About Anna Ward and John Willer
Anna Ward and John Willer both have long links with Yorkshire. Anna was born in Hull and John has run marathons over pretty much all of it. We keep up our connection by spending some time every year here at Minster View in York. We really enjoy strolling round the city, we get to go to the cinema on the river on a near daily basis and we top up our marmite supplies. (If you're puzzled by the last point it's because we live in Granada in Spain the rest of the year.) For us, spending time between Granada and York is pretty much perfect - and we know how lucky we are...

Why Anna Ward and John Willer chose York
What we love about Minster View is pretty much summed up in the name! We have views of York Minster from all of the rooms at the back of the house, which is lovely. I particularly like looking at the Minster when doing the washing up. (Don't worry - we also have a dishwasher.)
What makes this House unique
York is a great city for strolling, with everything easily accessible within a few minutes walk. And because we are right in the centre we can pop out, have a look around, and then nip back for a cup of tea….. Perfect.

Comfortable, elegant townhouse, brilliant location
From the moment we arrived we knew we were in for a wonderful stay. The house had everything we needed, with caring, helpful touches like office supplies in the desk, shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom, cooking foil, olive oil and vinegar in the kitchen. A really interesting selection of books, films and music in the living room, for when we needed to catch our breath with a cup of tea or coffee in between sampling the delights of York. The view of the Minster over the city walls at the back of the house was a constant delight. Beds were very comfortable, there was always plenty of hot water and we felt very pampered.
Our car was safe in secure parking nearby, and there were so many delights within a really short walk. We had a wonderful time in York, with street markets, museums, churches, Jorvik viking centre and the York Dungeon and really enjoyed just walking around the picturesque streets and visiting the number of small, independent shops. York is small enough to feel you can walk everywhere in the centre, has a very friendly atmosphere and is busy without seeming unpleasantly crowded. We were impressed with the range of independent stores - the big names are there if you want them, but there are lots of fascinating smaller shops with a much more interesting range of goods.
The house is really well organised; spacious and attractive. The owners have obviously put a lot of care into it, so guests feel very cherished. With five adults we never felt crowded: we have stayed in places where it's a bit of a squeeze to all sit at the dinner table or relax on the sofas, but at Minster View, everything feels spacious and comfortable. We thoroughly recommend it and look forward to another visit when we have the chance. Thank you very much.
Well, thank you for your kind words, Helena and family. It's always gratifying to hear not only that guests have enjoyed their stay, but also that they can appreciate the care we have tried to exercise in making a visit to York something of a home-from-home experience. We'd like to take the credit for everything that York is and offers, but that would be unfair; we do however consider ourselves privileged that Minster View is part of it.
Please do come and stay again!
Great location! Walked everywhere. Had everything we needed inside
Charming Flat Conveniently Located
Our family of four adults thoroughly enjoyed our week at Minster View. The Minster can be seen from all the rooms on the back side of the flat and is most beautiful at night when it is lit up. When the bells ring it feels like Christmas morning!!
The flat includes all amenities that a traveler would need- stove/oven, microwave, washer/dryer, dishwasher, full sets of dining and cooking utensils, great shower and comfortable beds. The wifi was very good and easy to set up.
The front bedroom can be a little loud at night since it is next to a busy road but most nights I was so exhausted from sightseeing that it was no bother at all.
One thing to keep in mind is that this is a four story unit. The entrance is on the first floor, kitchen and living on second, bath and two beds on third, and another large bedroom on fourth floor. It was no issue with my family but those with smaller children or those that cannot navigate many stairs may find that helpful to know in advance.
Overall our stay at Minster View was wonderful and the next time we are in York on holiday we will stay there.
Thank you for your lovely review. I agree that Minster View isn't suitable for anyone with limited mobility. I've add some more notes to the property details to make it clear. Please do come again - we always feel York grows on you the more you come.... Regards Anna
Lovely place to stay
Minster View is a lovely place to stay as we visited with our son at university. The location was superb for all of our travels about the city and connections with friends there. We found the space clean and ready for upon arrival. Our family enjoyed cooking and baking in the kitchen. We loved hearing the sounds of the city and seeing people walk on the streets and wall. The owners and manager had excellent communication, and our son was easily able to get the keys for our arrival. We cannot wait to return!
What a lovely review. Thank you very much and we're really pleased to hear that you had a great time. Anna
Great flat, nice & warm & clean. York is a wonderful city.
Great flat but the location was incredibly noisy. It is constant - sirens, horns, vehicles, people! Appreciate there’s nothing you can do about it but it really spoilt it for us. That and the dodgy memory foam mattresses! Sorry! Some brighter bulbs would really improve the lighting as it was quite dingy. The flat itself was nice & clean, warm & well equipped but I’m afraid we wouldn’t stay again.
Very central location
Warm, clean and beautifully furnished. Comfy beds and a good shower. Very central location. A minutes walk from the Minster and lovely to hear the bells at the back of the apartment. Several excellent restaurants and cafes nearby.
Only downside was the overnight traffic noise in front double bedroom. Disturbed sleep even with earplugs. I am a light sleeper and for this reason only would not return.
From York to Scarborough (a lively seaside town with attractive double bay and castle) is 40 miles (and takes about an hour by car). It is also accessible by bus and train. There are plenty of other appealing seaside destinations within reach, for a day trip including Flamborough Head, Robin Hood's Bay and Whitby.
The nearest airports are:
East Midlands airport (96 miles or 2hrs by car).
Leeds/Bradford airport (31 miles or 1hr by car).
Manchester airport (82 miles or 1hr 45m by car).
The airports are also accessible by bus and train. A car is not necessary for exploring York. Everything is nearby and accessible on foot. A car is useful, although not vital, for further afield sights such as the Yorkshire Dales or the coast.
York is ideally placed as a base to explore the beauty and tranquillity of Harrogate and the Yorkshire Dales (about a 2 hour drive) and the North York Moors National Park (approx 1.5 hours drive).
Local shops such as the supermarket, chemist and a wide selection of cafes, pubs and restaurants are all available within a few yards of Minster View. The majority of the sights of York are available within a 5 - 20 minute walk.
