Manor House in Cry-sur-Armancon, Yonne, Burgundy - 18th Century Manor House With Pool

This idyllic 18th Century French Manor House (sleeps 6 -18+) and separate Gate House (sleeps 2-4) is set in its own 24 acre park bordered by the wooded banks of the river Armancon. Both houses are the perfect place for a holiday in France with family and friends, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere and offering much to enjoy on site as well as in the surrounding area. La Maison du Chateau has a heated swimming pool, all weather tennis court, walled garden, avenue, barbecue, table tennis, private fishing and a rowing boat on the river which runs through the park. We have a wonderful cook and helpful maids/babysitters who live in the adjoining village. La Maison du Chateau is the ideal venue for family holidays as well as painting, wine, bridge, cooking, historical/cultural tours, music, Pilates, walking and other activity holidays some of which we host ourselves; others can be hosted independently making use of the lovely surroundings and the invaluable support of our cook and staff.

Details for La Maison du Chateau (Sleeps 17) 9 Bedrooms, Sleeps 18, 7 Bathrooms

The Main House sleeps 18 people comfortably in 9 double/twin bedrooms all with their own bathrooms. Two of these bedrooms are in the adjacent barn above the stables. Here we have created a large studio cum music room as well as the two double/twin en-suite bedrooms. The studio room has tall French windows looking westwards over the pool and park with an elegant balcony and stone staircase leading down to the pool. It has a grand piano, large central table and simple sofas and chairs; and it is possible to sleep extra guests/children here but only by arrangement.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Once again our friends, boys and we had a very relaxing week. The children adored wandering in the grounds and everyone - naturally - adored Delphine's marvellous cooking." Van Steenis

"The house and grounds are beautiful and the accommodation seemed specially made for our large family with the gatehouse and barn to spread ourselves in. What made the whole stay even more memorable was the excellent organisation by Delphine and the two maids.Delphine is a superb cook!" Foster

Special interest holidays:

La Maison du Chateau has proved to be a perfect venue for painting holidays. Our aim is to give you a wonderful painting holiday with excellent tuition in this enchanting manor house set in its own idyllic park.

Wine Week (to be confirmed): Our resident tutor and guide for the week is a Master of Wine with a special knowledge of the wines and growers of Burgundy. The theme of the week will be small, intimate visits to some of the very best producers of both well known and less familiar wines.

Travel:

Our local town, Montbard, is only 15 minutes drive from La Maison du Chateau and offers direct TGV links to London (4 hrs) and Paris (1 hr). It takes about 5 hours to drive from Calais. British Airways run flights to Lyon (2.30 hrs drive from Cry) and budget flights are also available with Easyjet from Luton to Geneva (3hrs drive from Cry) and with Ryanair from Stansted to Lyon.

Distances:

The house sits on the edge of a sleepy, pretty village. Raviere is a 5min drive away and you can bicycle to it along the canal tow path. Raviere has a small supermarket and other shops like a bakery, pharmacy, etc.

Montbard is 15min by car and is a large town, where the local train station is - the TGV (fast train) stops there and is just 1hour from Paris. Montbard has everything you would expect from a large town.

Further Details:

The local baker (Nuits - less than 2 miles away) travels around the local villages in the morning with his van full of bread and delicious patisseries/croissant/pain au chocolat. He delivers the bread early to the house so it is ready for you at breakfast.

There are number of good restaurants in bicycling distance or just 10mins by car. They are traditional home cooking restaurants with delicious food. Many guests in the Manor House choose to eat out at one of these on Delphine, our cooks, night off.

Notes:
Notes on accommodation: We have a lovely cook whose services are included in the peak season rental. We strongly recommend her for all other weeks. She is exceptionally good and the service is excellent value for a really relaxing carefree holiday. On arrival the rooms will be ready with beds made up, clean towels and fresh flowers according to season. Outside: This charming manor house and park nestles on the edge of the quiet village of Cry-sur-Armancon. The heated pool is set in a sun trap on the terrace close to the house. It is all now enclosed, to protect small children, with a clematis covered fence. There is a hot shower and changing space by the pool and a large open covered area with a fridge and barbecue where you can sit and eat. There are plenty of deck chairs, sun-beds and teak garden furniture. It really is a paradise for both adults and children. We also have a new hard tennis court onsite.
