Wonderful for families, friends or couples with a host of original features

Our popular cottage provides a comfortable base to explore the local area and was recently awarded 4 star (Gold) by Quality in Tourism. Shaftesbury is renowned for its stunning location. Barbers Cottage provides a central location to stay at. Internal exposed stonework and beams couple with a home from home. We have just had fibre optic broadband installed as well!

A large living space has two sofas, TV, DVD, iPod dock, CD player and a gas wood burning stove - cool in the summer and cosy warm in winter months. A large 6-seater dining room with limed, solid oak furniture is adjacent to a fully-equipped kitchen and both lead onto a terrace with garden tables and chairs. Through the gate, steps lead you to the lawn and mature garden.

Upstairs the large master bedroom has a king size bed and ceiling beams (an extra person can be accommodated here). The twin bedroom leads from a large landing - the bathroom is separate from the toilet.

The furniture has been chosen to be as sustainable as possible - FSC wood or vintage. Delicious sheets and towels add to a luxurious stay

What you could do in a week.....: - browse the boutiques, cafes, antique and craft shops

- buy fresh bread and cakes at Indulgence

- have a lunch at the Grosvenor's restaurant or go for a sandwich in the salt cellar at the top of gold hill

- walk on the downs and admire the magnificent views

- have a swim in the outdoor pool in town (in summer)

- pick up some delicious goodies at Turnbulls delis

- watch the sun set from the Mitre pub back deck

- walk down (rather than up) Gold Hill, from the Hovis Ads

or visit castles, safaris parks, English houses and gardens, the jurrassic coast, stonehenge, farms or go for a swim

or just relax in our comfortable cottage drinking tea and eating gorgeous cake that can we can have waiting for you by request.

and we have WIFI!

Worth a trip: Shaftesbury boasts lots of independent shops from delis to cake shops to cafes. Try the chutneys at Turrnbulls or the morning croissants at Indulgence the Bakers. The Mitre pub in town has a back deck with views down the Blackmore Vale, a great early evening spot in the summer. There are many walks straight from town which can take you to the heart of the countryside and the Cambourne Chase.

Tea on Arrival?

Let us know in advance and we can have tea and cakes ready for you on arrival. Or the local deli can provide a hamper of food for you (please contact us in advance for details).

Our House / Young Kids?: The garden was created by a keen gardener and there is a top lawn which in spring and summer is bursting in colour and plants. The terrace which can be accessed by the back door or fence windows is a great place to relax or have a BBQ. A gate to the steps and the rest of the garden means toddlers can play without you worrying about them walking up the steps.

Other things for Kids

There are games and books for children to use. The house is equipped with a high chair, cot, blender, microwave and other things that parents with babies and toddlers may need. the local area has hundreds of things for children to do from longleaf Safari Park to Old Castles - it would be difficult to get bored even in the rain.

We left in such a hurry this morning to get to school in Blandford we clean forgot to write in your book! What I'd like to have said is that despite not being on holiday exactly we had a lovely relaxing time in your cosy, comfortable cottage. You'd thought of everything and the beds were exceptionally comfortable which was such a bonus.

Thank you so much. I hope it's a success for you, it certainly deserves to be. In fact had you not been booked this month we would happily have taken it for a further couple of weeks.

Wonderful Village Location

Cottage was well equipped with plenty of room. Beautifully equipped kitchen with most everything you need to prepare meals. Shaftesbury is a great little town with plenty of shopping and the people are quite friendly. We were happy to see a Catholic church a few doors down for us to attend Sunday mass!

Comfy, warm, delightful.

We stayed in Barbers cottage over Easter, grandma, Grandad J J and 2 teenage grandsons. We had a wonderful break. The weather wasn't wonderful, but that didn't bother us. The cottage was really cosy and comfortable, very well equipped and ideally situated for the town (though a little noisy from revellers on the Friday night). I had no problems with the booking etc. Everything is just as stated. The bed is very comfortable. Thank you. Would certainly recommend.

Amazing home in amazing location in amazing town!

The property is exactly what photos show, better indeed. It is in perfect location in the center of the town, and the town is perfect for explore the sourrounding areas, like Stonehenge.

All of rooms are spacious, elegants and confortables. It is very well equiped with all what we need. The master bedroom is amazing, as the master bathroom is (with abundant hot water and luxurious towels)

The garden is magic, unexpected.

It was easy to find were leave the car near the house.

Sally was a perfect and kind host, I do not hesitate to recommend this property or return if we visite UK again in the future. Thanks for this beautiful home, Sally.

Coming home to Barbers Cottage

I have had the privilege of staying in Barbers Cottage 3x (total of 13 weeks) since 2011. My 4th stay begins 18 October. I look forward to returning to my home-away-from-home in Shaftesbury. I know that it will be clean and well appointed as usual. The owner is accommodating and provides the best of customer service with any reasonable requests. The cottage is classy and unbeatable combination. Parking is not an issue as I do not need a car during my visits from the US. I know my future stays will offer the same experience and I never hesitate recommending Barbers Cottage.

Good if you don't have a car!

I'll start with the niggles and then end on a good note and there are equal measures of each! On the Owners Direct site one of the facilities listed was parking, with my elderly father this was important, when we arrived there was no parking at all, we had to leave the car two streets away, so be warned there is no parking. The cottage is located opposite a grotty launderette and a grotty old takeaway, not that the owners can control this to be fair! However, once inside it was furnished to a very high standard and beautifully clean. Friday and Saturday nights saw their share of drunken door knockers which was unfortunate.

There was a constant dripping from the bathroom tap. There were broken shower controls which made it difficult but not impossible to shower! Towels were lovely as was bedding.

The shower also suddenly goes cold without warning too which is especially thrilling!

Bathroom door doesn't close without v loud slam

Microwave dial faulty - if you like quick porridge in the morning not too helpful.

Sporadic Wifi no good for streaming anything but would get by with emails.

Well appointed kitchen and bathroom otherwise with good quality items.

Comfy beds, very nice and luxurious.

Nice Fire kicked out plenty of heat once it got going.

Good amenities

Garden lovely

Excellent supply of books and also of toys if you have kids and good places to eat.

Have stayed in nicer places for the money but all round a good stay, owner very polite and dealt with the parking situation as well as she could.

Owner's Response: As soon as we read this we were really concerned as we aim to provide a high standard of accommodation and were not aware of the tap / shower problems until the guests left. As soon as we were informed of the problems; in terms of the tap, this was replaced, we have a new microwave and the shower is fixed (the thread had gone on the switch). We were really glad they also bought it to our attention that the Owners Direct site had stated we had parking so we have contacted Owners Direct (our home and away advert is fine) and asked them to remove this - they have apologised as it was an error on their side. The wifi we have brought up with the suppliers - they are looking into it. If you do stay with us please do let us know if if you have any niggles as we are happy to get them fixed during your stay so that you can enjoy your well deserved break. We do really want our guests to relax in comfort during their stay.

The house has a cot / high chair for babies. The Daily Telegraph voted Shaftesbury the best town to live in due to its wonderful location, fresh air and mild climate. The town is bursting with history but has the added benefit of having interesting shops and cafes and a bustling market. There is lots to do if you are looking for a romantic break, a walking holiday or a family destination. the house caters for couples, families and friends. It is a 40 minute drive to Dorsets oustanding beaches and the choice of sandy or fossil hunting. Stonehenge - Longleat Safari Park - Stourhead - castles - walking - dorset jurassic coast.
