Mulino di San Loreto is a stone built mill lovingly restored using local traditional materials, set in a beautiful wooded valley with swimming pool surrounded by stunning gardens, sun loungers, sun umbrellas and pool towels provided. Two covered patios for outside dining one with barbecue.

It has a beautiful open plan farmhouse kitchen fully equipped with table and chairs, opening into spacious comfortable lounge with two sofas, fireplace, tv, stereo, with a separate dining room. About Ford-Cross

Gill and Mel endeavour to make your stay with them as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Both have previous experience in the hospitality business. They like to give guests plenty of privacy, but are available to answer any questions and give local information on the area.

Ford-Cross purchased this farmhouse in 2002

Why Ford-Cross chose Lucca Area

When we first saw the Mill, we immediately fell in love with it. It was a disused paper Mill in a very sad state of repair. We saw the Mill's potential, to make it into a beautiful home and holiday accommodation. We spent a lot of time on the drawing board deciding how it would best work and then proceeded to get all the Italian permissions. The work started the following year. We had a very good local geometra, who kept in regular contact with us in the UK. We spent the next 2 years flying backwards and forwards overseeing as much as possible. We eventually got the home we dreamed off.

The location is perfect for holidaymakers, having all the main Tuscan attractions not too far away. In the winter months you can enjoy the ski resort Abetone, or relax at the local spa...

What makes this farmhouse unique

The benefits that guests enjoy are all the modern comforts of the Mill, being able to eat alfresco on a beautiful warm summers evening and enjoying a barbecue. Also being able to sunbath and cool off in the pool on long hot sunny days, with different areas to sit and enjoy the countryside. In the winter months, after a day exploring, or skiing, you can come back and enjoy a roaring log fire with a glass of vino. Also we have many good restaurants nearby, the beautiful spa town of Bagni di Lucca, lots of hilltop villages to explore. The local train station is within walking distance to the Mill, giving access to Lucca, Florence, Pisa and Viarregio. Again these places are not too far to visit by car. The local people in the area are very friendly and more than helpful to the tourists.

Guestbook comments from the owner

A place of paradise in Tuscany. The accommodation is 5 star with incredible attention to detail. The owners Gill & Mel are incredibly welcoming. We highly recommend their "Mill House" as a home from home. It has been wonderful to return here after an exhausting day of sightseeing. Alison, Terry & Sue South Africa

We have been travelling around Italy for the last 10yrs and stayed in some wonderful places. The Mill house is the most stunning-you've thought of everything. A luxurious home from home. Thank you so much for your warm hospitality & friendliness. Lerici and Portevenere was spectacular. We loved Tilly too! Andrea & David UK 2012

Wonderfully Appointed Mill House

  • 5 of 5

A spacious and very comfortable house, beautifully appointed and maintained to a very high standard by the charming owners. Mel and his delightful dog Tilly made us very welcome. Gil was away in England during our visit. Even though our flight was delayed so we arrived at 1.00 am, Mel warmly greeted us and had provided a very welcome and well chosen food parcel. We spent the two week holiday visiting the easily accessible sights of Lucca, Pisa, Florence and the coast. The pool and beautifully kept garden provided the perfect opportunity for relaxation with Mel discreetly on-hand should advice be required. Ideal for families of all ages. Highly recommended.

A very special place to stay...

  • 5 of 5

Mulino di San Loreto is a gorgeous property and a very special place to stay. We didn’t have the greatest of journeys on leaving the airport but all of that was forgotten as soon as we arrived. Gill & Mel the owners were so welcoming & had prepared a fantastic meal for us. We were there to celebrate my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary & Gill & Mel also provided a beautiful meal during our stay.

If you like a exquisitely decorated, comfortable surroundings; a tranquil atmosphere and beautiful scenery; picturesque walks; gorgeous little villages with excellent eateries; on hand, warm, friendly, yet unobtrusive owners with great local knowledge & fantastic catering & entertaining skills (not to mention their wonderful dog, Tilly!), then The Mill is definitely the place for you.

Pisa airport is 45 minutes away. Car hire is not essential but is recommended to get the most from your stay. The local train and bus services are excellent and also very economical, very reliable and only a 10 minute walk from the Mill.

Distances:

The famous walled medieval city of Lucca is a 15 minute drive away, Florence with all its attractions only 1 hour and Pisa just 45 minutes.

Further Details:

On driving to the mill you will pass the famous medieval Ponte della Maddelena (the devils bridge) dating back to the 10th century. Lucca is a famous medieval town sitting inside its own defensive walls which are still in tact, there is a Roman amphitheatre which has been changed into a lovely famous piazza, Cathedral, churches, shops, restaurants, bars and a market 15 mins away.

We are 5 minutes from Bagni Di Lucca well known for its medieveil spas which are still used for relaxing skin treatments.
