simon

Simon, Tom and Jamie bought the villa several years ago and spent 4 years restoring it to its former glory. Three friends from university, we bought what was then a shell of a villa that had been uninhabited for 15 years as a holiday home and have been renting it out for about 3 years. We had a lot of fun restoring the villa and continue to use it regularly. We hope you enjoy staying there as much as we do!

Simon purchased this villa in 2003

Why Simon chose Bagnone

We looked at over 40 properties all over Italy before deciding on this area and this property. The combination of easy access to 3 local airports, to the coast, mountains and skiing, and to amazing places like Florence, Lucca, Cinque Terre and Pisa is what makes it such a great location. Throw in the privacy of the villa being located on its own land on a hill above the town, yet only 5 minutes walk to the shops, bars and restaurants and it's even better. On top of that there is the amazing scenery surrounding the villa, a 3000 square metre garden bordered by a mountain stream and great local Italian food. It was an easy choice for us.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"Discovering Bagnone's secrets was one of the best parts of our stay. The villa has played host to some epic ping pong and table football tournaments, as well as many a sing song. It also provided an excellent base from which to explore other cool places like Cinque Terre, "The Green Valley", Fiascherino & Florence. We felt right at home in this beautiful villa!"

Kath, Tom and friends

"Bagnone is a great place. Loved strolling into the village for bread in the morning and cycling in the mountains. The villa is a real find with lots to keep all of us amused - especially our teenagers."

The Fletts

"Had a great stay. The house is fantastic! A real home from home! Sad to be leaving after only one week, but are already planning on coming back."

Geoff, Molly & Ian

"We have had a great two weeks in the villa. We will miss waking up to the lovely green hills and the sound of running water from the stream in the garden."
