Welcome to our holiday home on the beautiful and historic Isle of Skye. This 2 storey house has electric central heating and is doubled glazed throughout. It provides the ideal base for touring or just cozying up and watching the ever changing vistas. The house has an open south facing aspect with views from all the windows. There is an open plan living area downstairs and the upper hall sitting area has a large picture window. There are 2 en-suite double bedrooms and the 3rd double bedroom is adjacent to bathroom with over bath shower. The garage has washing and drying facilities. A patio door leads out from the dining area to a decked area. The garden faces south, adjacent to natural croft land and off-road parking. Portree and its natural harbour is within walking distance and has an excellent range of facilities. Cultural attractions are plentiful and sports enthusiasts are well catered for with walking, climbing, cycling, boat trips.

Why Margaret Burr chose Isle of Skye

Achachork has always been a favourite part of Skye for us with its panoramic views and being within walking distance of Portree, the main village on Skye. When this site came up we decided to go ahead and build a house taking into account the wonderful views across Portree to the Cuillin Hills beyond. We are very lucky to have a lovely house built to our own specification with everything we need in a holiday home and wonderful views to enjoy from every window.

What makes this house unique

The views from the house towards the Cuillin Hills are spectacular and the house is warm, comfortable and has all the mod cons required for a relaxing stay. As a base the location is perfect for day trips throughout the island being so near Portree. There is nothing better than to sit on an evening with 'refreshments' and watch the setting sun turn it's magic on the landscape, no matter which season there is always something different to view.

Just a quick note to say how much we enjoyed our all too brief stay at Arus. You have a fabulous house in a wonderful location and it’s really well appointed. It makes a great base from which to tour and a welcoming home to come back to when you've finished the tourist bit.

Your house is brilliant - we loved it. We go away every Easter and have stayed in lots of houses, but yours was certainly the most luxurious. It's so well equipped! Weather reasonable and we were able to see the magnificent views from your house. We did lots of exploring and two of our party went to Harris to do a mountain bike ride. Passmore - April 2009.

The house is approximately one mile (20 minutes walk) from Portree harbour and bay. Further afield there are plenty of small beaches (both sandy and shingle) to be found on the Island.


Use of car recommended and essential for touring the island. Nearest airport is Inverness (2-2½ hours by car). Regular flights south and car hire available. Also Glasgow Airport is an alternative. Nearest train station is Kyle of Lochalsh which is approximately 45 minutes by car.


Nearest town is Portree, the main town on Skye which is 20 minutes walking distance from house, or approx 3-4 minutes by car to centre. Nearest facilities, shops, supermarkets, restaurants, cash point and nightlife in Portree.

Kyleakin and the Skye Bridge are approx 45 mins by car.

Uig ferry to the Outer Isles approx 30 mins by car.

Sligachan and access to the Cuillin Hills approx 20 mins by car.

Dunvegan Castle is approx 30 mins by car.

Armadale ferry is approx 1 hr 15 mins.

Notes on accommodation: Full electric total control central heating and double glazed throughout. We are sorry but the house at present is not fitted out for toddlers/young children. The garden is fenced. We are sorry to stipulate no pets. Changeover day is Friday to Friday for 7 nights. Outside: Large open south facing garden area adjacent to natural croft land. Outside decked area and garden chairs and BBQ in garage. There is also an outside rotary clothes line. Utility Room: Leading from the kitchen the garage has a washing machine, freezer and ample drying facilities and shelving. Walking boots and outdoor gear can be stored here. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Rates include wifi access, towels, linen, electricity and central heating. The property is cleaned and checked weekly on a Friday. Other: Entrance vestibule with large built-in cupboard with coat hooks, radiator and shoe rack. Full length mirror on opposite wall.

Arus is an incredible property in a wonderful location.

The house has amazing views over the Cullins. The 3 double bedrooms are a great size and also have amazing views. The house very comfortable and is very well equipped. The very minor problem we had in the week was sorted very quickly and easily.

We had a lovely week here and would highly recommend Arus to anyone visiting Skye.

Beautiful house and views

The picture of the outside of the house does not do it justice - it is much more attractive, The quality of the fittings was great. There was more than enough crockery, cutlery etc for the house.

When we were there, we could not see how to play DVDs - I think the tv had been changed. For us, we cared not one jot, but some folks might.

Beware when looking for location - if you plug in the post code to google maps, it looks as if the house is on a cul-de-sac, close to other houses. It is not. It is on a private road, distant form other houses with unspoiled views (at 57.430N, 6.189W).

Wonderful holiday in a fabulous home

Just had the most wonderful experience in skye in the most stunning home.

The house is perfect, I cannot fault it, a truly stunning outlook over the cuilin - with a view that given the weather- is always eye catching and ever changing. What you expect from a holiday in Skye, Peace and quiet- apart from the cuckoo which was a lovely soundtrack to our stay.

Close enough to Portree but with the country feel. (A nice walk into Portree- downhill-took us over 20 minutes but easily got a taxi back after a lovely evening in the pubs of Portree)

I enjoyed evenings staying in, spent relaxing on the couches watching the sunset... an unexpected benefit is the second public area upstairs - a dedicated space to listen to music and read provides a separate area to truly relax. I liked listening to cuilin fm, a local radio station with traditional music and interesting chat.

If you are dining out it is worth reserving in advance as Portree is very busy and you're not always guaranteed a table if you haven't booked.

Although we cooked at home a lot- having spent most days busy exploring the island. I enjoyed going to the co-op (the larger of the two)- a busy spot where there is lots of Scottish produce and everything you could need. I also found there was always a bit of banter in the shop from both locals and tourists alike.

The kitchen is well stocked and a joy to cook in- the open plan makes it possible to remain part of the home, with wonderful views from every window.

The standard to which the home has been decorated makes it clean and fresh. With every modern appliance.

The house is situated on a quiet lane where it is lovely to walk, but also close to the main road with a bus stop just 5 minutes walk from the house.

We'll definitely be back. Thank you margaret.
