The gorgeous village of Yesiluzumlu is located in western Turkey, an exceptionally safe holiday destination.
Yukari Ev is a traditionally built stone villa situated in a peaceful rural setting on a hillside above the village of Uzumlu and surrounded by wonderful mountain views. The villa sits on its own and is an ideal retreat for those who want to 'get away from it all' and relax. There are two air-conditioned bedrooms, each with their own en-suite bathrooms – perfect for 2 couples, or a family of four. Uzumlu is a quiet little village, located in a valley surrounded by mountains, which has not altered all that much over the past few hundred years. The people are very friendly. Don’t be surprised if you encounter flocks of sheep or goats grazing in the nearby fields, or obstructing the narrow lanes from time to time. Uzumlu is famous for its wine and lace making – with many of the local women operating shops where they make and sell beautiful scarves, table cloths and other linen products. It is a 10 minute walk from the villa to the village square.
We live in Dorset with two cats and four hens; our sons are grown up and have flown the nest. Eoin runs a small PR and corporate publishing company in Salisbury and Lynne works for an NHS Trust in Poole. We first holidayed in Turkey in 2005 and fell in love. It is the most fascinating country with friendly people, wonderful history and of course, the super weather.
Lynne Chellingworth purchased this villa in 2008
We looked for land for ages and were about to give up when we were told about a piece of land in Uzumlu. We viewed in the half light and fell in love on the final evening of our third search trip. This was it!
Eoin designed the house and a local architect drew up the plans for our builder and now house manager, Bulent. It was a wonderful experience from start to finish and we are so pleased with it. Its outstanding views, privacy, tranquil setting and proximity to Uzumlu and Fethiye make this a wonderful place for a relaxing holiday.
We deliberately designed the house to be used by two couples or a small family of four. It's easy to find a large villa that sleeps 8 or 10 or 12 in Uzumlu and the surrounding area but we wanted a more intimate experience for our family and our guests.
The setting is stunning with the mountain views and the surrounding garden.
We had a great time relaxing, enjoying the pool and the wonderful views so much so that we spent most of the two weeks at the house venturing out in the evenings to sample the local restaurants. We did go to the 'pastry man's' restaurant in the village a couple of times and the food was great. We also went to the three restaurants along the main road and again the food was delicious. We did not have a bad experience eating out.
We have always chosen villa holidays and I have to say that we have not made a bad choice yet.
Your house is right at the top of the tree.
The transfers went smoothly even though we were delayed coming out and we really appreciated Bulent being there when we arrived even though it was the early hours. The people we met, the car hire chap, Bulent, Ibrahim and his wife are all lovely people and very helpful.
All in all a fantastic time was had by us, thank you once again.
Yukari Ev is an absolutely stunning villa set on a hillside overlooking the friendly villa of Uzumlu. Not only have the owners created a beautiful villa in a traditional style, they have really thought about everything that their guests would need to make their stay a special one. Although it only sleeps four, the villa is very spacious and comfortable. The master bedroom, with its small balcony overlooking the garden and views across the hills, is most impressive. As a couple who takes regular holidays in cottages, villas, gites etc, we were also very impressed with how well equipped the kitchen was. The terrace, gardens and pool are beautifully designed and well maintained.
The village of Uzumlu is within walking distance and has several small shops as well as some excellent restaurants. Guests should be aware that the journey back up to the villa involves a steep walk, but then the villa's location is what sets it apart from others - the walk is worth it for those views and sunsets!
If you like a villa that is secluded yet near amenities and beaches, then we would highly recommend Yukari Ev. The owners are very helpful and provide a wealth of information to help you take advantage of what this wonderul part of Turkey offers.
One of the best holidays we have ever had!
The villa is set against a hill side at the back of Uzumlu village. Sufficiently remote from other accommodation but close enough to the village centre to make it walkable to the village restaurants and cafes within 15 minutes. That said, it is accessed via a private drive which is steep and rugged in places but please do not let that put you off but it could be challenging for the less mobile person. Fetyhie with its abundant bars, cafes and restaurants is a 20-30 minute drive away although the village is serviced by the dolmus bus. The villa is simply stunning and has uninterrupted views from its advantages position down across the village and out to the plateau below and mountains beyond. It is very well equipped with all modern conveniences including dishwasher, washing machine, showers, air con, open fire, internet, private pool, outside shower and toilet etc. etc.
The property and contents are very well maintained and the local agent is available should you have any questions or requests but otherwise the only person you will see is the man that comes to clean the pool. So if tranquillity, relative isolation and a relaxing escape are what you are seeking then I can not recommend this property highly enough and would not hesitate a return visit. A car is not essential as airport transfer can be arranged by the owner and as stated the village does cater for most needs but if you wish to explore a little further afield then a car is needed and the owner can also arrange this for all or part of your stay.
The beach at Calis is located about 20 minutes away and the famous beach at Olu Deniz is easily reached by car in about 45 minutes or by the dolmus from Fethiye. A range of water sports and activities are available.
The 20 km long beach at Patara is about 1 hour's drive.
The nearest airport is Dalaman – a one-hour drive from the villa. Between April and October, regular flights operate direct from London, Bournemouth, Birmingham, Exeter, Glasgow, Manchester, Bristol, and Newcastle, as well as from airports throughout the European Union. Airlines offering direct flights to Dalaman include Easy Jet, Thomson, Monarch, First Choice, and Thomas Cook. British Airways and Turkish Airlines fly daily to Istanbul with connecting flights to Dalaman.
Uzumlu is a traditional Turkish village where the people are warm and friendly. The village has a butcher and several mini-markets, an excellent barber and you can relax and enjoy the local hospitality in the small restaurants and cafes located in and around the centre of the village. The nearest town is Fethiye, which is about 25 minutes away by car. This bustling town has lots of shops, supermarkets, banks, restaurants and bars. There's a lively market on Tuesdays and Fridays. The fish market (which is open 7 days a week) is well worth a visit. Here can buy your fish (or meat) and the restaurants surrounding the market will cook it for you – a delicious treat, not to be missed.
Down on the promenade you can gaze out over the harbour, with the mountains in the background, and enjoy a drink or meal at one of the many restaurants dotted along the waterfront. From here you can also join a gulet cruise, charter your own boat or go diving in the turquoise Mediterranean. Fethiye is also the place to experience an exhilarating Turkish bath – there's one in the Ece Saray hotel, and another in the old town – this is also highly recommended. The nearest beach from the villa is at Calis, about 20 minutes away. And the famous beach at Olu Deniz is about 45 minutes away. Sailing, paragliding, scuba diving and white water rafting are all available in the local area, and can be arrange through our agent. For history buffs, ancient ruins from the Lycian period can be seen at Cadianda, Letoon, Xanthos, Sidyma, and in the Kaya Valley.
